Description of Ford Mustang taken from Wikipedia "The first-generation Ford Mustang was manufactured by the Ford Motor Company from April 1964 until 1973. The introduction of the Mustang created a new class of automobile known as the pony car. The Mustang’s styling, with its long hood and short deck, proved wildly popular and inspired a host of imitators. It was initially introduced as a hardtop and convertible with the fastback version put on sale the following year. At the time of its introduction, the Mustang, sharing its underpinnings with the Falcon, was slotted into a compact car segment."

I'm a model builder/sculpter and I came here to see what the advertisements had to say about the brand new 1975 design. I have a LTD 4dr sedan in 1/25 scale resin, and want to build it as a '76 Manganese Metallic Brown with medium brown or "British Bridle Brown" leather interior, tinted windows, Craig stereo with Jensen speakers (to blast The Crusader's Those Southern Knights) and a "President Ford" Bicentennial Star window decal for the backlight.

Back in those days we knew someone who bought a new `75 or `76 Granada. My father drove it once and hated it. It had the 4 speed stick shift, and my dad said that when he put it in third he smashed his knuckles on the dash every time. But at the time we had a new Chrysler Town & Country and a `67 Imperial, and my dad was used to those cars.

@@SpockvsMcCoy The same year Continental was a 127 inch wheelbase in the same A body as the LTD and Marquis.
@SpockvsMcCoy
@SpockvsMcCoy 2 жыл бұрын
@@socalltd There was some component sharing among Ford, Mercury, and Lincoln....but the Lincoln Continental has longer rear doors than the other two so it is more dissimilar. The biggest structural difference between the LTD and the Marquis was that the Mercury had a longer cowl to front axle ratio (longer front fenders and hood) even though the greenhouse is similar.
@socalltd
@socalltd 2 жыл бұрын
@@SpockvsMcCoy True about the greenhouse, slight dimension differences in sheet metal and distinct touches to each model. Ford did all this for the LTD, T bird, Mk III - IV, Marquis and Conti in the A body in the 3 wheelbases allowing the same engines, brakes components and suspension parts sharing up to 78 or 79 depending on model before being downsized.
@SpockvsMcCoy
@SpockvsMcCoy 2 жыл бұрын
@@socalltd Both GM and Chrysler did the same thing with their full-size cars of that era. However, the 1972 to 1976 Thunderbirds and Continental Mark IVs used the exact same wheelbase...saving money on separate tooling. The 1968-1971 Continental Mark III used the wheelbase of the 1967-1971 Thunderbird 4-Door sedan. A mechanic told me several years ago that those Lincolns have massive rubber body mounts compared to the cheaper Mercury and Ford. Also, Lincolns used more sound deadening and the upholstery is thicker with the interior trim being more weighty and of higher quality.

It’s hilarious to me that Ford was pitching the Granada as “outselling all other ‘75 newcomers combined.” That list was: Skyhawk, Monza, Cordoba, Bobcat, Monarch, Starfire, and Astre. Only one of those models was in the same basic price/size class, and it was the Granada’s own Mercury companion. And they must have dropped this particular angle by April or May of ‘75 because once the AMC Pacer launched in March, and the Seville in May, it wasn’t true anymore.

1975 was a difficult economic year. And first year for unleaded gasoline. Plus cars went up almost $1,000 in price because of all of the safety and emissions requirements. A lot of those cars a lot of engine problems because of going to unleaded. Sad. Because some were really amazing looking.

It's because we were asked to be more energy cautious. When I traveled to Los Angeles a few years back after not traveling at all for a few years because of the TSA ordering me to strip down all the time, whilst demanding to see my "Papers?" in German accents, I was amazed to see how clear the air is down there now. I could actually see Mt.Wilson from Colorado Blvd! In the mid 1980's when I was going to school down there, all I could see is what looked like a very high concrete wall. I'm not sure how important those early regulations on emissions affected the present day results, but I am proud that as a united nation, we tried.

"in HD 1080p" Again, a nice conversion of these vintage ads for KZbin. And not stretching their original 4:3 aspect ratio to 16:9. However: 1 Uploading 250-330 line video as 1080p, does not make it 1080p 2 Unless these ads are taken from film stock, there is no way they have anywhere near 1080 horizontal line resolution. They definitely don't look it. Most likely these ads are from videotape, like Sony U-matic, which had a resolution of 250 to 330 horizontal lines. I don't know of any TV advertising storage formats in 1975 that had anywhere near 1080 line resolution. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U-matic#Development

@@paulparoma The Seville always reminded me of those fedoras that fashionable women were wearing then. You remember them? Small, downturned brim front and back which looked exactly like the Seville's profile. Isabelle Adjani wore one in "The Driver" (1978) Ryan O'Neal. [Self Edit] I'm sorry, I just looked at a still of Isabelle's hat, I remembered wrong... The hats that I was thinking of were worn by Charlie's Angels, especially Cheryl Ladd and Shelly Hack.

@@kidmack3556 I remember that time very well. Too bad women don't wear hats too often nowadays. All grace and elegance have been erased from our world, and replaced with aggressive vulgarity. She was a an unexpected delight in "Ishtar," which was a great movie that fell victim to Hollywood politics.
