I feel like this is what a real luxury car looks like, very comfortable and practical on the inside with everything you need, while being rugged and capable on the outside

Delica was and still is a luxury van in Japan. But they also have a Delica Mini as well, which your regular kei-van

1:40 These were actually 4-speed automatics. Overdrive on/off switch at the end of the stalk controls the fourth gear.

I love old Delicas, you see them all over the Pacific coast. The previous gen can be spotted in British Columbia because of an extra 10 years allowance for import laws. Quirky, but generally pretty capable vehicles that can certainly get you places. As they age, finding replacement parts is more difficult because of their uniqueness but there's a community of Delica lovers out here.

The newest one I have seen is a 2009 gas 6 cylinder from a dealership in BC. They are selling it for $20,000?? I forget.

In The Philippines, we got this generation of the Delica called "Space Gear" in 1998 I think and we have a Hyundai version called "Starex"

We had them here in Ireland too, jap imports. I used to have an Isuzu big horn. Sold the Isuzu years ago, but I still have a big horn thankfully

the starex was more successful than the counterpart it was based on

I'm in Cagayan de Oro City Mindanao, and I have seen a Delica Space Gear occasionally around the subdivision where I live. Vans have been popular in the Philippines for a few decades, but it seems like dual cab pickups and SUVs are taking over the market these days.

I love these little vanlets and trucklets from Asia. I think they are super practical, sometimes you just need a small truck/van for occasional loads and chores, but also perfect for camping and traveling with a bunch of stuff... Just cool, quirky, without being a GIGANTIC gas guzzler that is hard to drive and park. One of these and a "lifestyle" coupe or sports car, and all of your automotive needs are covered, the comfy sleek car you like to be seen in , and a little swiss army knife TOOL for certain jobs. Great!

Basically its a van version of a Pajero/Montero

What a gorgeous machine.

I can't believe these aren't being imported by the thousands and converted into small efficiency campers, such great space utilization, and "van life" and single camping while travelling is such a trend, how PERFECT would this one be with the awesome roof and great diesel engine and ease of driving? PLUS 4 wd for those more rustic national parks, mountain passes and back roads... Bring it one!

Aux gauges are the same as the montero and montero sport. Lots of parts of these are available from the montero sport iirc.

90s JDM vans are some of the coolest vehicles ever made. I want one so bad, but unfortunately it's almost impossible to legally register non EU imports in my country, plus nobody even imports them anyway. I'd have to go all the way to the UK to get one then bring it home only to not be able to register it. This sucks

In the U.S. in 1996, the Chrysler T&C was the cream of the crop for minivans. The configuration is odd and its proportions are a bit homely, but the Delica had so many features not available in the T&C.

This minivan should have been offered in the United States. Probably wouldn't have gotten the turbodiesel but one with a Mitsubishi-made V6 would have been an interesting challenger to the Chrysler minivans and other minivans.
@DILPimentel13 күн бұрын
it shares the same platform as the montero / pajero of the same era, so it has that offroad capability going with it

These may not be quite as iconic as the L300 Delica but they're more powerful and drive better. I saw one of these on the road in Pennsylvania a few years ago and thought it was awesome. I love the silly names JDM cars have. This is the perfect bridge between minivans and SUVs. So many cool features.

What is the thing attached to the rear window? Looks like a mirror on an arm... is it to see behind and down from the driver's seat main rear view mirror? Weird choice, can't see that being a regularly necessary thing, and I'm sure makes a wild whistling noise at speed!

Why didn't Mitsubishi try to sold these in the US back when minivans was a new thing this could sold because no one else was doing an off-road like minivan, and this could be slotted in the middle if you want a suv capability but like the convenience of a van.
@johnnymason246014 күн бұрын
I agree with you. The Delica Space Gear minivan could have been a trendsetter here. An off-road capable minivan could have had a cult following here in America.
