You can see the pain in his eyes. He is basically a good kid who can't catch a break. Family circumstances become habits. The way he holds his cup reminds me of a child holding a cup. Hang in there Tyler. I've been raped as well at 17. 58 now and well off. Things can turn around. I hope you find someone to trust as I did.

There are many of us in the US who want to be parents but we cant be because our society would rather let kids enter thevsystem, stay in the system and or end up on the street than allow a single gay man who would make a great dad adopt. Ive thought about surrogacy but cant afford it however I would do whatever it takes to be a good dad. Unlike all those deadbeat parents who throw away their children like garbage. I am sad for this kid. Id adopt the kid but it would be impossible and in the end who knows where he ended up.

I was homeless in London for a couple of years, and I came to understand the various types of people that end up sleeping rough & living a bizarre kind of lifestyle -- which, strangely, I almost look back on with nostalgia & fondness. There are those dependent on substances, and those who stay clean of everything. Those who have people they could turn to but can't bring themselves to do it (out of shame), and those that haven't got a soul in the world to ask for help. Those who are lucid in their minds, and those with mental problem / learning deficiencies. Those that would give you their last crumb having just met you, and those that would take everything from you having known you a while. And sadly, there are those who want help to extract themselves from a dire situation, and those that really don't -- because they're happy in the lifestyle. This kid seems like the type that is dependent on substances, and isn't yet ready to leave the streets, even if help to do so was offered to him. Sad, as he clearly has a lot of qualities, and could easily carve out a productive life for himself. Living on the street has a lot of traps; a sense of freedom and a lightness of load once you get into the swing of how to survive. The sense of shame & ego also breaks down pretty quickly. If you know, you know. I hope this kid gets to where he needs to be, mentally, to accept help and do the work that needs to be done to successfully reintegrate into society. It's difficult, but not impossible.

So true - people who have never experienced it don’t realise that the streets and lifestyle is as addictive as the drugs themselves. You don’t know how to behave in normal society anymore, you don’t fit in. There are so many layers to running the streets and it’s different for each person. It’s so complex based on what has them out there in the first place.

Thank you for giving people a glimpse of what it is. It's brutal and very unkind. I was only homeless for 1 month before I turned my life around when I was 19; I'm lucky to have my old world as a fall back, most of these kids don't. This kid truly are one of the saddest cases, cause they're so trapped, I often think about the ones who didn't made it out on my drug abusing days; some died, some went to prison, a couple lucky of us went on to have a better life. Idk how to truly help them when they're in that position, his eyes and face is still so bleak, I couldn't see the fight in him either yet. I hope someone can help him and let him know he's better than his trauma, and the pain on the streets are additional pain we put on ourselves when we're victims of violence. You articulated all the faces of addiction on your comment, and I appreciate this alot. Tha k you.
@shannonmckay173
@shannonmckay173 Жыл бұрын
You said alot right there. The only thing I'll disagree with is that if offered help you not thinking he would accept it. I don't know that that is necessarily true. When I was out there I wanted out so bad. I prayed and played that God would send someone to help me and eventually when the opportunity came I took it. It was all God because honestly I felt so helpless and trapped. I hope the same happens for him. I hope God sends someone to his life that cares enough to offer help and I hope it comes at the right time like it did for me. My life is totally different now I look back on those times and like you said even though part of it was a nightmare, parts of it do hold some nostalgia. Living out of a backpack and wandering with no responsibilities. Only focusing on survival. I wouldn't trade my life now for anything and I am beyond grateful to God for his grace in my life but there was a certain feeling of freedom in living that way.

@@tednguyen7258 That's just the point. People who have nobody who cares for them also have nobody to live for - besides themselves. In a way, that's also freeing. It means that nobody will be distraught for years or decades if you elect to risk living fast but dying young over playing it save and dying in a hospital bed after years of infirmary. Seeing and feeling yourself age out of your physical prime is already an uncomfortable and disheartening feeling when you're in your 30s. Imagine the horror of having to look forward to 50+ years of that in the future - only progressively worse... But that dread gets overshadowed by our species' need to belong, to be able to depend on others and to be dependable in turn.

The reason the boy was fidgeting was because he was in withdrawals. Withdrawls are are HELL on earth. I heard a woman say she had rather have a baby natural birth rather than go through withdraws. The reason the interviewer was asking rapid fire questions (the boy was not getting any information), was to access him as well as possiblle to determine any motivation on the boys part for help. Or, he could have possiblely been wanting to interface him with a service since he's so young. I'm a retired counselor and I would have done the same. The boy needed to be carried for a bath and clean clothes, to say the lesat. The interviewer, or possibly a volinteer could then help more to find him a fixed, secure place to stay but, i also believe drug intervention will also have to be addressed. VERY SAD PEOPLE. As a professional counselor for the state, I learned that you cannot help people refuse to be helped, whatever the reason. Kids like this boy, however, needs to be able to be under court jurisdiction as a child in need of supervision. He would have no court record but he would have restraints in place to help his cooperate with helping agencies...at least for a time.

He prob never heard that face to face.

This boy breaks my heart. As someone who lived on the streets in deep addiction for 3 years and clawed my way out, I doubt he ever will. One of the (or biggest) reason I was able to turn my life around is because I didn’t grow up in this lifestyle. I didn’t have the best childhood but I had parents, a stable home and was never around drugs. If you’ve never known anything but this F’d up lifestyle….it’s impossible to look into the future and see yourself any different. Treatment centers can get you clean and help you transition literally every step of the way but once you’re on your own…that’s got to be scary. Children who grow up in chaos, living with drug addicted parents, generations of nothing but this - this is normal. Imagine being an infant who went home to this. A child develops the most critical skills in life before the age of 5. Going home to a drug home as a newborn is tragic at best. An addict doesn’t want to take care of an infant, that’s just a massive inconvenience. Anyone who is a parent knows how demanding babies are and even we got stressed out some days. This boy was one of those babies who started his life the same day he was given his future. Please don’t say how negative my comment is and I should wish the best for him….I am a mother to 3 children and I have 2 boys close to his age. I am one of the most compassionate humans around….I am also from the lifestyle and have seen it all. I was a heroin and cocaine addict, I used both at the same time but it’s NOTHING close to “blues”. If we thought drugs have been bad for a long time…in the last 3~4 years it’s become an absolute F’ing nightmare. I own a business now, live in a nice neighborhood of 70 homes (so pretty small) and don’t have drug addicted friends…except my friend Elizabeth who was an OB nurse. Zibby helped deliver my daughter almost 16 years ago. She was a kick ass single Mom with 2 beautiful children and from the day I met her I was envious because he was doing what I wanted to do in life but I screwed that up with past addiction and a felony. Zibby died last year, she was found in a bathroom at a fast food place. My friends across the street a stay at home Mom and a county sheriff…who my kids grew up with and we all hung out together and had Birthday parties at out little neighborhood park Dad….we check on him periodically to make sure he is still around but he’s addicted to Blues…oh and blues here are $25-30 each. I would love to see Tyler get clean and healthy. He actually doesn't seem far gone. He is 100% willing to get clean and change. And I know him being assaulted is the one reason he stays on drugs. Prayers Tyler 🙏🏾

People think "homeless people" are a group... "Homeless people" don't exist... What exists is the poor, the disenfranchised, the immigrants, the criminals, the ex-cons, the mentally disturbed, the junkie beggars, etc. ALL having no place they can afford for their respective reasons. And kids like Tyler have to survive in the midst of that. And don'tget me started on NGOs, Red Cross, Psycho Churches, Gov. Workers, etc... It's a 75% chance they will get you royally and legally screwed over in their care, and you'll come up up even more f-ed up on the other end due to the hyper-toxic neurotic environment. Just listen to any homeless person being asked about these things.
@leonardpreciado6269
@leonardpreciado6269 Жыл бұрын
Are you referring to his being "raped " as assault ? ? For those of us who have a normal drug free life, it is assault and rape. But he got "crack" out of it. Meaning "this for that". If you ever talk to some of these guys (and gals) , it's usually a sex trade for the guys. Money or drugs if you want me. Sad, but when we have our own children, it is hard to fathom. The drug is more important than family, that's why they steal from their own families.
@tumblrhoe4180
@tumblrhoe4180 Жыл бұрын
what are you talking about, did you listen to how he described what happened to him? Rape or sexual assault is characterized as non consensual sexual acts towards someone else. This boy never said he'd wanted it, he never said he'd trade the man for crank. He says "and he said 'hey want some jeek'" the man never said "I'll give you these drugs for sex." He had no clue that that's what he was getting into, and even talks about struggling, trying to get the man off him. He mentions the man struggling to pull his pants off. And idk what you're talking about family wise. Clearly he has no support system and it's been that way for a long time. Spend your whole life with your family in and out of prison and see how easy it'll be to steal from the parents who can't even provide for themselves alone. In some cases, yes people prostitute for drugs or steal from their family, but that's not at all the case here. You're putting a broad generalization over an entire group of people and it's unempathetic. The purpose of these videos is so you can see the humanity in each individual, and you're completely disregarding his unique experience over your perceived view of what an addict is.
