Very educative and informative video. I have a two 1972 C30 1ton trucks with very poor steering wheels and I have been thinking of how to fix them and I am not mechanically sound...🙄😬 I love classic trucks and I have collected 5 so far.

Great video really good filming and great audio I never had to struggle to hear what you were saying thank you. I have one question what era is that power steering pump going to be from how will that affect the steering of the truck? I know late model vehicles in the 90s and 2000s the power steering feels much different than my 82 Chevy. A friend of mine has a GM mechanic and he explained it but I didn’t pay really close attention I just noticed the difference

Good vid, as usual. I have one question, just curious. Why didn't you prime frame, to prevent rust, after stripping. Is there a specific reason?
@ThrottleStopRacing3 жыл бұрын
The gear box is already back off, and work on the frame is next.

@@ThrottleStopRacing cool, it's a lot of work on rust removal and I didn't want to see you undo your hard work. Keep up the good work.

Hello, Nice video. Do you weld the coupler adapter to the steering column? Thank you. I am new at this.

Have a question. I purchased the same parts for my 1966. Have it installed up to attaching the lines to the gearbox. Found in a bag two brass colored "nipples" with an O ring on one end. Called POL and tech told me to install them into gearbox ports and with a socket pound them into place! Well it's not working as they do not allow hose ends to tighten completely and not leak. In no videos have I seen this step. Did you have to do this?

I have not gotten that far in the conversion sorry

I have seen this threaded lower hole too many time, I hate this! Why! First off, it’s back-asswards. Drill the brackets threads out, it already has spacers are the 60-66 and 67 C10 manual steering comes with. It trust the treaded box better that bracket. Beside, the new steering gear box is now molested. Rebuilders want non-metric cores that are very hard to come by. So upon your cores inspection and the threads are gone, so is your core money. $150-$250 core gone. Yes, it drops the box away from the core support bracket and clears the left front fender bolt & brace. I like a back-up inside frame place to add rigidity to the frame, but unlike the Dodge Van with its split front fame that cracks at the p/s box mount, the GM truck is much thicker. Go to 67-72 Chevy Truck forum and find captain fab. Laser cut brackets but holes not threads! Cheaper than CCP, POL or who ever make these. Look, don’t drill out perfect good holes in a replaceable part. The frame is yours, the box goes back someday and your grandson / granddaughter will pay big, unusable core. Tap & heli-coil, you bet! I have a drawer dedicated to rigid fluted easy outs, and 16 kits of heli-coil kits for SAE & Metric! Don’t do it! ASE Master Tech since 1978 - Retired

I fully understand your point of view. I hated drilling the box, but did not have enough vision to see another was.

A guy has to do what he can at the time. There are many times over the decades I will I could go back...like leaving the family farm sooner. I got tied getting a leather belt on my legs and behind! I was 6’3” at age 11 and adopted receiving two meals, shower and downstairs bedroom built from pegboard. Close the chicken coop and 3 came out of hay barn an hour later, I got the belt. Chop ice, drag hay, 50lb. hog feed in feeder, scoop hog poop from 4.5’ tin roof hog shed w/scoop shovel. Not fun with 2,000 nails covered in fly crap poking my head. Bought my first vehicle at 13 for $150 a 67 C10, still have it. Wife made me give my 68 Dodger away to my youngest half brother and never got a thanks. Wish I had it back. Best of luck!

Great video. One thing that no one seems to address in any video is re squaring the drag link after updating the power steering box. This changes the square and plumb of the drag link and creates a bum steer issue.

The bracket from “Captain Fab” addresses “Bump-Steer” straight and level. Now lower by bags, all rules are gone!

Never said that I didn't know how to do it. I just see lots of people not correct it and blame it on other things.
