Yes, my 22 F450 sounds like it has seagulls under the hood when I shut it down. Scared the daylights out of me when I first heard it (at around 7.000 miles on the odometer.). It is not 100% of the time, maybe 50%.

I do believe this to be a normal sound. I’ve heard similar electric actuators make this sound on larger and smaller engines. The day you hear it stop or become quieter may be a time to concern yourself about imminent failure.

22 450 does it at shutdown. Dealer told me it was venting the crankcase and was working as designed. I believe the black unit on top left side is making the noise. Is there a service notice on this?

Yo my 22 Tremor has always made that noise. At 6,000miles started to make a high pitched vacuume noise under load. Taken into dealer for turbo replacement. Got it back 3 weeks later. Returned it for the same noise after 1 day. Got it back a week later with problem fixed. With the supposedly new turbo. The sound remains when you turn the truck off it makes that noise still.

It’s tuned for higher output, essentially. As far as physical changes to the engine, I believe the only one is coolant being routed to the turbo. Doesn’t happen with current 6.7Ls.

It’s supposed to cycle when shut off to keep from seizing, every final tier diesel no matter tractor, trucks whatever does that, so do you mean that it sounds Ill. 11-19 the noise is the EGR bypass releasing. Its not the turbo on those. They are hydraulic not electronic VGT
