2:56 Ford returned to RWD with the 2020 Explorer-based Police Interceptor Utility. 3:11 Dodge introduced an AWD Charger Pursuit for 2014 and Chevrolet introduced a 4x4 version of the Tahoe PPV for 2014.

The Crown Vic was a reliable platform. Ford built millions of them and so parts are easily accessed and repairs are easily done. The only thing I would have changed was the transmission and the engine. The 4 speed automatic was outdated and the engine wasn't putting out enough power.

The reason behind the engine always running is the chance that if they turn it off and need to start it again, it will not start. This has happened MANY times in the past, and is the reason why it is what it is today.
@GFo12ce12 жыл бұрын
The onboard computer used to get dispatched calls/run people in the field for wants/warrants, and the radio equipment would drain the battery if the engine was left off too long. For traffic lights sure but for every other time no.

I live in Youngstown ohio and I can accurately say that both the Ford Police Interceptor Sedan & Utility are slowly but surely taking over the patrolling for local agencies. But for the Ohio State Patrol it is now the Dodge Charger Police Pursuit vehicle and the Chevrolet Tahoe Police Patrol Vehicle. I'm yet to see a Chevrolet Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle on the road around Youngstown. Maybe later on toward the end of the year we will see the Caprice.

I may not undertand what your saying, but the cruisers have to be running constantly while in use for all the computer/servers/radio's to function. A. If shut many systems that would have to be restarted when turned back on, and B. With all the electronics, if the car were shut off the battery would be dead in minutes.

The new V6's are Twin-TruboCharged as an option and gets over 100HP more than the V8 in the Crown Vic
@Zack741210 жыл бұрын
I drove a couple of these cars and there are alright. The crown Victoria has always been my favorite but my personal opinion between the crown Victoria in the new Ford Taurus police interceptor from what I've noticed the Crown Vichas better throttle response and faster take off while the Taurus will over rev trying cover the same distance that the Crown Vic would do with less RPM. That's just my observation but overall the new tors or supper is a nice vehicle just there some things that could be improved.

I live in Springfield Ma, and I would more or less concur, although we have WAY more interceptor SUV's than sedans. I've seen about ten sedans and countless utilities, including by the MA state police who are switching to exclusively the utility to replace the Vic. Chargers are a close second, with my town and many others, including the NH state police switching over to them. I have seen a grand total of...drum roll...one Chevrolet Caprice.

Well the problem with that is these car have a lot of equipement like the computer and the radio and those need a lot of power so you cannot keep them on without drawning the batterie quickly . If you turn the computer off , it take time before it reopen. In fact a stop/start need something to recharge the batterie more eff like with braking heat like on BMW cars .

The Crown Vic. is an already reliable platform that has been so widely liked and used by cabs, police, and limo's (Town Car) for years now. why take the gamble and risk losing the majority market. just like how chevy screwed up with the Caprice in the 90's? now look at them trying to bring back that car. Hell the Crown Vic. had such a nice look to it, such a shame to see it gone.

Because constantly tuning on and off the engine adds wear and tear to it. It's cheaper to pay for gas than an engine in the long run.

The crown vic defined the cop car world for two decades. I personally loved it, but if you look closely its simplicity was its downfall. We need these new cop cars in this vid. The crown vic will go down in history for sure, but it unfortunately dosent have a place in the future..

The fact that you have so many disagrees show the ignorance that most people have when it comes to police vehicles. They idle so they can continue running all the electronics that have to be constantly running in the vehicle to do their jobs.

Cops need RWD 300+ hp hybrids with solar powered AC since they idle in start stop traffic most of the time and sit it the sun for speed traps. Too bad the only car out there like this is a Lexus GS450 hybrid.
