wow. Thank you so much for this! I'm helping my son with an '89 Suburban, and it's NOT a k series, like most of the tutorials assume. The brakes are exactly like your C10. This and an old Corvair video are so far the only ones I've found that are exactly like ours. Its nuts... Thank you again, so much for this.

I noticed something that may be of help to you and others later on. I'm putting brakes on my '64 C-10, using new AC Delco drums. They did not have the obround brake self adjuster hole punched out, just an indentation for it. For whatever reason, GM didn't put access to the self adjusters on the backing plates like they did on later model ones, so you have to remove the wheel to get to them. Eventually, you'll want to remove the drum to inspect for brake wear, and if the shoes have created a ridge, those drums are going to be difficult to remove unless you loosen the self adjuster to release tension. I recommend punching that indentation out on the drums so that you can get access to them. Otherwise, you might end up with a stuck drum with no access to release the tension.

I found the drivers side drum is tight and the adjuster is all the way in? The primary brake shoe on the driver side is to the rear?

Not being there I cannot tell you why it is tight, but it should not be. Yes the primary(larger) shoe goes to the rear.

The C10 is not in the shop right now so I cannot check, My recollection is that when the two cables from the drums come together the union is threaded and you can tighten or loosen the length of the connecting cable.

5:50. A nail holds your brakes together, I have used actual nails to hold my brakes together, not my proudest moment, but still....
