Thanks for both this and the lower wind deflector installation video. Your careful explanation and demonstration give us the necessary confidence to alter our precious hew bikes. The first time I do anything to a brand new bike is an exercise in terror, so I’m very grateful for your videos!

Just installed the upper wind deflectors today. The lower (smaller) bolt gets both plastic washers. Took the bike for a test ride on the highway and the deflectors work well!

The rubber nut insert in the lower location on the bike is called a Well Nut. You can find them at Home Depot sometimes called a Brass Expansion Nut. Just an FYI>

I have a 2018 AT non-AS and although I'm a fairly new rider, what I have noticed, is that some of the wind is coming from the fork area but that seems to interact with the lower part of my stomach, which is not bothersome. What I DO find annoying is the deflected wind/turbulence that comes through the space (above)/between the turn signals and the sides of the small vehicle fairings just below the lower edges of the windscreen. That wind is deflected into my upper chest region and finds its way through the bottom of my helmet into my ears. Of course, I wear earplugs but they do not completely mitigate the reverberation/buffeting noise I hear. I'm thinking of prototyping some "winglets" with Coroplast in an attempt to block some of this wind. BTW, your video is nice, clear and informative. Thanks.

Thanks. The one parting thought I have with all the wind deflection mitigation is that these bikes are not touring bikes. I've grown use to the mild wind issues. It's just an inherent thing with them. They are destined for the off road not the highway. Welcome to the ride and enjoy 🍻

@@SkyhookStudios Yes, that's true. Despite that annoyance though, I really love the bike. It only took me 64 years to get it; my first MC. Thanks again.

Did you notice any improvement in regards to wind at 100 km and above? Was it noticably better than stick? I have same machine and notice alot of chest wind. Looking to improve wind protection. Thank you.

Supposed to say "stock" sorry
@SkyhookStudios4 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't call it "a lot" but it was definitely noticable. The consensus of wind on your chest is that most of it comes from the hole where the handle bars and forks are. Givi makes what they call a tunnel blocker and that seems to help a bit more. The problem is they don't make one yet for the new Africa Twin. With this being the only option for air deflection, it does a great job. I also have a SW Motech tank bag that helps with air from the fork tube area. For 40$ US, I think it's worth it. Plus it fills the front of the bike out a little and looks great.

@@SkyhookStudios Thanks for the reply. Looking forward to getting one, once someone make it for the 2020 ATAS :-)

I felt no change in airflow when I installed mine. Still a lot of shoulder/upper body buffeting.
@billmcmeekin79094 жыл бұрын
@@solodad7999 Thanks for the reply. I'm thinking perhaps a slightly wider windshield may help? But I'm pretty much used to the different wind anomalies now. So may just be content. At least until I see something that is remarkable in change. Cheers, take care and best of riding to you in 2021, Bill 🇨🇦

I would like to ask if you know about the Swegotech fork updraft shield? The blocker is mounted around the triple clamp and tank top area to block updraft causing wind turbulence. I'm thinking this wind turbulence is what many riders feel and try unsuccessfully to eliminate 👍
@SkyhookStudios3 жыл бұрын
I agree that that is the main area that wind is coming through. Last I checked, there isn't a tunnel wind blocker for the new Africa twin yet. But that was a few months back.

@@SkyhookStudios Swegotech makes one from the 2022 AT AdvSprt. Big Rock Moto has one on his new bike.

@@rdance3 Nice. I curious if it helps much. I haven't found much wind to be coming up through there like the former generation of AT
@rdance32 жыл бұрын
@@SkyhookStudios Were you aware of the Puig deflectors when you chose the ones you installed? They look like they use a different location which might be necessary since the Swegotech fork guard uses the same lower hole as the deflectors you installed, which might lead to the deflectors being lifted up agains the adhesive. That is, unless it can mount on top, instead of underneath.
@SkyhookStudios2 жыл бұрын
@@rdance3 I wasn't. When I did the installation and videos, there wasn't anything available for the new generation AT which was 2020. The factory accessories were the only thing available at the time. Some stuff also took forever to get due to covid.

When times come to change air filters! would that require removing the two screws to remove the fairings?
@SkyhookStudios4 жыл бұрын
I have yet to do a fairing removal but from what I see, yes. At least the lower one. I'll be doing the radiator guards next week and that requires fairing removal. Look for that video in a week or so.

Great little vid matey😄. I’ve just ordered a new Africa Twin Adventure Sports over here in the UK 🇬🇧. How did you find the deflectors once they were fitted. They look like a good accessory to get for the bike.
@SkyhookStudios2 жыл бұрын
They look better then they perform. I think it helps a little but I didn't have a lot of experience without them. It was one of the first installs I did.
@solodad79994 жыл бұрын
I installed these on my Africa & felt no difference in air flow. I would like to find an aftermarket company that could make a set about 4"-5" wide to knock down the shoulder & upper body buffeting.
@SkyhookStudios4 жыл бұрын
When Givi makes their tunnel wind blocker for the new AT, give that a try. From what I'm tested, most of the wind that is hitting your shoulders is from the upper fork area.
@rdance32 жыл бұрын
Puig makes a pair as well. Big Rock Moto has a pair on his bike which lead me to do more research and end up here. They are almost 3 times the price. Trying to find out the major difference now.

They push the air pattern out wider around your chest and neck. For how small they are, they work great. Is yours a 2020? I'm interested in the tunnel wind blocker.
