This WW2 Lifeboat & Life Raft Ration was stowed away in every life saving craft from 1942 up into the 1970's. The contents varied only a little bit in that period of time. Most (by this point) do not hold up very well.. But this one was an exception. Probably a once in a lifetime experience. This is a true can of treasure. Check out my very good friend and fellow MRE Reviewer, BTemple - he posted a video of this same ration. But his bit the dust.
• WW2 July, 1945 US Coas...
Still a fascinating look and comparison. Give BTemple a subscribe and check out his reviews. He has a never before reviewed Slovenian MRE Single Meal up as his newest. He's a really cool dude.
I forgot to mention the weight of this ration. It's 2 lbs, 9oz. (Or about 1,100 grams)
PS - as much as I really wanted to (and had fun joking about) - I did not eat any more of these pristine components. Giving them to a family member to re-sell to help cover some bills.
For correspondence, or to send a Military Ration for review, my mailing information is:

Hey everybody, I hope you all are doing well and if celebrated, have some plans lined up for Thanksgiving day with family and friends. Tonight I am putting out this WW2 ration, and a 2018 US Meal Cold Weather. A little something new and old. This particular one was very special and one of my personal favorites as these usually degrade into something unrecognizable by this point in time. My friend BTemple reviewed this same ration and his was a great representation of how all of these will look eventually as time goes on. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3LJoqOkaayioqM As for the remaining components, as much as I enjoyed joking about eating them all, they are going to be given to a family member to re-sell to cover some of their bills. Well anyway, I hope you all enjoy the review and currently I have one more ready to release and another still being edited so stay tuned. Happy Thanksgiving to you all and I hope you have a great evening!

I appreciate so sincerely that Steve understands the monetary value of the items he is examining but at the same time understands the historical value of the items he is examining. It's not JUST a 70 dollar chocolate bar to be exploited for a monetary gain but he demonstrates WHY it is valued so highly. The rarity and historical significance is what makes it so valuable. And these amazing videos can ONLY increase the value yet he consumes these food items this to his own detriment financially. He doesn't seem to exploit collectors, he IS a collector. He doesn't seem to fool experts with half assed eBay listings to only scrape a buck from a history buff, he IS an expert who appreciates the authenticity and significance of the product. This channel is literally the antithesis to most channels on KZbin boasting thier war time experience but shilling a 2 dollar """survival""" kit selling for 80 dollars because of a sponsorship or a gun channel shilling a 3000 dollar AR-15 because they are true weapons experts. Steve really is an expert and a true aficionado of military history and products.

11:05 Steve takes a bite of the Hershey's Tropical Bar and a crumb falls on his tray, his face for a second is like "Hey, that crumble cost me 5 bucks." Seeing you crunch on the malted milk tablets gave me an idea. Ever see that cooking KZbin show, I think it's called Bon Appétit and there's different show too, they try to make popular products from scratch. Like gourmet skittles, or cheetoes, KFC's famous recipe, anything. Anyway they try to reverse engineer the recipe if it's not available. I'm sure those people could reproduce these forgotten delicious candies for all to enjoy(especially those malted tablets:)
@Steve1989MRE
@Steve1989MRE 5 жыл бұрын
That gave me a good chuckle. If there is a way to have an identical replication of those malted milk tablets that would be simply amazing. As much as I enjoyed joking about eating the remaining packs, they will be sold. I'd love to save them all for my display, but a family member needs some money to pay some bills so that is how this one will be allocated in the end. I get to keep the tin though.

What kind of storage conditions are at play when you see these rations almost 8 decades old being almost perfectly preserved? Are the majority of the good rations we see on this channel from forgotten warehouses and storage units that have cool dry temperatures and someone stumbles upon them? It always fascinates me as to where these are coming from and how perfect storage factors can stay consistent for over 70 years.

Interesting to see pemmican in a 20th Century ration. Traditionally not made with vegetable fat. Should have been beef or bison tallow, which is NOT the usual fat, but comes from a particular part of the animal. Tallow and pulverized dried meat is the basic recipe. Lasts for a long time at room temp. The addition of dried fruits and nuts makes it less shelf life stable.
@ME-hm7zm

This is the first vid I've watched on this channel. Ever since I was a kid who loved survivalist stuff and always carried a "survival kit in a sardine can" on hikes and family camping trips, I've likes this kinda thing. I remember I once read some book about being adrift at sea on a WW2 life raft, and I distinctly remember the mention of the hard chocolate as a ration, and also the C rations iirc. Fascinating to me, right down to the way it's all packaged, and imagining the manufacturing and logistics organizing it all. Speaking of things that are "wholesome" like Steve was saying the ingredients were in the past, this channel is certainly full of authentic wholesome content that I'm gonna have to binge lol.
