its a lot easier to change the filter if you crank the wheels all the way to the right, also, you only have to remove the push pins from the lowest rear most part of the fender flap. The oil filter from the factory feels heavier as it's inside is saturated with engine oil
@Crosley32513 жыл бұрын
At the 11 minute mark he is comparing the weight of a used filter ,saturated with oil ,with that of a new filter with no oil in it . And I agree with Steven , I gave this a thumbs up . Even though he made several mistakes ,at least he tried to pass along useful info .

Thanks. Read your manual, check oil after engine has been sitting after a minimum of 15 minutes it states. Also drain time is 15 minutes but suggested 30 minutes. Takes time to drain. Plus Ford adds 1 additional quart of break in oil, so you lost one quart in 3,000 miles, which is normal. Send a oil sample to Blackstone Laboratories after 3rd oil change. Spend the extra $10 for TBN and TAN analysis. You will be shocked how much oil life you had left in that baby at 3,000 miles. I used to change my oil every 3,000 miles and would change new vehicle oil after approximately 500 miles. Not today, the oils are superior to what was available 20 years ago. If the engine is running perfectly you could stretch oil change interval to 5,000 miles easily and do no harm to the engine. At 5,000 miles you still have 50% TBN left on clock, which neutralizes acid. Today, I use the oil wear monitor and change at 6,500 miles on my 2.7L F-150. My wife just purchased 2021 Ranger, only has 500 miles on clock. Nice video. Peace

To properly check the oil level, you should have waited at least 5 minutes after the engine has been stopped before checking the oil level. Also, prior to prying off the wheel opening molding rivets, you should have used a screw driver to unscrew the plastic screw unless you don't want to reuse them. Those rivets cost about $4 each.

PSA if you're doing the first oil change on a brand new car... That filter will 99% of the time be both dry gasketted, and way over tightened. Don't do that when you put the new filter on. Always lube the new gasket, and just give it a good tighten. When the car runs for 3k or however many miles, it will get a lot tighter. I find that if you use a torque wrench and if it's not 100 percent dialed in, you can really mess things up. I snapped a bolt on housing for my mass airflow sensor because I followed the torque specs. I never followed them again since that time because you never know the accuracy of your torque wrench and if it is off even 5 percent , you're kind of fucked. So on the sensitive parts which you REALLY can't afford to strip, I'd go by FEEL rather than specs. Just my personal preference after 41 years of doing my own oil changes. SierraVistaGathering I have a jeep with 267,000 miles, at 224,000 jeep replaced my engine under lifetime warranty, I feel the only reason was because I had a “paper trail”of dealership oil changes. Just something to consider.

TheWiscoGuyz Great choice but Ford to use this engine in this truck. Only thing imo they should have done differently is found a way to put the filter on top. With a tune in this truck 80-90 more hp and ft lbs of torque is easily achievable. Transmission will handle it will 0 issues.

It is a really good engine! I came from Focus ST's and I was pretty familiar with the ecoboost inline 4 engines.... Plus 28 mgs on the Hwy is nice too 😆

I work at a Ford/Chrysler dealer here in northern Wisconsin and from what I see from the 4 cylinder ecoboost engine they are pretty reliable. From the 1.5L to the 2.3L ecoboost 4 cylinders they seem to not have to many problems. The Ford fusion is one of the most reliable vehicle out there with the ecoboost engines. I think it mostly depends on how you take care of the vehicle too. Being a turbo engine I would change oil at 5000 mile mark. But time will tell to see what the 2.3 liter ecoboost will do. I plan i keeping mine for the next 10 years.. And in that time i should have around 150k to 200k on it. But if the ranger comes out with a 2.7L v6 ecoboost..... I might trade up into that... Lol

Why is this process such a mess compared to the Tacoma? It looks like a cakewalk on the Taco and even if you did it on the Ford 100% correctly it looks like it'd be a pain in the ass, I see getting oil all over your suspension stuff as it drips as you're removing the filter from the wheelwell. Arrrgh. My 2005 Focus is easier to change than this. Come on Ford...

I had a 91 Toyota Pickup and had to remove a cover on the inner fender to get to the filter. Also with the oversized tires I put on I then had to remove the wheel. These are easy compared to some other vehicles.

Why are you changing your oil at less than 3k miles? The range has an oil life monitor equipped on it. Ford even say the 2019 Oli life is up to 1 year or 10k miles.

Mostly to get the break in oil out. Gained 5 mpgs average after i changed oil. Plus i only put on 6-8k mile a year on. I might switch to 5k oil changes though, we will see though.

@TheWiscoGuyz4 жыл бұрын
They don't. But it helps....
@heavyhittr4 жыл бұрын
Ford will give you the cheap way to keep the perceived cost of ownership down. Truth is this is a very high tech power train. Synthetic oil is better a better lubricant than conventional oil. Flows better, keeps engine cooler. Cheap insurance over the long term if you want to go way beyond the warranty period.
@zacharymurdock67213 жыл бұрын
Yes they clearly do. In the owners manual of any Ranger it recommends using oil that meets Ford Spec: WSS-M2C946-B1. The dealerships and some shops around me (including the shop I work at) don’t stock or carry conventional oil anymore. Requiring, or recommending synthetic (or synthetic blend) oil is why oil change intervals have increased to 7500-15000 miles for newer cars in recent years. Yeah sure, you can try to go that far on “regular” oil but you might be needing a new engine 😂 🤦🏼♂️ 👍🏻 👨🏼🔧 Personally, I wouldn’t put anything but a high-quality synthetic in a Turbo engine (all of the new rangers are Turbocharged).

Sorry, but Aaron is wrong! It's a TOTAL pain in the butt. I love my 2019 Ranger in EVERY way except the fuel economy auto shutoff and changing the oil. I've changed my own oil for 28 years on Chevy, Honda, Subaru, Toyota, Jeep and now Ford. This is the worst oil change setup I've ever come across! Why did I have to go down the KZbin rabbit hole just to find out where the filter is located AND how to access it? WTF Ford? Thanks WiscoGuyz!
