Thank you so much for making this video. I have a 2003 liberty and had to replace this switch. I truly appreciate that you showed the easy way instead of tearing the console apart and cut right to the chase. You turned a possible nightmare into 5 minute job and didn't make an annoying video. Only video I seen not taking out the 4x4 shaft or center console . I did mine with vise grips. But same, part time light on all times and in 4 hi it goes away and no light for the 4x4 until i go into low.

So i have a 2005 Jeep Libo Renegade and recently my 4x4 shiftier has slipped. Im sure its the bushing and connector that slipped off the linkage. Ive taken the center console off and everything is intact on the lever side) when i pull up, there is ZERO tension/resistance. in your dealings with the switch did you notice if the linkage was on the same side? IM trying to do the repair myself but have not found a proper vid/diagram of even WERE the linkage IS! Any assistance you could provide would be appreciated! Thank you.

Tremor Wolf I do believe that on Wranglers, the linkage is up on top or around the transfer case. Take a look there.

the linkage is near the sensor, you can take apart the center console, them remove the 4 screws from the lever and pull up and a side and you fill see the other end of the laver near the sensor and the lever in the trasnfer case were you put the cable, tha cable doesnt have a secure pin or anything like that just the cable, you can figure out something to secure the cable to the transfer if you want.

No-Just the electrical connector that sits up on top. Squeeze the sides of the connector housing to release it. You may want to push down then up on the connector housing to help get off stubborn connectors. Good luck!

I know this video is kinda old but would a bad transfer case switch cause the transmission to act funny or slip. Because that part time light comes on when I have any issues. I'm probably gonna replace the switch anyway. I was just wondering thank you.

I'm thinking no, but I'm not 100%. Maybe cruise some Jeep liberty forums and see if anyone has shared similar problems as you. My daughter's transmission didn't act out of the normal when the light was on. The light came on when she engaged the 4 x 4 for off roading and then acted funky afterwards: part time light on in 2wd and off in 4wd; the switch was just faulty but the transmission was acting normal otherwise. The switch buttons are junk and many go out at 80-100k. She had 55k on her Jeep when it would not switch back and the light came on-but then again the Jeep was around 15 years old. so time, not mileage, got the part. Best of luck with everything.

I was picking up my Kid from school yesterday and engine light started flashing and jeep sputtered for a bit code p0839 something with the transfer case or 4x4 I believe, please any help would be greatly appreciated.

If it says “part time” while in 2 wheel drive then transfer case switch may need to be swapped out.

They don't even have part time! WTH! There is 2H,4H,N,4Lo no part time ????? Weird, mine just did it on a 195K liberty a customer gave me.

I've seen some that have part time. my 2004 doesn't but i test drove a 2002 or 2003 that did.
