Payne Stewart defeats Scott Simpson in a playoff to win his first U.S Open title. Sorry, the sound is a little screwed up starting at 15:52.

Did anyone catch the announcer at 320 saying, "He is below the hole, he is one of few to be below the hole today." Well no shit. He is in a 2 man playoff on a Monday.

Payne Stewart, what a class act. Sorely missed.

Didn't realize they were doing the "Get in the hole!" crap as early as 91.
That was at Hazeltine in MN. Great course. I played there in my younger days (had to give up golf back in '08 because of too many orthopedic surgeries; my body-and mind- is screwed up because of a previous profession). I think he still is a golf icon and "cooler than the other side of the pillow" (Stewart Scott quote). I still miss him. No one to catch America's golf attention since Tiger got his vision screwed up by the ex and a 9-iron. We miss ya Payne. Why do bad things happen to great people? (question for God, I guess...)

checksandbalance89 ah, so thats the new tiger excuse. well its refreshing from all the "back injuries" at least
@checksandbalance899 жыл бұрын
The back injuries are definitely a problem. Ever have surgery on your back? I just mention that (the eye) b/c right after he came back after the attack, he seemed to have a sort of 'lazy eye'. I don't know what is bothering him the most. Prob the back, but if you look at the pics before and after he was hit you will see. I still respect Tiger. For someone to fall that quickly... sad. It was just my theory. You don't have to hate him.... unless it was your wife he slept with (or daughter).

Gotta laugh at the spectator shouting "birdie time" on 7:50 when the ball goes in the lake!!

16th at Hazletine was the bastard hole of the weekend that year. Stewart owned it every round.

***** Which part? The oblivious nature of the bogan fan or the heart rending plea for sanity?

+Hank Hardigan Now they are doing it when a player tees off. It's so obnoxious. Some people will say it on literally every shot They should be banned from tournaments.

Remember watching this as a 15 year old and could never tell what NFL logo Payne was wearing. Anyone know?
@kevinmac22983 жыл бұрын
Most likely Vikings...I think he generally wore the logo of the regional team where he was playing and this tourney was in Minnesota

Payne was a great guy.. But always shake yer playing partners hand 1ST especially in a situation like that

What? Simpson was way off to the side of the green. I think celebrating with your caddy is perfectly fine.

One of the prettiest swings ever vs one of the ugliest swings ever (no offence, I'd take it as my swing if it worked like his!)
