This is really interesting, I loved the intro, the build up with the different instruments coming in was really impressive. It was definitely a sad song, and his voice fitted the song in my opinion. I liked it.

@kimr3729 Hey Kim, Yes the intro was great, a lot longer than most but I enjoyed it. He has a fab voice...so unique and he filled this song with a lot of passion 🤩💗

Hi Sue, I'm glad that you found such a great video for this song. The match up of Vince Clarke & Feral Sharkey is magic. As far as I am aware, the single was the only thing they recorded and issued. Shortly after this, Yazoo were formed. I'm delighted that you enjoyed it, this very sad song.

This was the only single they released. Vince did some other stuff before Erasure, while Fergal released his first solo single, Listen To Your Father, in late 1984 or early 1985, the song was written by a member of Madness, who recorded the music for the song, and it was the first single released on the record label that Madness had just set up, Zarjazz Records.

I loved this song when I was 13-14 years old. It fits us swedes with this melancolic lyrics, even in postABBA-era. Great comments as usual Sue!

@niklasherneryd4754 Hi Niklas, it definitely has sime melancholic lyrics for sure and I think at the time, it would have definitely resonated with 14 year olds trying to find their way. So glad you enjoyed this one 🤗

@@playitagainsue I wonder if they got the inspiration from ABBA maybe. Song like When All Is Said And Done, The Day Before You Came and One Of Us came a year or two before this one I think. If comparing its interesting Depeche Mode (about Vince then) also changed to a kind of darker music in the later part of their era, like ABBA did.

A fine song for sure 👍.. Very melancholy, but also very lovely .. Feargal's emotional vocals perfectly compliment the ultra sad and resigned lyrics and the beautifully reflective melody and instrumentation... Strange that with such a strong song, The Assembly didn't do anything else after this .. But I guess with Vince's subsequent career, he's not losing any sleep over it.

@wayne_twentyfive For sure, Wayne! Feargal performed this with so much passion and emotion and I believed every word that he sang that he truly meant it...so well performed....beautiful song. Yes Vince is definitely not hurting from this band only doing one album. I think he has done very well for himself 🤩💜

@@playitagainsue From the bit on Wiki that I read Sue, it wasn't even one album .. It was just this one single that The Assembly released .. They had planned to do an album, which was to have featured different lead vocalists for each track .. But they only actually made this single ( "Never Never" backed with an instrumental called "Stop/Start" on the B Side ) and then called it quits for some reason.

Think I was preteen here in Sweden as this charted I had a crush on a girl in my class, but it was not mutual This song became the soundtrack of that summer and that feeling of unanswered love

This was an interesting pick I had a real hard time with leaving Undertones ; I didn’t want them to end but out of the ruins of Undertones came That Petrol Emotion which were a brilliant band Big Decision of TPE album Babble is a great song The instrument looks like an Autoharp or some kind of keyed dulcimer but that not what I hear so it might be just for visual effect ( I might be wrong )
