One more quick question when you did the initial start up after the headgasket replacement. Did the car sound really loud? Also did it run like crap for a bit?

You didn't mention if you machined the head gasket mating surface to ensure it doesn't fail again

I have 09 corolla 1.8 with 125k, hard to start sometimes, runs rough after it runs a while, losing compression, not running hot, failed leakdown test at 3 and 4, no oil in radiator so doing this same job soon. Thank you for the video

This made no sense why wouldn’t you had put the camera view under the hood . Plus there was a lot of mumbling. Although I learned a good bit .

Hey guys, great video. I know its been a while, but after you took your head bolts out and removed the exhaust bolts what did you used to get the head off? It being aluminum makes me nervous to pry at all.

We took our time and carefully pryed it off.

I got mine, just slowly putting it all back together while making sure it's all clean. This is on my 09 pontiac vibe but it's the same as the matrix.

from what ive read online this engine should have been recalled. ive taken mine to Toyota and they said it was fine to drive. yeah right. 180k i have a misfire on 4 and im thinking best case scenario it needs a new head gasket. ive also read that the cheaped out on the piston rings on this engine. i guess i should look up how to replace those too

Hello. I was wondering about the tool for the head bolt. I have read only use bi-hex and NOT to use a tri- square. I can't find the tool. What did you use for reassembly. Thanks

I used a triple square - no problems for me and reused head bolts

@@dleef911 Head bolts act like springs.... hence the 90' and 45' subsequent torques. Used head bolts won't have the elasticity and "spring" like torque and will result in a shorter life for your head gasket. NEVER cheap out on head bolts.
