Just adding my half pence worth, I always make sure i can undo the filler plugs in diffs , axels, gearboxes etc before draining, just to make sure i will be able to re fill them.
@BritannicaRestorations
@BritannicaRestorations 5 жыл бұрын
Only issue i have ever had with the fillers was on Polish 110 300Tdi - the Torx was rounded out so I had to pull the floor plates and weld a nut on to get it off

For the engine oil drain it’s easy to just cut the bottom of a 2 litre milk bottle , cur down the side to fit. Oil flows into the bottle and straight down into the oil drain pan , no mess.

I'm so relieved even YOU struggle greasing the UJs so it's not just me :-) An hour of watching oil drain - as soothing as watching paint dry but much more instructive :)

I've got an '86 Beddy, and fleet maintenance worked out great for her. I got her when the water pump died. Fixed it + doubled the millage. ;-) Then the head gasket died under MOT. Been fighting it ever since. Nearly got it; she's legal again, just need the right v-belt... :-D

A Yorkshire man chucking good oil away, BLOODY HELL Mike. You should have drained that 80/90 gear oil and ATF into old milk bottles and left them on a window sill for 6 months to let any solids settle, then drained them thru a rag to re-use it. You had better watch what you are doing or you will never be let back into Yorkshire, Other than that, a great video. Best wishes from Yorkshire Rob.

that was a long instructive video, Mike. I've just bought a 35-year-old Land Rover 109'' Santana, of the ones built in Spain in 1984. and I'll be doing all the brakes and fluids to get the vehicle inspection test.

Interesting truck the Santana - not seen one here, but I know of some who wanted a cheaper Defender - very hard to find parts here - not quite the same as LR's

I have fitted an oil drain valve to the sump of my Defender which makes changing the engine oil very clean and easy. Well worthwhile. The vehicle in this video badly needs anti-corrosion treatment underneath. Also the silencer needs to be rotated because it's currently the low point and is likely to get bashed when off roading.

Hey mike i was sick of pushing popping ripping grease gun off i just bought a needle adapter and only push down th ball valve. I got it because i had trouble reaching grease nipple on front propshaft. Its a delight to use. Also i only use lithium grease as any other red blue grease is too thick and dried, got thick. If having trouble pumping grease through all 4 caps i use a hammer and tap the caps seems hardy spicer recommended it to unstick the cap seals.

You have to love remote filters! As for MoD vehicle maintenance, it could be a little hit and miss, but generally they were very well looked after (though Army stuff was always badly dented and painted with wooden spoons) - it’s the abuse and neglect they suffered after being sold off that is the problem; it’s the civvies that kill Land Rovers!

Thats rubbish. I've seen REME burger up just about everything. Rounded off bolts and fittings, bodge repairs and a Ferret with its B60 removed, but instead of unplugging everything they decided just to slice through the loom.

So if you take a shim out the top, will it take the slack/wobble out the top pin? Thanks from Texas. Love the videos Mike.
@BritannicaRestorations
@BritannicaRestorations 5 жыл бұрын
Yes in a way - this is why i didn't do them as I was not instructed The bush is worn on the sides usually and therefore lose, by taking a shim out increases the preload and therefore takes out the play, but the bush is still lose - gets you through inspection but is not right

Britannica Restorations Ltd I asked about why the diesel won’t bleed any further than the pump bleed screw. You suggested a broken shaft inside the pump, but not how I can confirm that this is the problem without removing the pump. Can it be the solenoid? Do they ever stick? I removed it and applied 12 volts across it and the piston moved DOWN. Shouldn’t it move UP?
@BritannicaRestorations

Did you get the polarity right? Can you fit the solenoid without the plunger and try it? You will have to stall to stop it
