As new entries in the compact SUV segment hit the market, the strong selling #NissanRogue could have its second best-selling sales crown threaten as the new RAV4, Forester, and impressive CX-5 go on sale. While the current generation #Nissan #Rogue has been around since 2014, its unique blend of strong value, a spacious cabin, and competitive tech features have kept buyers coming into Nissan showrooms. Only those of you who favor sporty driving dynamics and a better powertrain combination should seek elsewhere but for the majority of crossover buyers, the Rogue's combination is tough to beat. Expect an all-new version coming in 2020.

Hey guys, some of you probably noticed the strange audio at the end. Our less than one year old wireless mic from Sony decided to quit working randomly at the beginning of February and it’s affected a few of our recent videos. Thankfully, we caught it pretty early and are getting it repaired and purchased a new Sennheiser unit to replace it. The audio at the end was actually a voiceover that Sofyan recorded at a later date. Thanks for being so understanding! Sometimes camera and audio equipment will just throw you a heck of a curveball 😔

People interested in buying the Rogue or RAV4 aren't interested in sportiness and handling. I'm tired of you continuously test driving cars made for families as utility vehicles and then whining that they aren't sporty enough! If you want sporty stick to reviewing sports cars and sports sedans that are actually made for enthusiasts interested in the driving fun factor!

It always makes me laugh when car reviewers are mystified by how well the rogue sells. The fact of the matter is that it is AFFORDABLE. I live in the northern part of Illinois with ice storms, flash floods and heaps of snow so I needed something with AWD that was high enough off the ground to handle the sheer amount of snow and rain that falls here. My heart was set on the Mazda CX-5 but the equivalent 2019 trim level just doesn’t offer the same bells and whistles as the Rogue. To get the same amount of safety features you need to apply upgrades that push the Mazda closer to $28-30,000 versus $25,000 for the Rogue. For young families or anyone on a budget, the choice is pretty obvious. TDLR: this is a safety first, 60 to 0 vehicle not a pleasure drive, 0 to 60 vehicle. For a low price, bells and whistles included. Details: Yes the engine is lack luster, but if you’re looking for safety over having a pleasure drive, the Rogue is a good fit. I drive 100 miles five days a week, in both city and highway conditions, with extreme weather the majority of the year. I’m also a recent college grad so safety and affordability were at the top of my totem pole. The AWD has served me well in very icy conditions and rain is a joke for the Rogue. The vehicle brakes quickly even if it can’t accelerate well. The brake assist has definitely helped me with some close calls in rush hour traffic. My only complaint is that in extreme snow and ice the front collision sensors often get too obstructed to do anything, but at that point I’m probably already driving at a very cautious crawl, so it doesn’t matter much. And if, like me, you do a lot of highway commuting with crazy drivers swerving in and out of lanes, the blind spot detection is extremely helpful. The blind spots on the Rogue are actually very minimal and almost non existent towards the front of the vehicle. I test drove a lot of other manufacturers’ equivalent crossover/compacts and it definitely has one of the best visibility profiles. the Rogue does decently in gas mileage (even extremely well if you only accelerate very slowly and turn on eco mode). if Nissan upgrades the engine on the Rogue, I might give up buying the Mazda CX-5 next time around and just get another Rogue.
@TraceLight

Jen C. Here is the thing about gimmicky safety features: Just don’t rely on them. We lived well enough without them before, Suddenly “lane departure warning” is a thing. You are always better off with a more powerful engine and a solid transmission with a good chassis than some Jatco CVT and whatever other electronic they managed to tack onto it...

Good review... I’ve learned something about owning cars...especially Nissans. I’ve had 2 Altima’s. Chrysler 300m, Dodge neon r/t, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Chevy z24 cavalier.-a lot- I own a simple 2017 Nissan Altima SV.. few gizmos for safety, nothing fancy. But the biggest thing I hear people in my area talk about is Dealer Experience when looking, it’s actually a big factor depending on where you live. I’ve had great dealings with Nissan with any issues. So Much my boss looked into a buying Toyota Tundra and got a Nissan Armada instead. First thing she told me was her husband was impressed with all the cars he’s owned was how much they worked with him with the price and gave them free maintenance for a year. Every suggested look at a Nissan from his job. I really think that has a lot to do with why people buy “not so fancy/sporty- vehicles too. I’ve looked at Honda’s Accords. Love them to death but in my heart but i really have no need for one. My Altima does the job without any issues. Hey I can’t drive a turbo around here with my lead foot.

Eazy Gunz my girlfriend has a 2016 and she’s gone through 2 transmissions in 45k miles. The Jatcos are junk. That’s the one thing stopping me from really looking at Nissan and I’ve owned 2 of them over the years. Until they fix it, I won’t buy one. I was in the market for a midsize sedan a few months ago and I would have loved to buy an Altima or Maxima, but because of that junk CVT, I bought a Hyundai Sonata instead.

Eazy Gunz I agree. The trucks are fine. Titan and Frontier. 👍🏼 The cars and crossovers on the other hand are great to look at but horrible to drive and unreliable due to that transmission issue. It sucks, because they’re nice looking vehicles. The only Nissan products I’d even remotely consider now are the Titan or GT-R. The frontier is nice but it badly needs an update.

The Mazda may drive better, but you get a lot more (features, safety, tech) for the money with the Rogue over the CX-5, which can be a bit pricey. That's why it sells so well. You get a car that gets you around safely with a lot of stuff in it for a good price. Sure not fast but you still get there.

Hey Sofyan, what are you talking about with the Rogue having outdated Navigation software? It has the latest software that is also used in the '19 Altima, '19 Maxima, and '19 Murano. It is an update from prior years, especially from the outdated software that was in the '16 Rogue. If you want a Nissan with truly outdated software, check out the '19 Pathfinder and even the '20 300Z. Those models are far outdated with their stereo software. Those models still don't have Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, and their Navigation map looks 10 years old. The nice new feature with the new Altima, Maxima, Rogue, and Murano is that the infotainment software (and I believe the map software too) can be updated over the air when connected to a Wi-Fi network.

Anderson Rodriguez well the turbo issues are still somewhat of a rarity (one out of every 800). Plus, if you do end up having issues, it is covered under warranty, and there’s an expected fix coming soon. If you don’t want to risk the headache, then get a rav 4, but after test driving one, I can tell you confidently, the Honda is the better driving and more fun car. Also, if you’re debating between the rogue and the cry, the video made it pretty clear that the crv is superior

You can only take these auto reviewers with a grain of salt. They do a good job giving initial responses on new car drivability and comfort. However, almost all of them rate quietness while repeatedly flooring the gas pedal every chance they get. I passed up a purchase in the past due to a few reviewer’s complaints of an engine being too noisy. A few years later I rented that exact same model and engine, and it wasn’t nearly as loud as they claimed. That’s because I didn’t floor it. Also, most turn up their nose at CVTs. Another reason I passed up that car. I noticed, with that rental, it was just fine. I still enjoy watching these videos. But I use them as a quick guide. Then I’ll rent the vehicle for a week. Test drives are useless.

After driving a '19 Altima for 3 months, I took the loss and traded it in for a '19 Rogue SL with the premium package and premium leather. I used to have a '15 Altima SL and then a '16 Maxima Platinum. I traded up to the Maxima, but wish I had kept my '15 Altima. The '15 Altima was so comfortable and very quiet on the road compared to the '16 Maxima which had less comfortable seats than the Altima, and so many creaks and rattles. It drove me nuts. Once the lease was up on the Maxima, I went back to an Altima, hoping the '19 was as nice as my '15 Altima. Boy was I wrong. Feature-wise, the '19 Altima was great. It had many of the same features as the '16 Maxima. However, the new glass touchscreen stereo always required two or three taps to get it to respond. It would acknowledge with an audible tap, but nothing would happen. I always had to press two or three times for the stereo to respond and change screens. Comfort - the seats in the '19 Altima are about 2 inches narrower than the prior generation. It always felt like I was sitting on the edges of the seat. The rear door panels are all plastic, unlike the prior generation. Lots of creaks and rattles too. The front passenger door had a lot of rattles and Nissan refused to replace the door panel. I even demonstrated that if you push against the door panel, the rattles stopped. They still would not replace the door panel. I paid to have noise dampening material applied to both front doors which helped reduce the rattles by about 95%. The glove box in the '19 Altima is considerably smaller than the prior generation. Other than the owner's manual packet, don't expect to put much else in there. Driving the '19 Altima - not even the same as the prior generation. I used to get 40+ MPG with the '15 Altima on the highway and averaged 35 MPG. The CVT in the '15 Altima also felt very much like a regular 5-speed automatic. I could baby the gas pedal on the highway and it would cruise at a constant speed, which allowed the high mileage. With the '19 Altima, the CVT felt like it was trying to simulate shifting through all 5 gears of an automatic before I even hit 30 MPH. It was awful. On the highway, I always had to put pressure on the gas pedal to maintain a constant speed, which had a direct effect on gas mileage. In the city, I averaged 20-25 MPG and the highway, low 30s. It was not even close to my prior Altima. I don't know if the CVT needed to be reprogrammed, but I am guessing Nissan would have said nothing was wrong with the vehicle. It was so disappointing because I really wanted the new Altima to be very much like my old one. So I told my wife about my crazy idea of ditching the Altima for the Rogue and she was all for it. The '19 Rogue has the same larger seats as the prior Altima and the CVT drives like a real automatic transmission. So much better than the '19 Altima. The Rogue is quiet on the highway compared to the rattling Altima, and the touchscreen on the stereo is much more responsive than the new Altima. I don't mind the 7" touchscreen because I would rather have it respond to my touch than to keep pressing it to get it to do something. I did a 700 mile road trip with the new Rogue and averaged 31 MPG on the highway, which involved a change of altitude from 1,000 feet to 8,500 feet. I took a loss on the Altima, but much happier with the Rogue.
