Thanks! It has always been located in the Southwest. It is the heat that does the damage to the plastic parts out here.

That reverb from the pump will most likely go away when you get the fuel in the tank.

I replaced my tank but the filler hose is pinched between it and the body. So it takes an hour to fill the tank. What’s the fix?
@SteveAZ7119 ай бұрын
If it was not pinched when it was removed then it should be removed and repositioned. Part of the filler hose is metal as shown at 24:58. Installation should look like that. Maybe you need a new molded host to the tank. An aftermarket flex hose may not work. I am really unsure what is causing this problem.

I've found that if I make the sound of an air ratchet when I'm manually removing bolts it helps them to loosen.

That's a drag the receiver hitch was made too wide to allow the tank to pass. Would it make it if the tank was tipped to one side or the other?

Not sure David. I will think about it if I have to do it again.

@@SteveAZ711 lets pray you dont have to. You know thats the most common probkem with all of the fords starting in the 80s and still going. Especially those with twin tanks. Theres been several recalls. At least 1 covered the one im working on. Thats why i like dodge. Theyll keep running even after they shorted out and are in flames. Thats the quality ive come to expect.

Is that the same pump you put in the front tank? Do you have a link to the pump?
@SteveAZ711 Жыл бұрын
If I remember correctly I believe they were the same. I bought them from Rock Auto. You need to go the their site and enter your vehicle information and they will present you with the proper parts for you vehicle according to price and manufacturer.

I have an 87 f150 with the 5.0 and dual tanks. same issue I think. mine works on the front tank but is pushing fuel back into the rear tank. Not sure yet if the rear tank actually works. If the rear tank when selected works, would my problem be with the dual fuel selector valve? I read on several forums that the pump assembly in each of the 2 tanks has a fuel valve shutoff for the return. Is that in addition to the dual fuel return valve?
@SteveAZ7112 жыл бұрын
Hi Mac, the fuel tank switch, (dash mounted), selects which in tank fuel pump to excite, (run) and that fuel pressure from that selected pump, in turn automatically pushes a rotating valve inside the selector valve,(external frame rail mounted), to direct fuel to the high pressure fuel pump mounted externally on the frame rail. The selector valve has no electrical connections just fuel line connections. Problems arise when the selector valve gets stuck in one position and misdirects the fuel thus filling one tank with another's fuel while still allowing the high pressure (frame rail mounted ) pump to still get fuel for the engine. One ends up having to fill only one tank and run on it as the other will drain itself dry all the while still allowing the engine to run. My 1987 has no fuel shut off valves on the in tank pumps. Hope this helps. Thanks!
@mackendw2 жыл бұрын
@@SteveAZ711 so the selector valve inside the DFR must ONLY be directing return fuel based on the position of the valve. The pump in each tank that is turned on by the switch must just pass the fuel thru it unabated by the valve position. Am I understanding this correct? Appreciate your insight. When I saw the video of the mechanic take one apart and show the two metal piston/rods that connect to a plate under the diaphragm inside the top cover, these pistons have recessed areas cut into them that when in an UP or DOWN position, would allow or stop fuel from going thru the top line or bottom line respectively.

Not sure what the issue is, but you may find a better tank at a wrecking yard for not too much money. In addition, I have had good luck joining metal parts together with JB Weld, especially if they are now movable parts.
