I purchased a 2018 G80 Sport 3.3T about 4 weeks ago (thanks to Alex's review and high praise from other knowledgeable reviewers). I've read about, shopped, and test drove cars for the past 18 month and I'm very pleased with my decision. I also found the purchase process at my local Hyundai dealer to be a fun and stress-free experience. In addition to it's power, comfort, design, value and safety features, the G80 Sport has an eye-catching mystique. That is, very few people own, let alone have seen or heard of the vehicle, creating both an understated presence and an in "your face" curiosity.

Richard Woodward just turned it back in. I loved the way the car drove and it had plenty of power. I went through three batteries three sets of brakes and they replaced the rear end all under warranty. I did not like the dealership experience and complained to Genesis corporate and they actually sent me 300 bucks to make it right. The valet service was hit or miss many times they did not have a loaner and I question whether the dealership had the expertise at technician this car needs. I would own these under warranty and I think the value is incredible. I’m in between cars now but have an old Passat TDI as my daily driver. Just waiting on a great deal to come my way!

Just bought a G80 Sport AWD and for my money, by far the best road car I've ever owned. I replaced a long line of SUV's, the last one being an Acura RDX. Yeah, I'm giving up the ability to haul 18 bags of steer manure one or two times a year, but for the other 99% of my "drives", a much more enjoyable experience.

I test drove this car this pass weekend and I was completely floored by how exceptional this car is. The quality inside and out along with amazing ride and loaded options all for under 60K is amazing. I don't have to go into how great this vehicle is because Alex has already put hard work into doing so. I'll only add that at the end of this month I will be a very proud owner of one. When Genesis comes out with a SUV & coupe I'm not sure they will really take away much of its German competition consumers, but I feel they will be a very strong contender for Lexus.

Look at the beautiful instrument cluster at 11:40.. Simple, clear, easy to read and beautiful (especially the tachometer, speedometer, fuel guage, temp, and LCD.).. This is traditional yet brilliant if you ask me.. I wish other auto manufactures would do this and quit trying to develop "new" strange, ugly, hard to read dashboard designs. This would look great in say perhaps a Honda Pilot, Ridgeline and CRV - instead of the wierd, strange dashboards each have now.

I'm glad to know that you've had a good experience with your Kia. I have a 2008 Lexus GS 350 AWD. Time for something new and different. I'm leaning heavily towards a Hyundai, Genesis or Kia. The G80 is my fave, but then I have to pony up 55k, but that's probably the way that I'll go in the end. Also considering the Azera and Cadenza. Really the only thing that I don't like about the Kias is the use of red backlighting on buttons and knobs throughout the car. I find the white, light blue or violet colors to be preferable.
@acorb877 жыл бұрын
I agree about the red lights being visually unappealing in the Kias; I also prefer white or a light blue...maybe anything other than that red! Something for you to consider regarding your next purchase; I've seen a lightly used 2016 Cadenza with 8,000 miles on it for $21,500 at a dealer. I received a promotional email from Kia last summer trying to unload inventory, they were offering a new, base 2016 Cadenza for $24,000. It is a very nice car, and for the price of an almost base Optima or a Civic touring at that! I also like the G80, in the sport trim.
@ericd.44607 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'm looking on cars.com, that's where I found my Lexus. I always look at the offerings that have very low miles and have a very attractive price. It's a little bit dumb to buy a brand new car at full price. Another thing that I am very particular about is the color of the interior. Upon further examination, it looks like that 2018 G80 sport does not offer a beige or Ivory interior, which is going to be a problem for me. I don't want a black, white or gray interior.
@howlingwolf125y7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Aaron.. That's exactly what I was thinking.. I was thinking this too about the Kia's (like the Kia Sorento).. White or Light blue would be much better than red. I like (I mean I LOVE) the instrument panel (dashboard) behind the steering wheel on this car (Genesis G80).. This is a non-red and simple traditional design. I hope Honda will take note of this for the Pilot, CR-V and Ridgeline.
@howlingwolf125y7 жыл бұрын
Another idea that I had ... For night driving for example the Kia Sorento has red interior dashboard lights.. I don't like red and would prefer white or light blue. With all the lighting technology these days.. Isn't there a way for auto makers to find a way to let the owner's customize the light color for the interior dashboard lights? This would let the auto owner choose between red, light purple, light blue, or green for the interior lights.. Owners could even change the color if they get tired of a color - or if passengers prefer another color.. Just an idea..

Genesis is only a small portion of Hyundai's profits. They make a huge amount of money selling Elantras and Sonatas. Not to mention the KIA division which has produced the Optima, Sorento and Forte. Because of those cars success, they have the ability to branch out into the luxury market and really put some good money into engineering and design. You're basically describing the first dealer I visited to see the G80. VERY tight customer parking and what I would discribe as maybe a 1980 Russian car dealer showroom. The 2nd where I bought my new '18 G80 Sport was much better. From what I was told, Hyundai will be separating the 2 brands into separate showrooms withing 2 years. I think Genesis is about to debut 2 SUV models as well and that show greatly help the brand. Porsche, Jaguar, and other luxury brands have doubled their annual sales after introducing luxury SUV's and I suspect the same thing will happen with Genesis. And the increased foot traffic will probably help the G70, G80 and G90 as well.

Rear seat comfort was lower in the v8 than the 3.3t. Also you say the trunk is smaller than the Volvo S90 for the 2017 but larger for the 2018. Has your impression of the car changed since the last review or is the sport that much different? I like the grill and lack of carbon fiber of the v8 but the other updates for the sport are very appalling. I'm torn.

Of course you can rotate them side to side as long as you are not using directional tread tires. As long as you can keep a good alignment on your car there is not that much accomplished in savings by moving rear wheels to the front. Where as FWD cars have to be rotated regularly to keep the tires from feathering the tread.

I hope Hyundai distances the Genesis brand more. Right now they still look way too much like Hyundai cars and selling them at Hyundai dealerships seems crappy when you're dropping $60k on a premium car. It gives you more for your money or undercuts the competition by 7,000$+. The peasant dealership experience will cost them some sales, fair enough. palebeachbum, I have a 2016 Genesis and you're right. Taking my $53,500 MSRP car (didn't pay close to that) to the Hyundai dealership reminded me why I would never pay the full premium price for this car. It's a wonderful car, but the service isn't on par with other luxury manufacturers and dealers. They didn't wash my car or vacuum it, left a screwdriver under my hood after an oil change. They also put cheap Walmart wiper blades on my Genesis. I of course made them take them off and order the correct blades for my car. Hyundai needs to step up their service departments.

Great review Alex -- very comprehensive and complete -- better than most other reviews. I just bought the G80 3.3 Sport and love it -- the best car I've ever had -- coming from a 2015 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 V6 Ultimate (G80 V6 Ultimate equivalent) which was the best I've ever had prior to the Sport -- coming from a line of Lexus GSs, Audi, Toyota, Honda, Mazda, and Nissan. I've had cars that were better than the Genesis in one or two ways, but none that had the best combination of everything like the Genesis. My only minor dislike is the Sport grill that seems to emphasize the smart cruise control sensor panel -- not attractive. I prefer the distinctive horizontal grill pattern of the non-Sport G80.

I can't decide between this and the 5.0L V8. I want to get the one with the more comfortable ride, fun is a bonus. Everywhere I read sounds like the Sport trim is a slightly harder drive but more fun while the 5.0 is cushier with more acceleration but not quite as fun. However Alex seems to think the opposite of the suspensions! Has anyone else had a chance to compare the two models of car or take them for a test drive?

hfcobra sport has a better and newer suspension. It’s better. Car and driver also recorded 5.0 0-60 for the sport AND the v8

I had to await my sport to be delivered to the dealer and while I waited the Dealer gave me a 5.0 ultimate for the weekend, I deffinately prefer the sport. With just a tune card you can have more HP over 100ft/lbs of torque in a much wider band. Better MPG, Better brakes, Better Suspension. To me is a no brainer unless you just have to have a V8

Stinger or G80, what’s everyone’s preference?

Chuck Norris did you ever decide I’ve been looking at both of them used
@chucknorris51415 жыл бұрын
@@JustxLiving909 I have not purchased yet. Timing is a little wrong financially right now. I would probably go Stinger. The hatch is more practical for driving my son around for hockey. It's also a little more my style. Younger and sportier looking. Can't go wrong either way imo.

Ws Duce having said that it looks like the g80 is the better deal used. If you look at the sport I think they were a few thousand higher than the gt2 stinger. Yet I see many comparable vehicles both around 40k for a 2018. Maybe I’m not looking in the right spot but I was surprised the stingers weren’t a bit lower.

Can we get a 4.4 V8 Twin Turbo please? Direct extrapolation (365/3.3*4.4) would get it to 486 HP. Overall it is a very well balanced car especially for the $.

Definitely carbon should be in a sport trim as opposed to wood, wood is dated and old fashioned

imo, the G80 sport is too expensive! Put the turbo v6 in a base G80 and it's game on!
@IReahpZz7 жыл бұрын
Troy Kleffman could happen soon, they may drop the 3.8 and lower the price on the 3.3, kinda like the Genesis coupe dropping the 2.0t

which engine of the genesis would burn more gasoline, 3.3 turbo with higher horse power or 3.8 atmospheric with lower horse power?
@whosdondada6 жыл бұрын
3.8
@t.k.morris6 жыл бұрын
The 3.8L naturally aspirated motor will give you better fuel mileage and only require regular 87 octane gas.
