A great, classy luxury car! I've never seen one before, but I would like to find one and film it... then put it here! Here's a pretty cool fact: Minimal trim and mechanical changes were made for 1964. Leather was dropped as an option, and the Dynaflow-based twin turbine replaced by a new three-speed Super Turbine 400. This was a GM Turbo Hydra-Matic with a variable pitch torque converter like the Dynaflow's. It used a two speed "D,L" selector but could automatically downshift from third to second until the car reached a suitable speed to downshift to first. This was the first year of the Stylized "R" emblem, a trademark that would continue throughout the remainder of Riviera's 36-year production run. The engine was upgraded to the previously optional 340 hp (254 kW) 425 cu in (7.0 l) V8. A 360 hp (268 kW) 'Super Wildcat' version was available, with dual Carter AFB four-barrel carburetors. Total sales for the 1963-1965 model years was a respectable 112,244. The Riviera was extremely well received from all quarters and considered a great success, giving the Thunderbird its first real competition as America's preeminent personal luxury car, John.

One of the classiest looking Buicks ever made. My third grade teacher owned a '65 Riviera . She was one of the meanest teachers I ever had, but when I found out she drove a Riviera I overlooked her persona just to see her in that car.

Very nicely equipped as it should be. Four note horns, power vent windows, cruise etc. Coral wasn’t a popular color but I always liked it. I think the color has been changed to a darker color. I don’t care at all for those wheels but some might! Nice car!

@garywood9525

It was an option for about $27.00 but they were to be mounted on the left and right side of the inner hood right by the cavity between the rocker cover and inner fender wall. Not sure why both were on the drivers side but the owner did say the engine was taken out for upgrade and might be there for now because they aren't wired up yet .

1964 was an interesting year because it had the full wood trim inside while 65 got rid of the polished metal dash because the glare from the sun bother people which made Buick go to a black finish . The 425 engine was now standard since the 401 was dropped . Buick finally solved the Clam-shell hidden light system from the auto Show Silver Arrow pre-63 that was just the proto-type where the 64 would be the last year for the Grill mounted quad light that were now gone for 1965. The 1963 also had 8 levers mounted above the radio area for the the Controls like the Vents and Heating which owners found complicated and annoying when adjusting the radio. This 64 shows how the heating and AC was moved down to the console for east access . The Riviera was the first full production car from Detroit that had the Flush mounted rear window for air flow and a smooth flowing body from the roof to the trunk . That VIN tag matches the Cowl tag as 7 K 1153788 . 7 K is 1964 since 7 J is 1963 while the O4D is the last week on April 1964 and the Style is 64 ( year ) 4747( 2dr hrdtp Riviera ) . The 140 MPH speedo was to impress people because GM's tests and specs list the top speed at 120 mph. By 1966, most of the kids i hung around with had found it cool for a car to have hidden lights like the Charger , Corvette and Toronado. In 67 we saw the T-bird , Cougar and grand prix get them as well . Just a note about the Wonderbar radio.....the Tech sheet claims it was for the AM radio and is had a SEEK function while driving where it found the strongest signal for you, there was also a floor button for the Left foot to push and manually seek a Station. The FM radio was pretty new and there weren't too many FM Stations. In 1963, the T-Bird and Lincoln got the AM/FM option . If the is a Wonderbar radio....it may be only for the AM band .

@@loucostabile I guess you can't tell, but I have subscribed. The Riviera has always been my favourite Buick. 63, 64 ,65 ... had a friend when I was in high school had a 66. Didn't like it as much but it drove nice. It was no match for my 70 Cuda though. Back in those days gas was only 36 cents per gallon. Those were the days !!! If I knew what that Cuda would be worth these days I would have stored it in my father's barn. Who knew ? Looking forward to seeing upcoming videos. ✌

Those horns were a GM option dating back to the 40's. They were called trumpet horns. Buick, Cadillac, and Olds were the most common marques to feature them. They were available in different tones to the customer's choosing. Tho they typically sound like a freight train. Few survived on the E bodies because of their location. Many owners either removed them, or relocated them.
