In this video, I install the much needed center stand for the 2020 Africa Twin Adventure Sports CRF1100. I ran into a slight hiccup with the spring portion and that is addressed towards the end of the video.

GREAT instructional video, Thanks. For the springs, I used a Ratchet strap. I secured one side of the ratchet strap to the R-foot peg MOUNT. I routed the strap around the back tire and adjusted it so that the Ratchet Mechanism was on the left side of the tire....so I could lie down and work the ratchet while watching the spring. I used a small loop of nylon parachute cord to pull on the spring with the ratchet strap. This effectively was my extra helping hand. Using the Ratchet strap made installing the springs much easier.

Great video! Just installed the outback one on mine. Little trick I used thicker electrical wire. Around the spring then around the sprocket and slowly walk the bike forward stretching the spring till it’s lined up then pull over and back up slightly. 👍🏼👍🏼

That second spring was a killer. I finally used a ratchet strap to stretch it on. Worked like a champ. Thanks for your vids.

I had similar difficulties installing my center stand on my 2016. In the end, hooked the springs to a small cable wrapped around a small stick (as a T-handle) and had a friend seat behind the bike providing the tension. I could then manipulate the springs (one at a time) into position. The cable can then be cut with cutters and yanked out:). Another inmate on Advrider shared a better idea: Leverage the cable with a broomstick from behind the back wheel (bike in gear, of course). If you don't have a helper, you can seat next to the bike facing back and push the stick with your foot while manipulating the springs with your hands. With that kind of long arm not that much effort is needed. Cheers:)

Thanks for the input. With the many ways to tackle the springs, the common thread is mechanical perseverance lol.

Washers or pennies pre installed into the springs so they are stretched beforehand also help apparently

Great informative clip. When it came to the springs, a suggestion. I used a hook made from high tensile fencing wire and a webbing strap wrapped around a post behind the bike and put on each spring in turn. 10 min total to install. Great and many thanks!

Thanks, I'm going to post reviews of each accessory shortly but for what it's worth this side stand is A+. Very little effort to lift bike up on it. The foot lever gives ample leverage and you don't need to lift on the bike almost at all.

Does your center stand always rest against the spring arm when raised? Likewise on the exhaust side, I’ve got a gap between the grey pad on the stand and the rest stop… Dealer tech installed it with only one spring ‘because it was aftermarket’ I can’t even…. So I’ve got to redo it. As it is right now it looks properly done except for the springs, except for how it’s sitting raised (2021 ATAS ES)

Getting the springs on , first put the springs on the pivot in the correct orientation BEFORE putting on the bike and tape hooks together ( this secures them to the pivot and in the correct orientation). Then use two loops of 550 cord and a ratchet strap. One end ( the ratchet side ) gets hooked to rear sprocket, Front strap to 550 loop. Loop around ONE spring and cinch down the ratchet until hook clears center stand mount. Slip end of spring over mount and cut 550 loop. Undo ratchet strap, loop second 550 cord loop around second spring and repeat. Takes less time that this took to type, with a lot less cussing and grunting, and more time for beer.

How stable is this center stand? I have the hepco becker but it is not really stable and hops on the stand if you go sit on it. How is the oem?

I can only speak for this one specifically but it's very stable. Slight lateral inclines or gravel it does well

Thanks for the video it helped. One thing I did was use small nylon rope and a ratchet strap to pull the spring over the hook and then cut the rope to get off, read about that tip on the AT forum. A little scary to do by yourself but got it done.

Great video! Just installed my OEM center stand today. Yes the springs are a bugger to install. I tied a ratchet strap to my back tire and used some string to connect the strap to the spring. I got the idea from this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/hF6vl5ubm8eLebc . It worked well. Looking forward to see your video of the engine/light bar install. I ordered these for my bike as well, but they are back ordered until August. Haven't looked on the fog lights yet, but definitely interested in how to connect them to the factory display screen so I don't have to install a separate toggle switch. Thanks again!
@SkyhookStudios
@SkyhookStudios 4 жыл бұрын
If you are in North America the factory function switch will not work for the fog lights. Honda removed that option for regulation reasons. I will be doing a video of that issue in a couple weeks.
