Bottom line: Miami was always for real. FSU...not so much. Miami was Miami, but FSU had a lot of mouth and they always seemed to come up short against The U when the game really mattered. This was the sweetest of all games.....

Wasn't this the game after FSU's "Seminole Rap" video? Bowden said he knew Miami was probably going to destroy them the moment he saw it played. The team was cocky as heck.

for Miami haters, this was frustrating. By 1988, Miami may have been the most despised team in college football history. Literally outside of the city of Miami, it seemed like nobody was happy with this outcome
@tmarsh03074 жыл бұрын
Your criticism may be warranted, but Bowden did an incredible job saving that season. They beat the ACC Champion, the SEC Champion, Michigan State, Florida and South Carolina (59-0). After losing 31-0, they wound up 11-1 and ranked #3. I think they validated themselves. Miami seemed to have their number, but FSU did get them a few times. But, yes, Miami was for real and had they played for the tie vs Notre Dame, they would have won the National Championship in 1988.

Ah man I remember this game. This was a total humiliation of FSU done my Miami. This was the year where my hatred of them was blown through the roof. I hated Jimmy Johnson so badly that day and then we had the wide rights after this.

this FSU team was really good!!! but I'm sure they wish they didn't have this game scheduled first.

Yes they indeed were! Have u seen the appalling video! FSU showed us in that opener one glaring fact - they were all talk and no action! LITERALLY no action! They did have one common denominator though going for them - both their rap and their performance against The U that night were a complete joke

I'm sure that Brent to this day is happy that Miami was denied the national championship by those corrupt officials in that ND game.

Corrupt officials my ASS!! I'm not even a Notre Dame fan but they lost fair and square! They also lost fair and square to Penn State in the Fiesta Bowl!! Miami has gotten their fair share of breaks from officials over the years so don't even give me that shit!! Shoulda, woulda ,coulda Jimmy Johnson but you lost to Penn State!! Maybe Vinny shouldn't have thrown 5 interceptions!! Maybe they shouldn't have gotten sacked 20 fucking times against Tennessee in the 86 Sugar Bowl!! Miami fans quit crying!!

And this coming from the KINGS of "shoulda, woulda, coulda", the little michigan wolverinites. Hey, think you'll ever beat ohio state again in this lifetime? You've won like once in this century bud! And I hate to tell ya but 2020's right around the corner. Maybe you can get Lloyd Carr back? I bet even without Urban you don't win next year......or the year after.....or the year after....or the year after......

Florida State had a rap song which only motivated that hurricanes team even more a 31-0 beating by the defeanding national champions that Miami hurricanes team was like Michael jordan motivated then score 55 on the New York Knicks

This FSU team may have been a bit overhyped. They were lucky to win at clemson and in their bowl game, a questionable no call for pass interference helped them escape Auburn in the sugar bowl. Could have easily finished 9-3 instead of 11-1. Their 89 team got off to a slow start losing to clemson and so miss (qb was some dude named favre) but ended the year on a 10 game winning streak and routed Nebraska in their bowl game. That 89 team may have been better than the 88 fsu team despite the records.

@damienkirksey70264 жыл бұрын
@@rawn4203 I know we can agree that FSU being preseason number one was little too high for them...They should've been at least preseason number four
@rawn42034 жыл бұрын
@@damienkirksey7026 Yeah, that sounds a bit more realistic. They could have beaten anybody that year, including Miami, ND, WV, USC, or Michigan. I think they just ran into Miami at the wrong time and wrong place (nationally televised nite time game, season opener) and that time the canes kinda had their #, this win was the canes 4th in a row over FSU.
@tmarsh03074 жыл бұрын
The 1989 team - what might have been. That loss to Southern Miss was so damaging. If they had won that game, no matter how close the score, people would have given them a pass for the Clemson loss. Then, look at their wins - Auburn, Miami, at Florida, South Carolina, at Syracuse, and at LSU. Certainly with the head-to-head win over Miami, Florida State would have won the National Championship.

totally. abjectly. manhandled. the noles- not showing up. the canes- winning ugly. FSU would go on to have a good season that year- but this one has never been forgotten by noles fans- not to this very day...
