I can spend literal hours researching something and learning more about it than most people will ever need to know simply because I forgot to do something like plug it in or something, and then you just sit there for about 2 minutes just questioning reality and existence because you could have sworn plugging it in was the first thing you did

That would only happen if I actually called customer service, but I avoid making calls as much as possible and prefer to look things up to solve myself. Instead, I will make such mistakes in private... then because nobody witnessed it, it didn't happen. Which I'll likely forget after a while, until I totally didn't do it again later (depending on what it was).

This typecasting of INTJs as detail-deficient I find odd and incongruent. In reviewing videos galore, I note the plot narrative perpetuates the idea that despite the admirable leadership qualities, high moral standards, altruism in labouring to fix faulty, incompetent systems for the benefit of fellow humans, not focused on the INTJ's self, not on petty personal advancement, the scripter makes the climax a reduction of the INTJ type into a CLOWN, the prototypical wearer of the Giant Clown Shoes of the Gods. When a human walks through life cursed with wearing GCShoes, the fist of the Divine comes down from the clouds, pounds the big-footed Clown who cannot run to escape, those gigantic GCShoes of the Gods not allowing marathon spurts of sprinting escape. Instead like the popular child's toy of the 1950s, the INTJ, pinioned to the spot, rocks back and forth, bobbing to the ground, front and back, with each punch, an object of laughter for the onlookers. Certainly I have made mistakes in life, comparable to this insignificant blooper. To illustrate, a senior aunt in 2005 complained about her watch's irregular time keeping, a retirement watch given in 1975. I looked it over, set and wound it, got it going after a few shakes, but it soon stopped. Told her I would take it for a cleaning --- after all we are talking 30 year of deferred maintenance, dust, metal debris, dried oil I guessed. Jeweller surprises me by his interest in the origin of this Automatic SELF-WINDING watch. News to me, also to my 82-year old aunt whose level of reduced activity would not WIND it enough to last 2 days in a row and certainly gave zero continuity of power when she set it aside at night, when it ticked itself to depletion. How was I to know it was A SELF-WINDING watch when she, the owner, did not? Did I feel shame and 'escape' my seeming humiliation, like the sheepish INTJ in this and other skits? No. I smiled at the sweet simplicity of the solution to the problem --- know the type of watch is step #1, and next wondered how to tell my aunt without embarrassing her over her blunder, augmented by the years of her frustration and lost use of an engraved item she cherished. Polished up on tact and diplomacy and the art of the 'white lie' on the way to see her. Returning to my point in this personal anecdote, I deduce from immersion in the wealth of lectures on personality type, there is a pattern of 'Gotcha!' going on with the INTJ, a foreseeable finale that leverages the perennial Tall Poppy INTJ to match the height of carpeting ground-cover White Alysium, similarly that drags with snapping claws, the heroic, freedom-seeking trapped crab on the very rim-edge verge of escape, back into the low-sided Crab Pot, to be boiled for dinner with the rest of the do-badder crustaceans, each determined the energetic escapee will share in their doomed fate they do nothing to avoid. Given my renown INTJ 'deficiency in recognizing feeling in others and self ' (riiiiight...like obliviously breezing past awkward embarrassment to my 'forgetful' aunt; riiiiight...like feeling amused by the missing watch-make info, and by the missing plugin to the wall socket...2-alarm sarcasm alert, low on my shrieking 5-alarm siren), shame and humiliation at missing detail simply has no place in my emotional repertoire. To experience HUMBLING by such inevitable slip ups does not damage in the least. Why? Like most INTJs, and I do presume their mindset here, have not polled any, I tell myself constantly: Being God is easy. Being human is very hard. As a human, you will err. Learn to find the humour in the bump, the mess, the mix-up. DO NOT BEAT YOURSELF UP. There will be plenty of vile unclean spirits eager to do that in your stead. Before this "let's expose the INTJ's Achilles Heel" pattern becomes too inset, before psychology fans grow too dismissive and complacent, too satisfied in strapping Giant Clown Shoes of the Gods on the high achiever, altruistic, reticent, self-actualized INTJ in order to bring that person down a notch... or two... or five... or fifty, in order to feel comfortable themselves, I would redirect all to what is the actual "flaw", if you must have one, of the INTJ: finality of compassion. Asking for help and advice, you will be told: If you do this and this, this will be the outcome. Is that what you want? Off you go to do exactly what will bring the result unwanted and warned about. Back you come, in a worse pickle, seeking advice. With a mild tone of irritation, INTJ counsels: To avoid complete disaster, your options are to do this and this and this. Off you go, and carry on doing exactly as shown NOT to do the FIRST time. Returning for more help, in a clear state of weeping panic, your appeal is met by coldness, by withdrawal of interest, by a WALL. That FINALITY of COMPASSION is given expression circa 95CE in Revelation 22:11. It is the Universal Shoulder Shrug, a micro expression of "Once I deeply cared, now I no longer care". Compassion burn out is the negative trait of THE INTJ. Videos and lectures citing the intuitive way of knowing things and the visionary power of seeing ahead to unfold the future make INTJs careless with details that inevitably trip them up makes a diametric contradiction, is a weakness of otherwise accurate portrayal. It needs to be brought to psychology-fans attention the astrally-projected seer of Revelation gets all the minute details right down to the Guillotine of the violent Age of Revolution, to the fuselage marking on the airplanes of WWI and II, the Armagammadion, the war of the four gamma letters. Yet she knew these and hundreds of precise DETAILS 1805 years in advance of unfolded human activity, prescient history. She got them, you do not, and for that reason, the uninitiated carry on as if those DETAILS do not matter, the whole finale of a book does not matter. It is not the INTJ who skips details. It is the whole of civilization, which then PROJECTS its fatal flaw back on a useful target. QUESTIONS?

it reminds me of a time in high school. In IT class, I was given the chance to go explore on the computer by myself for a while ahead of everyone else because I'd took advantage of the substitute lesson the day before to complete the homework early. I remember feeling smug sat at the computer, but soon I'd been sat there a good 5-10 minutes and it wasn't switching on. Checked the plugs and wires were all connected, nothing. A friend then came over concerned and turned it on for me. I brushed off that I was waiting for her, but in truth I'd been pushing the reset button next to the on/off button the entire time.

As an INTP, yes, this is accurate. 👏 I actually spend an entire day analyzing whether I need to call customer care the next day. I weigh the pros and cons of the conversation, and I slowly build up my anxiety the previous day. Update: So I have a printer which isn't working so I tried contacting customer support to see what I can do about it. Meaning I texted their live chat support agent. Unsurprisingly, they were unhelpful. Now I'm gearing up to gather my energy to call the service center so I can gather up more energy to give the printer to the company to fix on Saturday... Update 2: The printer has been gathering dust in the corner of my room... I was going to give it for service but I had to talk to three different people about it... The warranty's also expired... I'll probably give the printer to a private servicing center... Soon...

ISTP heard "broken" and teleported right in front of that door Not even joking, if there's an ISTP nearby - whether you're living with them, they're a neighbor, a friend or simply overheard the conversation - mention the magical words "broken", "doesn't work", "needs fixing" or even a variation of "sounds strange" and there's a 99,99% chance ✨the thing✨ will be dealt with (almost) immediately. Not proud of, but the INTJ skit was painfully accurate. I have now shameful flashbacks... 😶 Some time ago I bought a rice cooker and I was very happy with it, great device. I was using it to cook different dishes, just loved the thing. But then I had few months pause and the inner bowl / pot got damaged. I bought used broken one to replace the bowl, recplaced it and found out that my rice cooker doesn't work! It was plugged in, but I couldn't set any mode, neither cooking nor heating. I looked up when I bought it, it still was less than 2 years ago, so I contacted the seller about warranty and they immediately created and attached return ticket for me. As I started to pack the rice cooker... I noticed it had on / off button. It was just standing that side with the button to the wall... I plugged it back in, turned the cooker on - and it worked! 🙈🙈🙈 Such a shame... For a while I considered sending them the broken one I just bought, but it wouldn't be ethical, so I didn't. Instead I wrote them message that the pick up guy isn't needed anymore, I figured it out. Such a shame! How could I forget the on / off button... 😅🙈

INTP 1 and 2 are spot on. Although I also very much relate to the opening ESTJ scene albeit less feisty. If I'm forced to have to actually call then I'll have tried everything under the sun first to avoid making the call. Add on to that wanting to give them all relevant information to help them make a better decision, and my tendency to be overly precise and accurate, and it gets to be kind of like a long lab report. Here's A-J what I've done and exactly what the results of each step were.

The INTP in a customer service position is a bit far fetched scenario, but being the involuntary troubleshooter for all your collegues just feels the same.
