Wow, I have been suffering for years. Yesterday I shared about my pain online and a massagw Therapist told me that I might have TOS syndrome. When I go to sleep at night my arms, fall asleep, ache and I get shooting pains, mostly in my hands. The crazy thing is that it still hurts if I’m laying flat on my back with no pillow. Sometimes I have to sleep sitting up. They also go numb when I am doing computer work Last night in bed, it was happening again, so I massage my peck and shoulder area with a hand massager and it helped a lot! It’s very tender in there. I have you’ve helped me understand the problem and I’m definitely going to sign up for your course so I can get rid of this pain for good! Thank you!

This is excellent, if its possible i would like to speak to you on this subject, i started 2 years ago to fix my posture, i developed TOS on the way to "normal", my pec-minor is so tight that it dislocates my ribs from stern, in my case the hip was not sitting correctly and my body was trying to adjust that deformation by lowering all my bones on the left side ( if it makes any sense ), once i`ve strenghten my core and re-aligned my hips, 90% of pain was away, though it took 2 years for me to realise, tons of doctors and therapyes. Good luck everyone out here suffering from such a condition, please believe in you and NEVER STOP EXERCISE, is the only way out!
@TrainandMassage
@TrainandMassage Жыл бұрын
That’s great that you were able to improve your pain by working on your core. The body is connected from top to bottom. My theory here is that it was the lateral fascia lines that created tension on the hips and ribs to your left side.

You are so correct. May I ask what type of exercises did you do? I have issues both upper and lower. I know mines related to muscular imbalances weaknesses. I am trying to also realign my body. I have slight scoliosis, but the scoliosis PT said in her opinion that I don’t have true scoliosis it’s all coming from my hips being misaligned, unfortunately now I have all the upper body stuff and with seemingly feels like TOS . I went out of state to see this lady because she’s a scoliosis expert. Just trying to find an experienced PT which should be easy. I’ve already seen six or seven and no one has even mentioned scoliosis or misalignment so frustrating as I sit here and get worse and I know movement and strengthening is the key, I’m sure there’s a protocol because every time I do it something , something else hurts. Glad you fixed yourself.

t makes sense. I keep telling everyone that I feel that my left side is being pulled downward, from neck to hips. My ribs on a 3d reconstructed ct scan show my left ribs being narrower, my scapula’s aren’t aligned, left is lower, my pecs, scalenes are tight as heck,very dense. My upper traps/levator are doing the work of my shoulder muscles creating cervical issues. No one has a clue. It feels as though my left side is overstretched and my right dominant side has just taken over. PRI has alot of info on this, very interesting, Neal Hallihan. All of this and I now after 3 years I believe it’s been my hips all along. It’s also creating a scoliosis type of affect. I finally saw a specialist (out of state) who she herself has scoliosis and who works with helping scoliosis patients being referred by doctors. She took one look at me even before I opened my mouth and said what’s wrong with your hips. She believed I do not have a true scoli, I have a rotated pelvis. Doctor’s are useless when it comes to muscular issues and misalignments etc. at least in my case. I have always believed exercise/strengthening certain muscles even though they work in tandem w/each other is the way to go to fix misalignments. It’s a process I will never give up trying to find the root cause. In the meantime, it’s causing other issues like TOS , slipped rib, full tears in supraspinatus tendons and impingement, scoli . Glad you were able to become 90% .

All the tests triggered tingling in my TOS sided arm. I've been having this for almost 2 years. Some improvement with physio, and exercises, but not major. Actually tai chi was the best until now. It helped more than my PT. I still can't stop my medication. How I discovered that something is really wrong. That my hand was swelling with movements, and changes color. I had pain in my subclavian area and chest. I just touched that area with my hand and my hand on the same side turned instantly red and swollen, so I realized that the area of compression is there. So when I move my arms (any repetitive motion) triggers my symptoms. My PT was the only one who recognized TOS. I have both scalene and SCM problems.

I noticed that my pain is relieved when I am doing overhead squats (light weights are best). I think it is because to get in the right position (shoulders back and wide, elbows pointing straight down, arms completely extended) you need to have a lot of flexibility everywhere in the shoulder. I still can’t do a full squat without my elbows turning back, but there is progress and the pain is getting better. I also release the neck and shouldermuscles with massaging

Great easy to follow video. I have a couple of questions. I started getting painful nerve issues in my left arm approx 4weeks ago. Bit of background,the humerous has a 24yr ol spiral fracture, from just below the outer humerous head with a bone fragment chipped off to the elbow joint. Yes, ouch!! It was left to calcify with a weighted plaster of Paris cast from shoulder to wrist due to risk of elbow mobility loss if it was pinned or plated. Needless to say, there is nerve damage there,the radial nerve being most damaged and I have restricted supnation in that arm. I also get bursitis in that shoulder joint. But the pain i was getting,has now eased to a constant numbness in thumb and first 2 fingers with TOS exercises. My right hand gets very mild symptoms at times, though this could be physcological. I have, until the past 2years, been a lifelong horse rider and posture and shoulder strength have always been great. I have lost strength since not riding and getting a partial supraspinatus tear in yhe right shoulder. All injuries are horse related, hence hanging up the helmet lol!!! Any thoughts on the likelihood of TOS in yhe left arm? Or should I be getting this scanned?

If your scapula is "winged"/dysfunctional, I guess it can cause collapse of the whole area around the brachial plexus, causing TOS (according to this doctor, who's name escapes me ATM). My husband has TOS in both arms, and he has symptoms while his arms are at rest. They did a CT scan with his arms raised and saw some arterial compression between the first rib and collarbone. He has muscle wasting/atrophy in the fleshy base of his thumbs, which happened rapidly over the course of a month and it still happening. PT isn't doing anything, and his damn doctor just sent a referral to the wrong specialist (we are pretty rural, so not to many options for doctors). I wish you luck with your journey to alleviate symptoms.

Hey, I've been following your videos for a while and I've learned a lot. Could you make a video on upper trap dominance, and how to correct it? I found that my upper traps are not letting me retract my scapulas properly, and my winged scapula probably has to do with the massive imbalance between my upper and lower traps.

After surgeries on both sides, I still have pain and weakness on 1 side after 1 year. I know after an Emg that the cubital nerve is slightly attraped, but my surgeon insists on the tension of the muscle. I still have pain in both hands, but the Emg didn't detect anything. No TOS pain, but have slight hand tingling (thumb side) and 5-10 degree temperature differential in right hand (relative to left) in some arm positions ("using the mouse" is a bad one, but standing w/arm at side, much better - shoulder/humerus position not that different between the 2?). GP said "no bad lumps, probably TOS." Chiro said "return brachial pulse was low." Sounds like something is compressing brachial artery on the right, but neither of these tests told me what was in play. I've been stretching pec minor/major for several weeks w/o change, and no noticed tender areas on self-massage. Anything else I can look at to pin down the muscle(s) to focus on to restore full blood flow? Thanks for the info in your videos - just need the next step on this one.

Is TOS always accompanied by shoulder pain specifically? I have had what was diagnosed as bilateral chronic tendinitis almost 10 years ago -- even way back then the presentation seemed to have some consistencies with TOS but the doctor hand-waved that away when I brought it up. When I perform test #1 here, after about 20 seconds whichever arm I'm testing becomes numb and starts tingling. When I drop my arm I feel a rush of warmth to my arm as the symptoms subside. Would that be considered a positive test even though there's no shoulder pain?

Thanks for the TOS help. After spending years on my SCM and traps for migraines and TMJD. I started to notice my TOS got way worse. My thoracic spine was messed up and my first ribs were not right. That helped a lot after my osteopath adjusted. I could do shrugs pain free. Along with proper head posture. . I’ve been doing PT. I think bath my scalene and pec minor aren’t functioning right still. I can’t even get my left hand flat on the bad side on the wall. I also had an alar ligament injury in my upper cervical spine around same time this all started and all my muscles got out of whack compensating. My left side of neck froze for over a year until PT. It’s been near impossible to find someone in Oklahoma that is able to piece it all together on what is causing what. Is the neck and jaw causing the TOS or is the TOS radiating it upward.

I keep running I to a problem. When I try to massage my scalenes I get pain shooting down my arm for a minute, semi dizzy and my tinnitus gets loud. How can I do this if there is blood vessels involved? . Also can an elevated first rib be the reason why my scapula pops when I roll my shoulders? On my worst side (left) it just feels like my scapula is not moving correctly, has limited movement and gets spastic (although that may be the rhomboid) which worsens my symptoms. This kinda sucks. Hoping this hydrodissection gives me some relief to then be able to do the stretches and excersizes without flaring up or further compressing my nerves. Any feedback would be great!

Theres a lot of nerves and blood vessels around the scalenes. So, you can start by applying less pressure. You can also try to move a bit to the left or right when you begin to feel it. You can also try to hold that pressure for a bit to see what the pain does. It might begin to go away after a little while. A nerve will make the pores and worse.

Stop tensing it lol. One of your biceps attach to your scapula, which when you contract may create tension and compress on the nerves and blood vessels. @@TrainandMassage haha I cant stop flexing my 💪 . I've stretched out and now i don't get any symptoms when tensing my biceps. The only way I can bring on the symptoms now is pressing my arm against a wall using the same positions and movements as an arm wrestler. I'm guessing its still the bicep that's pulling on the scapular, any thoughts on why this is and what's causing this issue so i prevent this? Im starting to get the bigger picture, thanks for your vids and communication helping through this 😄 its such a misunderstood area.

Sounds like internal rotation is also an issue and needs to be worked. Maybe the rotator cuff muscles need to be released. Don’t forget to strengthen the back muscles as well like the external rotators. Take it easy but stay consistent and see how it feels in a few days. I’m glad you’re slowly getting better and better results.

I have possible TOS. My physio at the time believed I do have it. I now have according to mri impingement both shoulders and a supraspinatus tear both shoulders. I have very tight scalenes/scm on right side though no pain. Pain is all on my left. In one of your videos I believe you mentioned if you are having trouble determining where (which side) the issue is to feel which side is denser/thicker than the other and that would be the side where the issue is which makes sense. So my painful side possibly isn’t the side w/the pain it’s the more denser/thicker side b/c it’s protecting possibly a weaker muscle. My issue is now also convoluted b/c of the tear and impingement. I have a forward rounded left shoulder. I was wondering these massages your showing should still help with impingement b/c they’re also involved with TOS(scalenes) and should I work more on the opposite( right) b/c those muscles are extremely thick. Do you some what agree? Thank you

Sadly its hard to figure that out from here. I would just try to massage out the thicker side and see if that helps or not, only one way to truly know right?

It can be an issue, with the fascia and muscles of course. Definitely keep workouts on your top of mind.

Hm I don’t think I have TOS after taking these tests. I use my arms a lot for work and for golf. Your other videos helped me get relief from pain I have in both my shoulders and around my right peck. Maybe just old injuries and repetitive tasks adding up.

Can TOS mimic ulnar nerve entrapment? I was diagnosed with bilateral ulnar nerve entrapment and bilateral golfer's elbow. The muscles on the inside of my forearm get really tight and painful when I work with my hands or just use my phone for too long. I also get neck pain and pain in the back of my shoulder sometimes. Sometimes I get numbness in my hands but not as often. MRI of cervical spine shows mild foraminal stenosis in neck but dr. said it's not enough to cause symptoms. I tried the overhead bent elbow thing and it made my whole ulnar nerve (at least i think thats what it was) start hurting. Either way these videos are interesting. Subscribed.

Short answer , I believe yes. An MRI wouldn’t show it because they most likely don’t put you in the compromising position with your elbow over your head. That position will create the compression unlike your arm to your side.

Ive noticed that pressing a few trigger points in my inner SCM improves my tinnitus like 80%. Whats the deal with this? Besides 'deactivating' trigger points, shouldn't I sthrengten my neck muscles? Anyways, love your YT channel
