I traded in my Chrysler 300 for a 2018 SXT last week. Same engine, but for some reason the challenger seems MUCH faster. I've been waiting 13 years to own one, I finally do and I couldn't be happier!

Folks, don't let ANYONE down talk the V6. Most these kinds people are ignorant or trolls with ego's. The engine puts out same if not more power than many V8's from the muscle cars era of the 1970's which are still sought after by enthusiasts. No matter what trim ya get, there's always one gobber that will say "You shoulda got...(insert higher trim here).

Finally, a well said and much needed point on the tiring and unrelenting myriad of needless comments from the V8 drivers. They do nothing but "one up" all the V6 owners, as if drag racing is the only goal that matters.

My mothers car (2010 dodge Avenger with 111788mi) just started to give her problems. So she went to the local dealer to check out a new car. I was expecting a Charger or a 300!, she will only buy a v6, so the Dart is out. I get a phone call a little bit after she left. "Tom, there is a car on the lot that is within the budget, call the insurance and find out the difference for a Charger, or the Challenger!" Next thing I know she's calling back and she told me that she is getting the Challenger SXT. Did I tell you that my mother is 72, and 5'2". The dealer actually talked her out of the Hemi, and the only Hellcat on the lot was used so she didn't want that!!! "It's the little old lady from Pasadena!" Or in my mother's case it the Little Old lady from Philadelphia!!! SXT with black out package!!!!!

Kudos for a very good, honest review of this car. I travel extensively and rent Camaros and Mustangs all the time. However this is my first time in a Challenget because...they are "always the first cars to go" as the Enterprise guys tell me. Although included in the Pony segment thise who review and compare this car to the other Ponys just dont get it. They decry the Dodge for being big and heavy because it yeilds a few points in the performance arena. What they dont ever seem to report is the romminess of the interior and the ride quality of this V6 version. I got a 6.4 0-60 set to sport with TC off...what more could one ask really. Yes the Camaro V6 is faster but it is also cramped and it seems Chevy has forgone the retro look for the half breed transformer look which is very offputting for guys like me who owned many of the original muscle back in the day. The Mustang holds true to its heritage even betted than the Camaro but for the common guy the discontinued V6 version is the better choice...let the tuners have the ecoboost as it is a cumbersome affiar getting it to perform well. I like this Challenger exactly for what most reviewers decry...it is big, it rides nice, it os absolutely quick, and it looks bad ass from every angle.

The 2015 thru 2023 Challengers were supposed to look sinilar to the 1971 Challenger. This is evident by the new front grill. The Challenger SXT with it's Pentastar V/6 gets 305 horsepower but can go from 0-60 in about 6.2 seconds with a top speed of 135. Not bad considering this is a 4,000 pound car.

My buddy bought a 2018 sxt plus about 4 months ago at a great deal. Good things: hella comfortable and surprisingly quick. That 8speed tranny really did this car some good for an almost 3900 lb car. The car reads 6.1 as best 0-60. I did not expect that. Bad thing: too smooth. I know its not a bad thing but it lacks thats sporty feel. I drove it in sport manual mode and while it moved quick it didnt throw me to the back of my seat like my boosted stang does when i drive it in manual mode. If you want to “feel” the shifts, this car doesnt give it (in auto obviously). I agree with most here that it gives you a feel of a sedan with 2 doors. Not sport nor muscle. But overall great car.

Love my 2016 SXT, which I got a heck of a deal on at year end closeout: $2,000 manufacturer rebate, $3,500 dealer discount, plus 0% APR for 60 mos. Yowsa!! Only extra I've got is aftermarket window tint. I get a grin on my face every time I get behind the wheel. The V6 is more than potent enough to make for spirited driving in this very comfortable, great looking ride. For those of you who don't know, the chassis on the Challenger is based on a Mercedes E class (MB owned Chrysler back when the Challenger was designed), so it has that big car, comfy ride on the highway, swallows the miles effortlessly, and feels just as stable cruising at 100 mph as it does at 65. One thing I noticed right away was that the mpg computer always overstates actual mpg. Real world calculation (miles covered divided by gals consumed) has always been less than what the computer says. The good news is that my mpg has continued to improve the more miles I put on. After nearly 18,000 mi, my last two tank fulls gave me 30.7 and 30.1 mpg. I've had zero problems with my Challenger. Total maintenance so far = one oil/filter change. Consumer Reports most recent reliability ratings show a huge jump of 10 spots up the ranking for Chrysler/Dodge reliability, and I can testify to that.

Great video, and I snagged a great deal on a brand new 2019 SXT for just 21K, so I am a happy camper. The power is fine, and thank God Apple CarPlay is now available on all the models as standard. I grew up with the muscle cars of the 60s and early 70s, and the 0 to 60 time and quarter mile times would have been better than most of the classics of that day, so I have no complaints. I got a chuckle about your rant on the foot operated parking brake. That is the way it was back in the day, and they kind of just carried it forward as a nostalgia thing on this muscle car.

I have a 2019 SXT that looks just like the one you drove. It’s awsome, fast, comfortable. It has that 1970s old school muscle car look and feel. It is sneaky fast though. I washed mine then went to blow the water off because black shows spots. Wasn’t looking at the speedo and got nailed with going 37 over by the local police on the interstate. If you get caught up in the comfort and just cruising at 1200 RPM you can sneak up to over a hundred and not feel it because it’s a big wide car. Oh mine has Car Play in it standard. So be careful if you get one. Keep your eye on the speedo.

I think the park brake location is a throw back to the "day". What I appreciate about my Challenger is that it's not a sports car, but a better more modern muscle car than the original era cars. But I have to admit Rob that I am a kid from the 60's and remember the original cars and what I wanted in '17 was a throw back to my childhood dream cars. The younger generation(s) is definitely into the hand brake or electronic park brake. But somehow these just don't seem American to me.... Thanks for the review.

The reason why there is no AWD with a V8 is sales. Dodge told a reviewer on youtube that they sell more V6s than V8s and its no wonder. The V8s cost too damn much.
@TheTestDrive
@TheTestDrive 6 жыл бұрын
Makes sense. I would absolutely pay for the V8 with AWD but most people are either perfectly happy with the V6 (300+hp is more than most cars on the road), or don't live in northern climates and can drive the V8 RWD year round.
@flipfloplogic
@flipfloplogic 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah 305hp is more than enough to get around town and thats what most people would use it for. The only reason to get a V8 is for bragging rights and when V8s are pushing 40,000 thats way too much to pay for a chance to intimidate other drivers. Its overkill. Now if someone plans to track or otherwise be involved in races then sure go for a V8.

Reuben Perez the screen in the SXT Plus is the full 8.4” uconnect is it not? And I made a mistake when I made this regarding the AWD-it’s only available on the GT. At the time when I made this Dodge did not have the 2018 Challenger on their website yet and there was no GT trim for 2017 that I know of so I thought AWD was going to be offered on the SXT Plus.

The most positive thing about the SXT is that the engine is proven and will provide longevity. Decent gas mileage as well. Performance is a different story. You'll lose out head to head VS most vehicles. Hell, my Escape does the same 0 to 60 time. And owning a muscle type car, people will want to bait you into racing stoplight to stoplight. That said, if you want the great looks, good mileage and no frills, go for it. Personally, I'd save up the difference and get a base R/T. Just my opinion.

Inati Phillips comparing the two on Dodge's website, I see the major difference is the fact that the standard uconnect screen in the 2017 model is the small Uconnect 5.0, compared to the much nicer and larger "Uconnect 4 with 7 inch screen" which is standard in the 2018 model. Both still have the 8.4" uconnect option as an upgrade which has navigation. The SXT I reviewed had the new 7 inch standard screen.

If you look for a used one they will have high miles, like between 140k to 170k, that says a lot, because if you are lucky to get a low miles challenger, it will last you a lot!. I do oil change myself, full syntetic every 3k miles, i dont wait untill 5k miles, plus its cheap doing it by yourself, COSTCO mobil one full syntetic oil cost $27, comes with 6q, wich is exactly what this engine needs, and like $7 filter, almost $35 oil change if you doit yourself, ultra cheap for a v6. And save gas on the freeway, 30mpg its true, with a/c on all the time! This car its worthy and head turner, buy it!, You wont regret it! Rob, a little constructive criticism. The blue masking tape is a loser. Couldn’t you spend five minutes on your computer and print out a Dodge logo or your KZbin channel name to cover the license plates? If you plan on building your subscriber base then you should think about getting a few professionally made license plate covers. Promote, promote, promote.Your delivery is good and your enthusiasm shines through. Pricing info would have kicked it up a notch. I strongly disagree with your assessment of the truck space, it matches or exceeds most mid-sized to large sedans. Also, you made no mention of the fold down rear seats. Would have been nice to hear about more of the features in the car. What type of headlights? Does it come with remote start? You get the idea. Best of luck with your future videos

Creepy Magoo thanks for the advice. I actually have someone making me license plate covers with my logo on them. Just don't have them yet. I am actually surprised you're the first to say something about the tape in 3 months of being a KZbinr! Also There's so much I could go into in these videos but I try to keep them around 10 minutes. Those are great points though. I post MSRP on certain videos but with this 2018 the pricing was not on Dodge's website at the time (it still might not be), although it probably doesn't differ much from the 2017. Thanks again!

come on now dodge I know people like the label and the look of this car, but a turbocharged 2.0 4 cyc in an accord will both outpace and outhandle this car. Granted it won’t sound as nice, but for a muscle car you’d expect straight line performance, so I’ll let it slide on the handling part, since it’s a muscle car and not a sports car, but it should be a little quicker.

The sound and the power feel incredible. My SXT felt like a normal car. Be warned if you start with the SXT like I did eventually you will find yourself wanting to upgrade. As far as gas mileage my R/T does great, it converts to 4 cylinders when you’re cruising. I honestly can’t tell much of a difference in MPG between the two cars. I’m spending about the same weekly on both. And this is my daily car!

look there are alot of people that hate on the v6 challenger. It's a poser car. its slow. its a grocery getter. im sure youve heard them all. I'm not gonna lie and say its the fastest or best preforming car in its class or against its rivals cus its not dont kid yourself. That being said its def got some kick to it tho. I have a 2019 SXT AWD and its my daily. It's got enough power to be fun but ill get smoked by other more performance oriented cars. It's disheartening but it is what it is. I took my buddy out for the first time the other day tho and gave a quick half to three quarter throttle punch down the road and he was screaming holy shit the whole time lol. If this is your first venture into performance type cars and your not looking to win track days or race people thats the reaction you will get as well. It's definitely got power and will get you that oh shit response when you punch it. 305 hp is alot in this class (people say minivans make as much power as this and they dont btw just look it up theyre like high 200s) and the engine with an aftermarket exhaust sounds great. for a daily driver you want some fun with... i dont think you can beat this car. I looked i didnt find anything else that looks as mean and cool and has as much daily life comforts. Buy what you like. V8 or "tuners" can hate all they want. Your car is still sick.
