Changed the belt on a couple 3rd gen Tacomas, and I usually just take the fan shroud and fan off. Takes a little effort getting to those (4) 10mm bolts holding the fan blade, but taking them off turns a 30 minute belt replacement into a 5 minute belt replacement. Plus it gives you a chance to inspect the fan shroud out of the truck. The fan shrouds on these 3rd gen tacomas are made of very brittle plastic and they break quite easily, especially the 2 mounting points.

Same NAPA numbers and everything. They aren’t like the old v-belts. Who would have figured. from now on the old one goes under the seat as the emergency one. @Eland Motors I did, I ended up changing it myself with a cost of $230. I purchased the pulley kit from rock auto and changed all of them to include the belt.

Just changed an idler pulley at 48k miles over here- still squeaking 🙄. I’ve never had a vehicle with as many problems as my Tacoma has had. I bought a Toyota to not have to deal with these issues, apparently I was wrong

Oh man are u kidding, still squeaking after a belt AND a pulley. Hummmm that’s really odd. And yes, I agree, that’s one of the reasons we have the Tacoma because it’s supposed to be so reliable with minimal issues. Keep me posted with what u have to do to stop the squeal. Ours has 50k miles and haven’t had many problems at all. Fingers crossed. 🙏🏽

@@elandmotors8845 oh I changed the belt after watching this. It’s finally gone 🙌🏻. Trans issues, driveline issues, headlight clearcoat is peeling, weird paint issues etc. it’s been exciting to say the least.

@@kristofferpence Wow. You HAVE been through it with that bad boy. Guess I should thank my lucky stars on ours so far. It’s the wife’s commuter and we do the off road stuff in the Jeep. So the Taco is holding up so far. Is your dealer offering to help you with any of your issues. Any recalls, including on the paint?

@@kristofferpence Toyota has the shittiest paint imaginable. You look at it wrong and the paint chips off. I live in PA where the use anti skid on the roads in the winter. I rarely drive my truck in the winter but i have chips all over the place. My girlfriend has a subaru crosstrek. She drives 50 miles round trip to work every day. Not a chip on her vehicle.

@@willrobinson9575 yeah, I Agree. I now work for Toyota and get to see this on the daily. But my taco is a Mexican build, and i can tell you after driving many throughout the day that others feel wag more solid than mine. Plus my paint in the direct sun is spoltchy and uneven. Apparently another recall. But I’m not having the dealer repaint my whole truck, I’m dumping it in a month or so.

For anyone using this video to change the belt. There is a small hole at the bottom of the tensioner you can put a 5mm allen into to hold the tensioner in the loose position
