Camshaft failures, lifter failures, cylinder gaskets pre-maturely wearing out due to lack of oil during re-activation in cylinder head. I'm only referring to the issues GM has had. This is why I bought a Tundra...or at least one of the many reasons.

Yep, after owning a couple of Fords, including one with the older 460 engine, my Tundra has now given me 9 years of service without a single problem. Cannot say the same for the Fords which broke down regularly. I will not be watching these guys videos again since reliability is what determines my purchases. BTW, I have pulled an 8000 lb TT these entire 9 years averaging 9.5 mpg

Man all you viewers need to reevaluate how you see trucks. Y'all act like the 5.7 is a motor from the 1990s, it still one of the most modern engines you can get with dual variable valve timing, dual overhead cams, and 32 valves. Everyone just bitches that it doesn't have better MPGs, well guess what, its a truck, it aint meant to have great gas mileage, you want gas mileage, go get a crossover. Can't afford the gas for a truck...then don't get a truck as a daily driver. I applaud Toyota for sticking to the truck formula that it seems like others are starting to deviate away from. They dont use expensive to fix aluminum, they have proper truck axle gearing and a 10.5 inch rear end, no direct injection that causes smoking on start ups (ecotec3) or grille shutters that can break and will cost a pretty penny to fix or a useless hockey puck shifter (ram) The Tundra is a simple tried and true truck that doesn't have all these bs features that can cause more problems down the road. And I just can't believe people are still shocked to see how low the mpg is after going full throttle up a steep grade while towing. And y'all at TFL truck need to stop harping on the age of the Tundra, does it drive like an old truck? Does it tow like an old truck? Does it feel like an old truck? The Tundra was way ahead of its time when it was redesigned in 07 and it just now facing tough competition from the domestics. The videos you guys put on the Tundra never change, like when you did the gauntlet with the old body style stating how it feels old and looks old, then when it gets redesigned we hear well it looks old and feels old, there is no pleasing you guys.

My father was a avid ford owner since I was a kid. I watched him pour thousands of dollars in keeping them running. Then he bought a 2004 tundra 4x4. 272k miles later never a hick up. And this is compared to 7 different ford's he had. I would say there really isn't comparison. I'm not saying ford's are bad trucks just not what everybody thinks they are. Fit and finish, quality of build, reliability, resale. All belong to Toyota.

Toyota builds a solid truck and sells all they can manufacture, but I would expect any truck I buy today to match the quarter million trouble free miles of the F150 in my driveway.

I'm 19 bought my first & dream truck a couple months before turning 19 an 04 DB limited v8 4wd Tundra and man I love it. I got it with almost 293k miles and it's still kickin ass. using it for landscaping. it isn't fast and sure is thirsty lol but I didn't by a 4wd full size truck for fuel economy or speed. I bought it to put in work, be able to explore, & be a little obnoxious with a deep rumble haha. & since owning it in August 2015 I've already put 16k miles on it and that included going from GA to Louisiana and back and then 2 days after that driving it to Guanajuato, Mexico and back no problems all 5 of my family members and my bed pretty full. only thing I did was blow the shock in the back which already had a slow leak. replaced with bilstien HDs and no problems since then. the 4.7L is a solid engine

guy proulx Tundra’s are great trucks but totally overrated. They were the truck to beat a decade ago but now is considered old technology. They don’t invest in their truck line because that’s not their focal point in the auto industry. Even the small 5.3 litre silverado now can beat the Tundra in all aspect. Aerogrow where did you get 310 hp? 5.3 liters are 355 HP and 383 Torque. 5.3 are dyno at 305 hp to the back wheels and tundra have major slip producing only between 309-314 hp. The 2019+ 5.3 is 500lbs lighter than the tundra. So yeah, it’ll beat it in most applications except the specs on paper.

I have 2 Tundras. One is a 2006 4x2 with 452,000 miles. And my work Truck is a 2012 4x4 with the 4.6, 216,000 miles. Both trucks have been problem free. I don’t drive the 06 much anymore but the 12 is daily. I run them hard. Never lets me down

I feel y'all choose the wrong tundra for this, I have an 07 avcs have dual temp settings for AC, and I know the limiteds, platinums, and 1794s have dual auto AC, you also choose a truck with a lift from the factory which gives it a softer suspension, and also comes with the exhaust that y'all say is to loud, and lastly they have tow mirror options, you should be comparing the TRD pro to a raptor or the Dodge equivalent

+390merc65 Interesting I have an 07 with 165k and no issues at all,now not sure where you are, but any vehicle that is 5+ years old and lives up north where the roads are salted will rust especially when the owner doesnt take care of it, the issue with rusted frames were on the older Tacoma's and some tundras, don't belive I have seen one legitimate second gen tundra with frame rust, either way you have turned a logical opinion of mine into a bashing match, go find somewhere else to whine

sean weissinger mine is an '03 and it's still solid as a rock, Ford had a similar recall for rusted frames right around the time Toyota did, and it wasn't the only one either, Ford has a history of rust recalls, no need to look very far, i see fairly new models that are only 4-5 years old already looking like they are 15 years old lol just google "ford past recalls for rust" and you'll see that Ford is far from having their hands clean when it comes to rust issues

My dad had a toyota truck when i was younger. And before that truck he had another truck but that was before my dad got married and had me. Anyway, i remember frequent trips to dealer because something was always going wrong. He did all his fluid changes himself so there was no reason to go to the dealer other than to go get something fixed. Half of the time it wouldnt even start. And when it did, coolant would always fall out. That truck went through 3 radiators. The sunroof also leaked, a lot. Not to mentiom the amount of tear on the seats. Now my uncle had a ford f250 with trinton v10(thirsty engine i might add) and that truck was bulletproof. It never had a problem. I would get one myself but I don't want to pay for that much gas. But he totalled it and got a 2012 tundra. To this day, 5 years later, he still wants his Ford back. Now we havent had a pickup truck since my dad sold the toyota, but we did by a new 2004 GMC yukon a year after he sold the toyota and that thing has also

I'm on my third Toyota. I've never spent a dime on one of them to fix anything, just standard maintenance. I don't call that luck, I call it consistency. I know people are loyal. But do your homework. The numbers don't lie. Local ford dealership has 52 F150s for sale with 10k to 12k discounts just to move them. You never see Toyota have to stoop to sale their trucks. Like I said. Do your research. The numbers don't lie. Just cause they are number 1 in sales does not mean they are the best.

I don't get why they keep ragging on the Tundra's 5.7 motor. The 5.7 has been making north of 380hp 400lb/ft for almost 10 years now. In comparison, Nissan JUST finally updated their motor to 390hp 400lb/ft. Also, the D3 5.7's (or comparable motor of that size) make the same power also. I hate that a lot of car reviewers want new things just for new things sake even when what's available still competes.

I have a tundra and i know the f150 beats it hands down in MPG. I bought mine for a lot of other reasons than MPG as thats only a small part of TCO. The biggest piece of tco is depreciation. My 15 tundra gets the exact same l/100km as my gmc sierra... 5-6 L/100km harder than your 5.0. damn good motors. Wish I could get a 5.0 coyote in a Tundra glyder lol!!

What am I missing? Your testing often boasts of trucks like the ram Hemi that achieved the climb under 8min. That means you either drove faster than 60mph or the speedometer was off. 60mph is 1 mile per minute. 8 miles, 8 minutes.

Damn, that sounds AMAZING!!! The tundra is real thirsty, but my dads was worse. He had an 05 taco 4.0 V6 as well as the manual transmission. He could only match 15 MPG. And I do believe that there is a 4.6 V8 too.

Just wondering, can the engine handle wide open throttle for that long with no damage or overheating? I mean i would be worried to keep the engine revving in that RPM range for more then 30 seconds.

A pickup engine should be designed to handle high RPM for extended periods due to towing, payload etc. As long as the engine is well maintained with all fluids changed at the proper intervals, it should have no problem with the internals holding up. The metal surfaces will of course wear out faster and it will produce large amounts of heat, but, if well designed it should be able to disperse it properly under large torque and high RPM loads without issue. This is one reason why, for instance, the Mustang's radiator for its 5.0 engine is much smaller than the F-150 radiator and the engine is tuned to prevent/balance heat buildup under much different loads versus a performance car.

The domestic manufacturers and Nissan just recently brought their naturally aspirated V8s to 380-400hp, Toyota's been there for over 10yrs now. It's a real truck and not a refined sedan type of truck like it should be and pure reliable. I have an 05 DC tundra and had a dodge DC before, so glad I got the Toyota.

Its squats a lot cause its a TRD Pro meaning it has the TRD Offroad suspension meant for being softer to handle bumps and rocks offroad or on the trails.....if you're buying the tundra for towing your most likely not going get the TRD Pro package with softer suspension, you would get a towing package. As for the TRD Exhaust, if you decide to put it on the tundra that means your not bothered by the loud noise it produces. How can you take points away for those 2 things based on personal opinion?

Thanks for doing the review! I have a 2016 Tundra with the TRD exhaust. It is very annoying when towing up hills. On flat ground its not loud but when you get up to 3000-4000 RPM its LOUD. I agree its a bit dated and thirsty but Toyota reliability is what sold me. I had a 2013 Tundra prior and that was a great truck too.

The reason it squats is necause you have the TRD Pro which has softer progressive rate springs for offroading. The raptor is the same way, softer initial give to soften bumps and landings. Thats why it squats more than a regular tundra would.

My 2016 Silverado's cylinder deactivation systen is what just made my #7 cylinder self distruct at 87k miles, which is apparently REALLY common. I'm going to buy this 2016 Toyota with a supercharger to replace it next week. what good is improved MPG if the engine grenades on you when you're out of town hauling a trailer like I am?

My 2012 Yukon’s cylinder #7 would foul up every 8k miles or so after hitting 100k. I had to disable the AFM. So terrible. That thing stranded my wife multiple times. I couldn’t get rid of it fast enough.

I bought my tundra TRD pro in December 2015, it has 53,000 miles, and blue book value is within $1,500 of what I paid for it almost 9 years later. I’ve never heard one complaint from a tundra owner. Naturally, nothing is perfect, but The newer ford, gmc, etc, seem to be plagued with problems, (NO THANKS). No 1/2 ton is going to get good mileage with a 1/2 ton, towing 9,000 pounds, lol. Maybe the newer tundra turbos, or eco boost but imagine how much gas I could buy for $39,000 to upgrade, lol

To loud? I loved it, but I put Flow-Masters on my truck. Can't rate the volume if the Toyota has performance exhaust and the others don't. Save money and don't get the pipes.
