To all of the comments here: keep your lubricants changed. Trans is very important just like the oil. Diff, run valvoline 75/140 . Brake fluid, power steering, and coolant. If you like your truck treat it like you do.

I have a 2014 Ram. I've had since brand new. You can shut off the MDS fairly easy. I get much better gas mileage with it off. I've had it off since it had 10,000 miles on it. Truck has a 85000 miles on it now. During the summer time blend of gas I averaged about 22 miles a gallon. During the winter time blend of gas I average about 16 miles a gallon. I've had Ford and Chevy in my younger days neither one would hold up to me. But I've had a Chrysler product for the past 25 years I have never had any serious problem with them. Just keep the oil changed. Have a 96 Plymouth Breeze I've had since 26 miles were on it and it just crossed over 500,000 miles the other day. Dodge and Chrysler products forever in my heart. Amen

Just set the 8 speed gear selector to 8th gear top on dash. Most have this feature on the steering wheel. It actually runs faster and stronger with it off but may use more fuel.

I have the same truck, down to the color. I bought mine brand new in 2010 and still have it to this day and I have never done anything but the oil changes. To be fair though, it is parked in my garage 99% of the time because right after buying it I got a job working from home and never really had to drive again.

My 2012 has 181,000. I had to replace the camshaft about 5,000 miles ago. Purchased the parts and did it all myself. I have also replaced the water pump and radiator. I bought mine with 106,000 on it and use it for work and household stuff. I love my truck! Love the ride, comfort, and pretty much everything else. My one real complaint has to do with the sun visor. It just won't stay in its clip and I have to keep pushing it back in. Keep up the good work.

Both chevy and dodge have cam and lifter issues due to the 4 cylinder shutoff. 07-18 chevy and 09-18 ram ram had 4 cylinder shutoff already in 06 but the 06-08 models have a different setup and it doesn't seem to trouble the same. Great video!!

The 4th gen, is when they peaked, everything after started going down in quality. They're 2022 2500s are all being recalled for bad transmissions out of the factory. 4th gen is king, just don't idle the hemis for long periods, it wears out the cam. And another big issue is exhaust manifold bolts needing replaced, but you don't have to replace those unless you want. Stops after the truck warms up and the metal expands anyways. Only other common issue is the 3rd brake light leaking, which is a cheap fix, just get some gasket sealant and throw it on your light gasket after buying a new one to put on.

On late November of 2007, I bought my truck, brand new, 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab Lonestar Edition, flex-fuel 5.7 litter Hemi engine. It came with the Lifetime Powertrain for as long as you own the vehicle under your name. Already put 387,000 miles on it with over 14,600 hours of running time. It still runs like a champ. And also my 2006 Dodge Ram Laramie Edition 4.7 L engine has almost 489,000 miles on it. Still running like a champ. It's not the new 4.7 liter engine made in 2008. I heard they put an extra 45 horsepower on those new 4.7 Litter 08's Idk? Good video!

So i have to ask to clear up so many rumours about the cam shafts! Honestly how good were you with oil changes and what kind of oil!? Cause i believe 90% of the failures to be lack of proper oil maintenance. Can you confirm?
@razorramon8326
@razorramon8326 3 жыл бұрын
@@fredwilliams7893 Well to be honest, I've been using "Castrol Edge synthetic performance, 5W20, and change out my oil every 3000 Miles even though it says 6000 miles. In addition to my differential and transmission change I also flushed out my oil. Of course everything was done at the dealership. Anyhow after when I reach 85,000 miles that's when I started using the same oil Castrol synthetic edge but high mileage. When I reach 100,000 miles that's when I started mixing "Marvel Mystery Oil" on every oil change. I've been using this stuff for over 35 years always works great. It doesn't void my warranty for my lifetime Powertrain. All I can say is it just depends how you drive the vehicle. You treat it like a racecar well, you're looking for trouble. Pulling extremely heavy loads will also cause you problems. Everybody knows this. There are some cons behind a lifetime Powertrain.. When you have to change or replace something according to your manual and the paperwork, you must comply and do it ASAP. You got to read the fine print.

I have a 2014 Sport Crew Cab that I bought new. Just turned 145k. No tick, and zero issues save for a small trans ‘jerk’ on acceleration that I inherited after servicing the trans. I’m even still on the original brake pads. I run full syn with a 7500-mile oil change interval since new. Planning on running it to 200k and seeing what I have. If the body is still rust-free at that point I’ll probably continue on.

As for me, I have a 2010 f-150 5.4L with 206,000 miles family owned since new. It's needed a wheel bearing, u-joints, and a spark plug change. My only complaint with my ford is the cab corner rust that seems so common on ford's. It looks ridiculous and costs a ridiculous amount of money to fix. My dad has a 2013 f-150 with the 5.0 v8 (awesome engine). His has 160,000 miles on it and literally the only thing that acted up on it was the windshield wipers when it was under warranty (they wouldn't fully turn off).

Veronica Doniel in my opinion I would not recommend you buy a vehicle if you have such nerves about it. I think as you do more research about the different brands you will begin to have a better understanding of what you want. Each brand has their issues, and a majority of the time it comes down to how well the owner(s) maintained the vehicle. I enjoyed my Ram truck but I think I was a little disappointed with how soon some of the maintenance problems happened. I would suggest you look into Toyota’s Tundra or Tacoma. They are a bit pricier but they have a history of lasting with minimal maintenance

I have an 09 and its been a pretty decent truck. Most issues ive had have been related to electronics inside the truck, a/c actuators, power lumbar, power rear window slider, power locks. The cam issue is a common issue with the 5.7L hemi. Bad design with the cam being too high in the block to get sufficient lubricantion. Havent had any issues with mine yet but i only have a little over 110,000 miles. But the interior and exterior have held up extremely well. Paint still looks new. Interior still looks new too.

The 09-18 ram 1500 is a fantastic truck. I live in New England and you barley see rust on them, gm will have rusting wheel-wells and a Ford will have rotted cab corners. The ram is a great balance between looks, durability, luxury, and power. With the ford you get a crappy turbo V6 that’s gonna have issues as it ages and with the gm trucks you just don’t get the same level of comfort and luxury with the ride and interior. Ram for the win

not enough oil the lifters are too far to the side and not enough over top so at idle or low rpm the cam is too dry and wears. check the engine hours on a truck before buying it. a 400k truck with 8000 hours on it is a great buy. a 100 k truck with 8000 hours on it is a very very bad idea.

Cool video dude. I have a 2012 sport 4×4 (with ram box), and 175k miles. Camshaft? Very common and i will add the lifters to the (common) list. Just got that diagnosed on my truck, just an easy 4000$ fix you know what i mean. Not even to mention the manifold bolts that i also had 6 of them were snapped. Oh i almost forgot the win module that i also had to replace, you don't want to guess how much that was to fix ? My Ram dealer charged me 1000$ plus to fix it. Please note after all these problems, i still love my truck, but when i see videos of guys talking that the Hemi 5.7 is a great engine just leaves me blind. Lifters and camshaft ask all the other guys that drive a 4th gen Ram, how many of them had this issue. That's all other than that cool vid bro

2006 chevy silverad0 hd 4x4 6.0 360,000 miles when I sold it and regret it daily. The 1500 big horn is awesome and my 2nd fav only because of clearance and payload which you cant hold against it because its apples and oranges. I constantly drive different trucks at work from 2000 to 2018s and alot of the fords fall short in reliability and just have too many weird catastrophic failures which seem to be either poor QC at factory or design flaws that arent realized until a few years after that model is comes out like when your launching spark plugs like its July 4th on a lot of your fleet as soon as they start to hit that magic number on the odometer. Not that chevy and dodge haven't had their share of failures in the past which is why I have favored different brands over the years myself. So far the 5.7 1500 big horns that I came across have impressed the heck out of me. Enjoy and Good Luck!

We inherited a mint condition 2012 Ram 5.7. The truck has 137,000 miles. I’m familiar with the Hemi tick issues, and were debating on if we should keep the truck or not. The truck drives great, is comfortable and has plenty of power. We really like it but the potential for huge repair bills is a concern.

Try switching to a higher octane fuel, sometimes the tick can be caused by that and 89+ is acually recommended on the hemi.

Camshaft / lifter issues are somewhat common with The Hemi. That’s a major internal part. What did they charge you to replace the cam? Glad the truck is treating you well but not sure I could give it as much credit with the cam needing to be replaced.

@KnowledgeIsPower19 5 жыл бұрын
I can't really remember what they ended up charging us. This happened a couple of years ago, but I want to say it was around $3,000 for parts and labor. It was a very hard decision to pay that, because we were right in the middle of moving back to Oklahoma. I will still in California when this happened, so my wife basically had to figure this out on her own in a state she had never been to before. It was a hard/expensive lesson to learn that we shouldn't go to the dealership for maintenance. Thanks for the comment!

The two main reasons why Ford Triton keeps blowing spark plugs is if you have a earlier engine it has too little threads and the manufacturer's torque specs are too low (16 foot lbs) and should be torqued to 25 foot pounds.

Fish and game well it depends on the condition of the truck. If it helps any I sold the Dodge Ram in the video for $8,500 with 196k miles on it and in very good condition. So it sounds like $12,000 seems fair judging solely on mileage alone. I would Kelly blue book-it to see if the price is reasonable, and I suggest having a mechanic check it out. Just my opinion
