This black 1967 Formula S Plymouth Barracuda is a driver's car and owner John Rocks proudly displays it at local car shows. John refers to his work as a restofication, meaning that it may not be a number 1 show car but it looks almost as good as new. John is an expert in Mopars and tells the story about how he worked on Mopars as a young man and we show pictures of his original 1967 convertible Plymouth Barracuda. We also get a peak at his white 1967 Plymouth Barracuda coupe. The contrast of these two cars sitting side by side is pretty special. Hang in there and take an afternoon drive with John as he shows off the cornering performance of his black Formula S Plymouth Barracuda. The white Barracuda is not too happy about it but you can only drive one car at a time.
This video includes the use of a camera jib (crane) for some incredibly smooth shots. The use of the GoPro was a learning experience as this was the first time we used it to capture some scenes of John and his car speeding around corners. This is one videographer that had to hold on tight and some of the footage was not usable as I went flying around in my seat.

I started out with a ‘65 valiant signet 273 4 barrel auto, ‘58 Nomad, ‘62 impala 4094speed, ‘67 GTX, then found my dream car. It was a ‘69 340s formula S 4 speed. Raced it into the ground, got married and ended up with my last ‘69 340S formula S auto. Them small blocks were bullet proof.

Cool story and nice job on the restorations. I love those barracuda fastbacks 67-69. It's always cool to hear how mopar guys got into mopars. Me personally my dad got me into mopars. the very first mopar I ever got in was a 69 gtx 440 4 spd car which dad still has til this day. It needs to be total restored now,I have videos of it in its current condition. I also have videos of the rest of the mopars we aquired over the years.

We have something in common..... the 1st car I owned was a '67 Cuda convertible. Bought in '69 for $1,200. I was 17. It was Bright Blue metallic w/ white top & interior. Love that color and still do. Was 273cu in with a 2bbl. 904 Torqueflite and 7 3/4" axle. Run well but not very fast. Extremely reliable. Took 2 of my sisters through each of their full college terms! Sooooo many fond memories of driving it around Virginia Beach with the top down. Thanks for this video. Cheers

The 1967 Formula S was Detroit's first true car build for road racing and handling and I love it! That 273 is the same as the 340 dimension wise so can replace it with the 340 and man that engine is the best small block ever produced until recent times and handles like a beast.

We are big fans of the 340 and agree with you that it is the best small block ever produced.

My uncle had a 69 Formula-S 340 4-speed Cuda back in the late 70s. When he got it it already had a cam, some head work, headers, exhaust, Holley carb, etc. He always talks about how much he loved it and how nasty it was. And it would be! A warmed over 340 with a 4-speed in a little 3000-ish pound car like this? Forget small blocks that thing could take down it's fair share of big blocks

Exactly like mine. I swapped out the 273 for a beefed up 340 and traded the 4speed for a overdrive unit from a Feather Duster. Also went with a short pistol grip Hurst shifter. Never loved a car more... even if it was worthless for winter driving.

1965 the 273 commando 4bbl was offered in the barracuda formula S. I had one with a 4 speed. Darn quick street race car too after balancing and blueprinting the engine. Swapping out to an 8 3/4 rear end and 4.56 gears. Wish I still had it. MOPAR guy too had a 70 44+6 4 speed cuda, 64 sport fury, 67 Dodge coronet as well as a 71 Dodge Demon 340.

Ya what really made Me mad is when the detective came out to investigate it he took Me to lunch and then accused Me of having it stolen to collect insurance money on it. I told him that would be a nice theory to run with if it had of been insured but I had just bought it 4 days earlier and had not even changed the title or insured it yet. Although I had only paid $100 for it it was a fast back Formula S and had big plans for the 600 hp 383 We were building for it. On a side note I finished the motor and trans and stuffed them in My 70 Satellite 2dr with a posi I got from a buddy after he totalled his 69 Road Runner.

Nice. I've got a 65, 66, and 67 F/S like his only bright red with dealership painted triple center sports stripes. Other than the exterior paint, just like the dark one, including 4 speed.

So many people tell us they should have never sold the Barracuda they had back in the day. I own a 'Cuda I bought 42 years ago. I knew they were something special. I owned a Challenger but really wanted a 'Cuda. Even back then it was hard to find a 'Cuda but I didn't quit looking. It was sitting in a car lot on a busy street right up front. I negotiated for several hours on a Sunday and the car salesman wasn't budging. I told them I was not interested and walked towards my car. Another car salesman came running out as I was reaching for my car door handle. He said he was the manager and could make me a good deal. I didn't care who he was as long as he gave me a good price. I called their bluff and got my price. Never give up. Find a way to get that Barracuda you always wanted. 'Cuda Brother Sam

We hear it all the time. One story that comes to mind is when someone told me that he sold his 'Cuda years ago because his wife did not like the smell of gas. It's the fun factor, the feel of the road, and even smell of the gas that makes driving an old Barracuda a ton of fun.

E-bodies have a strong following and we are getting more feedback from people like you that prefer the second generation Barracuda. We show no favoritism even though we own three E-Body 'Cudas. If not for the original Barracuda there may never have been an E-Body.

John Rocks ? My name is Ron Rock and son is John Rock after my dad. Dejevu? I'm Mopar man also, first high school hot rod 1966 Belvedere, 383, 4 speed. Then traded up to 1970 Charger R/T 440 Magnum which should have kept. Always liked Cudas, 67-69 best. Saw '68 Cuda S with 383 in neighbor's lot other day. Needs some TLC. Let me know if in Phoenix area.

HI Ron Rock, We worked with John to produce the video. I will make sure he gets your message. John lives in the Portland, Oregon area. Do you currently own any Mopars? We hear stories all the time about how people wish they had their old cars back. Others hold on to their old muscle cars and keep them hidden away or leave them outdoors to rust away.
