1965 Mustang fuel gauge fix

In this video I’ll show you how I diagnosed my fuel gauge issue.
Removing and Reinstalling the fuel sending in a 1965 Ford Mustang aka: Modified Mustang
Testing the fuel level gauge for signal, and removing the sending unit from the gas tank revealed the affects of running ethanol blend fuel.

Thanks, with your video was able to figure out our 63 falcon fuel sending unit issue. Since Mustang's and Falcons are pretty much the same made it very easy to fix

Cars back then are great to work on. Parts were shared so much, if it wasn’t available for your particular model you could easily cross reference it with some other model and have your car back up and running. Thanks for subscribing! Nice falcon to, love that (grabber?) blue!

Why wouldn’t you replace or clean out the tank if parts from the fuel sending unit were in there deteriorating?

Very interested to see how you’ve got your fuel pump/rear gas line mounted. I’m trying figure out the ideal way to mount an electric pump on my ‘66.

What did you hook the wire to from the light tester to?

Damage, Inc. a ground. The light tester has a ground clamp and the pointer end you touch to a positive/hot connection or wire and that completes the circuit allowing the bulb to light-up on the tester indicating power flowing through the circuit.

I've been trying to fix the gas gauge on my 56 Chevy truck since 1995, still haven't figured it out! Lol

Have you tried using an aftermarket fuel gauge to test with? That might help you. Your original is is is like 64yrs old, it might have just pooped the bed and not work ever again. If so then at least you can use the newer working aftermarket to gauge your fuel level. 👍

What’s that tool called that you used to test the power source?

It was just a simple circuit tester. If my memory serves me, I believe I got it from autozone.

Where did you ground the light test to?

I clamped the test light ground wire to one of the fuel tank mounting bolts under the car.

DANG! That sending unit was GONE! Great video, Mike. Just to confirm, with the ignition on, testing of the wire should produce a 'flashing' light in the tester to be considered working properly?

Yeah, Tim that sending was pretty bad. Yes, you should be getting a flashing light using a light tester. All my wiring in that video was the Original wiring harness. So it took a little to get a decent connection with the tester. Thanks for chiming-in! This was a pretty old video, so I hope you’ll check out there other and newer videos.
