The last time you filmed a view of the hot pass from the inside of the pipe, it looked like someone might have had to do some crawling to get to the weld! Very nice work! I would love to have seen the cover stacks. What I like, and what I will point out to my students, is how you are holding the toes of the weld; pausing to let the puddle fill out and getting complete penetration. No rushing, just instinct and patience! I like the finishing touch - where you show the beautiful forest scene and people can look at it and say: "What a beautiful place to work! Makes the weld look better"

That's nice to be welding among the Aspens! I'll bet it's probably just a little cooler than welding among the coconut trees in Hawaii!?! Man there were days in August/September when it felt like the top of your leg was being attacked by a sweaty bullfrog inside of your boxers, LOL! Long time since I've come around and I hope you're well. I'm starting to make some machining videos, come on by if you get a chance, Aloha...KTFs.

They are probably using 6010 for all the passes. Some guys use 6010 for the route and then 7018 for the rest of the passes. With 7018 you can only go uphill. 6010 goes downhill

+chopperdan88 Uhhh, that's how we always did it. What's the code where you're welding?
@4570Govt9 жыл бұрын
+Knolltop Farms I thought it was interesting simply because so many of his videos show downhill-only procedures (in the past). Code here in Los Angeles is dependent on the job at hand, but being capable of both makes sure the work is steady and keeps coming in ;-). Amazes me how so many "pipe" guys can't do uphill for shit, much less combo weld for refinery/shutdown work, harharhar
@KnolltopFarms9 жыл бұрын
Have you ever done any "Brother" welding in boilers? That was some hard friggen work, especially since I always got the skinny side since I was...skinny. It was gravy $, but the foreskin at that company was a dickhead. An ex HA who turned born-again and was a tank welder who had zero concept of quality or relative safety. I'm no safety-nazi, but I do expect people to know better than to drop a mini sledge 40 feet into a manhole with guys working below...It was too bad his son was such a nice kid or I'd have done the guy in ;)
@4570Govt9 жыл бұрын
Knolltop Farms Naw, I'm 27 and still in welding school, haha. Done some temp work on various jobs, but have a big thing for "learning everything" both technically book-wise, as well as hands-on. Sometimes that's been what's done me in, being "too safe" in some folks opinions. I disagreed with them, especially since it usually ended up in my welds being accepted by the inspectors, where as the "just need to get it done asap" guys had to grind/gouge more of theirs out ;-) I've had lots of folks tell me "go union". Thing is, I'm not one of these band-of-brothers kinda fellas. I'm more of a free range, road-travelin kinda guy, even though I've grown up(and still live in) Los Angeles. Itching for an opportunity to move out of this pit of despair, but the opp has to be good enough, I'm done working half-assed for people who don't give a f*** about quality, all in the name of "getting it done as fast as possible". Sorry, for me quality comes first. I hear ya about the whole dropping-a-hammer-down-a-manhole thing, I left my last job because of some things relating to that kind of attitude from up high.
@KnolltopFarms9 жыл бұрын
Good for you bro, I'm fixing to pull a Rodney Dangerfield and go "Back to School" to learn machining. I love welding, and I'll always be able to find work, but I'm in the opposite position as you ATM. I traveled for work all over the Pacific as a fitter-welder after growing up in Hawaii. I welded in refineries, tank farms, power plants, and even a couple of snack factories all over Polynesia and Micronesia, living out of 6 Rubbermaid tubs for 20 years. Now I've moved to "the Mainland" up here East of Stockton in the Gold Country, living in my own house for the 1st time. After hotels, motels, and renting rooms ever since highschool in '88 it feels awesome to have a 5 acre farm to chill out on and I want to have a job shop in my garage. I've already got two lathes, a drill press, my own welding gear, and all the hand tools I need. Now I just want some more education, a milling machine, and lots of shop time to strengthen my portfolio while I live off the land and care for my Pops. He's 86 and after losing my Mom two years ago, it's just him and me against the world. After being the best Dad a boy could ever want, being here for him is the least I can do. Especially with the free reign to build my own business on our farm, it's hard to say who's caring for who? LOL! Keep in touch and let me know if you ever get work up in the Bay Area(I hear Titan is all about top quality and made in the USA...) Nice chance to chat with someone not a troll, hehe...Aloha, KTFs

Nice video. The oil & gas companies sure are getting to like low hydrogen fill & cap. Personally I don't see anything wrong with the 7010 & 8010 they worked just fine for a lot of years, but so far they haven't asked my opinion. I'm happy you folks seem to have plenty of work up there, I hope it stays that way. I 'm not smart enough to figure out why our current administration has a problem with the Keystone XL. Thanks for the video. Doug
