Not to mention that flat-6 engines, much like I-6 engines, make good low-end torque, which is an unusual feature for motorcycles and is one of the significant contributing factors for the Goldwing being an easy bike to learn to ride on.

After my first bike, I never answered another text or Snapchat or changed a song on my phone while driving again. I know it sounds bad but I had a horrible habit of it. After my first bike, I realized just how damn dangerous it was. I use my headunit if I need to skip. I glance at all three mirrors almost constantly and always pause for motorcycles, much to the disdain of impatient drivers.

I want to confess I took my 2015 Ninja from Wisconsin down to Georgia. That night I slept like a baby. The next day I rode my bike for 15 hours maybe taking an hour brake all together that day. Eating lunch and stopping at some gas stations for fuel. The following day I rode for 14 hours. Going from Georgia to.. North Carolina and TN. That's right you already know what roads I'm talking about.. I love you TOUCH on the things motorcyclists pay attention to. There are paragraphs of missing information but for the general viewers they get an idea. If everyone had to ride at least a scooter for a year before they had their full license. They would a more watchful driver for the rest of their lives.

I have also sinned. I toured Angeles Crest Hwy, Sequoia National Forest, and visited a friend in Fresno before returning to San Diego on a Ninja 300. Three 300-350 mile days. I planned that length because everyone told me how exhausted I would be, especially on my little bike. TBH I could have gone further each day. Rode 2 1/2 hours through LA to oceanside with some traffic in one stint. If the bike had a slightly better seat I wouldn't have much to complain about. Legs get a little stiff but can be stretched on the bike. My feeling is one can tour on any bike. (Although the Goldwing has more appeal to me now that I've tasted vast open highways.) We are so spoiled on our motorbikes, the road bicycles I've toured 1000s of miles on make any motorcycle seem a luxury vehicle.

Good Lord you are soooooo right, there is so much more to riding a bike mentally than a car. Most car drivers feel safe and secure in their steel cocoons, where us riders are fully exposed to the world. I won't ride if I feel it fatigued in the least. One last thing I would like to mention. Growing up a friend's father was Die Hard Harley-Davidson, but when he got older and still wanted to ride. He went out and bought a Goldwing.

Being a seasoned rider for decades, having had saddle time in just about every aspect an owning a fair few, by FAR my favorite that I've owned is the one I have now, the Honda F6B. Basically, it's a lower, trimmed down Goldwing, in that it doesn't have a trunk bag, no reverse gear, no cruise control (early ones didn't, newer versions now have it, mine does with a retro-fit), an no adjustable suspension like the full-dress Goldwing. Hells, even the mirrors are the original Goldwing mirrors, but hung upside-down! It really is a lowrider 'Wing. Super plush, stable, quick an quiet, an almost no feeling of being tired after a 500 mile run to Myrtle Beach. After you get over the size intimidation factor, you realize that it's deceptively agile an easier to handle than you would first think. TONS of torque, like that of a diesel truck...the torque is just an endless wave. It doesn't tug you around, it wafts you effortlessly.

Evidently, you have never ridden a Goldwing 1800. You feel like you're riding a sport bike. For the 2001 model redesign, the first year for the 1800, who did Honda pick to head the project? They tapped the head of Honda's motorcycle road racing, a 250cc Grand Prix technician, whose task was to make it more sporty. The 1800 corners incredibly.

Excellent video. You're not joking Mr. Regular; I rode a Ninja 636 several hours across the state once. PAAAAAAIINNNNN. Also, whoever's reading this, go to your nearest BMW motorcycle dealer and test ride the K1600GT. It's pretty much BMW's version of this, but instead of a flat-6, it's a 1600cc inline-6, and OH BOY does it sound good. It sounds like if you mixed an E46 M3 with an F1 car (the last generation). Plus, you don't ever feel the slightest bit of vibration from the engine.

You are quite the weaklings... Maybe it is because I started going all-offroad from ages 6 to 17 but, yeah, I can travel for miles and miles on a motorbike without much pain. Of course a grand tourer is more comfortable but one of those "naked bikes with fairings" are good enough to cover 300-400 miles per day. Here is one of my last trips before having to sell my bike: · Barcelona-Tomelloso= thursday evening-night after working for 8h · Tomelloso-Jerez = friday morning, arrived late to watch the final practice sessions · Jerez = saturday and sunday all about MotoGp and other side activities · Jerez-Tomelloso = sunday afternoon-evening · Tomelloso-Barcelona = monday morning then worked the night shift 1250 miles in 4 stages. I could've been comfortable but it was 100% doable. I saw some folks doing the same route with stuff like CBR1100XX and even some crazy guy with a goddamn 2-stroke sportsbike (Yamaha RD350) from the 80s.

The 1500 Valkyrie had a different engine set up... it was a honda gl1500 engine and trans, but it had different ignition timing and six carbs instead of two. (the Gl1500 goldwing only had two carbs). The exhaust was also different and I *think* it had hotter cams. They are just nasty sounding bikes. The Ugly one you are referring to is the Valkyrie rune.... It was based off the gl1800. Other bikes, not quite a Goldwing but is a goldwing is the FB6 (it's a gl1800 goldwing without the trunk and a cut down windshield and not as many options)

After riding my Ninja 250 for more than an hour and a half, I didn't want to get back on it for at least a week. That is when I finally started to understand why people love cruisers with big windshields, heated grips, and cushy seats.

Wow, great review and on point when describing how you must pay attention to so many things when riding. It is very much more demanding than driving a car. This motorcycle has stood the test of time and deserves it's place in history. Honda has done a great job.

Dragunov302 Why would you say that? I'm merely pointing out a simple fact. The Goldwing is a Japanese bike, hence it wouldn't be a 7 series beamer on 2 wheels. It would be a Acura RLX on 2 wheels. The top of the line BMW motorcycle would be a 7 series on wheels.

Wow! This is the most complete and fair assessment of the Goldwing I've ever viewed. I've owned a 96' GL1500, four trips from California to Alabama and back. An 01' GL 1800 and currently the 15' F6B. That's 22 years and countless miles on a Wing, so I'm uniquely qualified to comment. Gunny J. OUT!

My dad is on his second Goldwing (First a GL1500 ANNIVERSARY Edition) and now a GL1800, and they're definitely sweet bikes. You couldn't be more right about how deceptively quick they are, damn they have no right to hustle like they do. But I disagree that they're made for cruising at 100. They only have a 5 speed transmission, and man they run high revs on anything over 70-80. (Also the GL1500 was still carburated into the 90s).

Great review and you nailed every point about fatigue and watching traffic that exist. I owned a Suzuki C-109-RT their huge bagger with a 1800cc V-Twin and road that for about a year. Took that sucker from Daytona to Key West in one day and OH my gawd I was exhausted after those many hours on I-95 then US-1. But nearly was run over one to many times here in the Retirement State and sold the bike frustrated at the idiots on the road that ruined my hobby.

Great video. I own a 1998 gold wing and have been riding bikes for over 30 years. I have ridden 50 cc all the way up to the 1500, Honda, harley, Yamaha, Suzuki and will agree, gold wing and Honda for that matter are head and shoulders better than the competition. When you speak over dangers and fatigue, it is expressed from a seasoned rider as no other inexperienced rider could truly, realistically comprehend what you are describing. Tremendous video my friend. I found it thoroughly entertaining.

Excellent review. I worked with a master technician at a powersports dealership who specialized in Goldwings. He described them as the ''Cadillac'' of motorcycles, one of the best motorcycles you could get. They would only have a major breakdown due to, 14 out of 15 times, the owner not taking care of it. Even then the bike will keep going until the engine explodes. We had a guy who brought his Wing saying the engine was making a loud noise. When we checked it out we discovered that the owner had ran super shitty fuel through the system that caused the valves to develop a lacquer, and were not working right. The valves were even kissing the pistons, already causing damage, but that bike kept going. Cost the guy $3k for a valve repair on the LEFT 3 cylinders, because he ran really old fuel through it. Again great review, as soon as I saw this in my feed I tapped it. Keep up the great work!

Explaining a goldwing to people who don't like them is a waste of time, kinda like trying to explain to Harley riders that other brands exist(and some do it better), and telling a BMW owner what the turn signal is(I'm a bmw owner). Exercises in frustration all of them. Dad has had 2 86 gl1200 aspencades, he's older, and it's just a comfy ride for him and mom. Me? I like weird things...maxims and round case ducatis...moto guzzis...urals...you know....weird things.

I rode in the sidecar of a gl1500 from Phoenixville PA to Disney world once when I was 5 with my dad. Great memory. He used to tour these things around the continental US for years with my mom on the back for a lot of it. Hundreds of thousands of miles logged. They would do consecutive 500+ mile days and not even break a sweat. I’m 20 now and this bike got me into riding.

Outstanding recap / overview of . . . The Goldwing. Just, just . . . JUST bought a 2007 Metallic Black Honda Goldwing. Started with a Honda 50 mini-bike in 1975. Got a 1982 Yamaha 650 Seca out of the box in 1985. Road that HARD in Germany for 3 years. GOD saved my life 3 times there. Then in 2006, got a Honda PC 800 . . . fun bike, smooth. On to a 2003 Honda ST1300 in 2007 . . . fast, really fast. Smooth. Electronic windshield. ALL Wings should have had this. Now a Goldwing. I am shocked at HOW Smooth this is. And how Powerful it is. And how amazingly Comfortable it is. Just. LOVE. It!! My wife loves the back seat too. PSM16 is our license plate . . . much to be thankful for! God-Speed to all you who RIDE.
