The Ecoboost makes that power, but for how long might I ask? And while we are comparing dissimilar engines, a 600cc Yamaha R6 makes 70hp per litre more than your Ford with no turbocharger, but is that also a valid comparison? The land cruiser is about longevity, not big numbers.
@johneldepresso5 жыл бұрын
[Cykoid] yea but does that engine guarantee reliability, capability and durability? Besides I know someone who owns a 79 series landcruiser with the V8, he only did an ecu tune and managed to squeeze out 300 horsepower and 650nm

@PDriveTV5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. Keep in mind the video is just a video. We do the actual timing with a Vbox off-camera so we can do multiple runs to find the best time. We may well have tried letting it rev during one of the runs. Also keep in mind an indicated 100km/h isn't usually 100km/h. Most cars we've tested require around 105-110km/h indicated before hitting the real 100.
@andy373725 жыл бұрын
@@PDriveTV Yea was just a observation as I drive a 2013 troopy & it is awkwardly getting outa it's powerband in 3rd at 100 but have still found it quicker than the jump to 4th. In saying that tho the the big V8 loosen up a bit as it gets some decent k's on it & rev a bit freer
@PDriveTV5 жыл бұрын
Fair enough. Toyota did make some revisions to the gearbox in 2016, introducing taller second and fifth gear ratios. The engine was also given new piezo-electric injectors to improve combustion and torque delivery. In other words, the 2013 model would likely produce different 0-100 times anyway.

Peak torque maybe yes but the Landcruiser delivers that torque from 1200 through to about 3500 RPM, compare it with the Triton torque curve.
@max-grey5 жыл бұрын
Have you thought of endurance? You might actually be able to push the toyota harder for a longer time without the engine showing signs of being stressed out. This V8 was actually detuned, the 200 series landcruiser has 650nm of torque so you can see this was detuned for a purpose, this is a workhorse without any intent of offering any form of luxury or being a daily driver... This is for long distances under load.

Do you take stored fuel into consideration? It appears main and sub is full in this trail (100+L), whereas other utes/cars may have close to empty fuel tanks?
@PDriveTV5 жыл бұрын
Yes, we try to test cars with around 50% fuel. Keep in mind the videos are separate to the actual tests. We do the timing runs with a Vbox Sport off-camera. Usually 4-5 runs to find the quickest time. You do have a valid point though, especially for this car. 180L of fuel would weigh the car down quite a lot.

All Vbox testing is done behind the scenes. We usually do multiple runs to try all sorts of driving methods and modes. In this case, letting the engine rev right out produced a slower time. So we thought we'd video a similar method that produced the quickest time for us. Hope that makes sense.
