I live in a tower block in Scotland, my neighbor has had three fires, I've helped him out of two, Ive been out going up and down the tower one other time because I heard what sounded like a fire alarm, checked four floors up and down before I realized it was a tree branch cutter outside that was rapidly beeping like a fire alarm (stupid designe idea), I don't fuck about after Grenfell. The government didn't let people die. The government housed many of these people in the first place and provide the public services that saved many of them. Big picture here. It is true to say that people's lives were lost from poor decisions but you need to look at how the fire started in the first place.
@EatPlasticSurgery17 жыл бұрын
alright mate let's talk big picture then. The reason these people were poor and needed government funded housing in the first place is because the capitalist system feeds off of them. The upper class's greed is the reason they needed to be saved or whatever in the first place and greed is the reason the council didn't spend the extra couple pounds on better materials. So yes, you're right about the big picture.The big picture is how capitalism has fucked them over again and again. It was a poor decision but it was a conscious one.

I'm not sure what Benjamin's point is at 9:15. Making a generic prediction about disaster scenarios doesn't make it any more avoidable. Whether that's predicting a fire in tower block, a plane crash, a train derailment, a huge sinkhole in a major city, if you name a realistic disaster then it's going to happen eventually. The fact that their prediction was nearly 40 years ago makes it even more likely that something along the lines of what they described would have happened by now. In the same way, I will predict that sometime in the future there will be a major plane crash. The fact that I've just said that doesn't make it an amazing prediction when it actually happens, and it doesn't make it any more avoidable when these types of disaster are difficult, even impossible, to avoid forever. If their prediction had been specific then it would be more of an indictment of the safety standards, but a generic prediction will come to pass one day whether safety standards are improved or not.

The developers saved fortunes on Labour costs and the government could crow about him quickly they were building new houses

25:01 - They're not interested in dialogue, creating understanding, this was an excellent example of that. This show is merely interested in dividing people and labelling them. Left wing, right wing, I think there are hypocrites and corrupter's on both sides, evil isn't subjective, everyone is welcome to be evil, it's not racist like that, everyone can join the club! Instead of 'right' and 'left', what about just being 'correct'? I like to be correct-wing, not left, not right, just correct. Sick of tired of all this bs. "We need to shut our borders to the EU as well, to stop people coming over here that are not actually contributing to the country." Alright bit silly, not everyone who comes here is a scammer and leeches, but who would disagree to reject applicants who won't contribute? You did say you didn't know about statistics, well there's quite a few Brits abroad so...but hey he's speaking sincerely he admitted he doesn't know everything. Can't disagree with rejecting people who don't contribute. (But don't worry, the later clip will cement the idea he thinks all immigrants are scammers). "...that the people here, they didn't come in because of the EU" - Interviewer (cut a bit out) Alright luv, he's just saying he doesn't want people who don't contribute coming to the UK. Which is fair enough, we already have our fair share of bloody criminals here! (and they come in all shapes and sizes) "Not saying they have, you've got facts I haven't, you've got all these statistics I don't, I'm not particularly minded as you are, alright, this is coming from the heart, I feel like a stranger in my own country." (Notice how they cut this clip) "...this use to be a really good white area here." Job done guys, we've discredited him. He's a racist, we don't have to listen to his genuine grievances any more. I felt bad for the guy, he's at a loss to explain what is happening. He's being sincere, give him a chance. Fair enough he doesn't understand, so let's explain it to him. Watching the clip, can you blame him? No wonder he feels like a stranger, most the people in the video are foreign. This is the fault of the government mismanaging immigration. They know immigration is cheap labour, they don't mind fucking over their own citizens, look at our long illustrious history of it. Now I do find 'this use to be a really good white area' distasteful, but I noticed the clip was cut, we didn't get to here the before and after, it's almost as if they are trying to portray a certain picture... But of course, this issue is so complicated marred by a myriad of issues that takes more than a few nice catchy 'sound bites' and sarky comments to understand. It's much easier just to label people rather than understand them. He has genuine grievances, and they should be listened to. Perhaps then, we could tackle those problems and we wouldn't get comments like that. However that's boring, as Pascoe said, 'articulate man makes a great point' doesn't get many views, nor would 'confused man speaks from the heart' as opposed to 'racist says this use to be a really good white area' get as many views. Anyhow I find it funny, comedians are a pressure valve to release tension, I remember a story about when Stalin visited some Eastern European country with some government person, they saw a comedy sketch and the comedian was chastising the government, Stalin asked why on Earth they would allow such a thing?! The man said, comedians release tension, they laugh, they go home, they do nothing, and if they are planning, we know where to find them. I do like to rant.

I don't think it's fair to say that ALL Tories are as shit as May is. I'm as leftist as it comes, and sadly the left never wins in my area, but credit where it's due, my MP is a Tory, and she's a really decent person. I quite like her. I would never vote for her, but I'm never really truly sad when she wins, because she does a good job. I disagree with her completely politically, but she does her job competently and is a likeable person. I prefer the recurring Labour candidate we have here, but I don't think it's fair to say the Tory MP sucks. She doesn't, I just prefer someone else.

Yella Dart Ya sure and some Nazis were decent guys and gals as well. But in the end they all pledge allegiance to a ridiculous ideology which supersedes their individual personalities..

+Wyatt Barone That is a slippery slope, Nazis are definitely bad, but remember, that in Germany before and during WW2, EVERYONE was technically a nazi, do be careful with the accusations.

_Guys, why is this show about Frankie Boyle's politics all full of Frankie Boyle's politics?_
@martingardner76427 жыл бұрын
Yes because critical thinking free from selective media bias of this programme, which might feasibly involve listening to the arguments of the majority of the electorate in two national votes is certainly not worth the time discussing.

I'm actually really surprised that Frankie would do a show called litterally 'New World Order' and be of the nature that it is. How the mighty have fallen. I always knew Frankie liked to push peoples buttons but I didnt think he would willingly be a "mainstream left" propaganda pusher. Its not even nearly as funny as I remember him being in other shows in the past.

Any of the critics ever consider that Frankie hasn't "changed", the world has changed, this is just his opinion. And if he has, by the way, he's allowed to change. I am sure he's just saying what he wants as usual. For a political show where the panel consists of comedians, people are taking it real fucking hard.
@tokyoarrow7 жыл бұрын
The jokes rely on heavily slanted half-truths and quite often outright lies. As a centrist, and not a partisan supporter of either the conservatives or labour, and who was open to Brexit but never voted, I hate being propagandised, even if it's veiled behind comedy. I'm all for comedy, but please try to keep it fair. I saw Eddie Izzard live recently in Tokyo and the weakest parts of his show were the political parts. The rest was great, but I felt alienated as someone who tries to keep an objective/non-partisan and true news perspective. Just my thoughts anyway.
@melancholics_78086 жыл бұрын
Tokyo Arrow enforcing that a show can't express any particular preference either is still pushing an agenda; a centrist agenda. Everyone has an opinion, it's impossible to make it not in way of one opinion or another. This show just happens to be leftist, if you don't like it, watch a centrist show.
