It neither surpassed my expectations of an suv nor fell short of them. Overall it was incredibly smooth. That particular road was horrible, and the vehicle evolved from smooth into just okay. Hi lads at Throttle House. What a review. Fan of Mat Watson carwow, Thomas on Autogefuehl and the guys on straight pipes. First time I have come across your reviews. Very informative and entertaining. Will be following you from now on. So can you please help? I am trying to decide whether to buy an X5 30d or a GLE 350d. This is in England so the specs/engines obviously differ from the market you are showing. You made done references to X5. But I would really appreciate more of your take on this. For example I also think the X5 looks far better on the exterior. More aggressive,agile and imposing. I can live with the grill at the front. The front end for me is the only part where the Merc looks better as in UK they are all AMG line as standard. The interior front row of the Merc also feels more special with dual screens and more spacious however for me the 2nd row looks cheaper in the Merc particularly the seats throughout. Although they are nappa leather, the merino leather in the X5 which I added as an option looks far better quality. In UK you also can’t get heated/cooled cupholders, rear window sunblinds, heated rear seats and massage seats as options on the Merc but you can on the X5. Would really appreciate your thoughts as to which interior you overall felt was better quality and which had better ride quality. Cheers in advance.
@jamesengelsman93695 жыл бұрын
This is a tough one. It's been a month or so since we were in the X5 but I lived with that car for a week and had NOTHING but good things to say about it. Sublime ride, incredibly comfortable interior, more tech than you'd ever need. The GLE hits those points too, though. Honestly, best thing to do is test drive them on the same roads (which we have yet to do) to get a better idea. Also lease rates/finance deals will factor into the decision as well I'm sure.
@niravpatel59945 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply James. It is indeed a difficult choice. I did test drive them both and made sure this was on potholey roads of which, as you will know, there are plenty of in England. I thought the GLE was a bit more cosseting which is important to me, but at the same time it felt more bigger to drive and less agile in the corners. Finance deals here are actually similar. Did the X5 you drove have massage seats? If so, were they worth it? Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated. As I review my own comments objectively, I think it is clear I am leaning towards the X5, bust just want to be as sure as possible I make the right choice. One final question is in regards to the leather you had in the X5. Was it that cheaper Vernasca or the proper merino with the quilted effect? If it was the merino how did it seem to wear? I know it’s difficult to judge over only 1 week but on bimmerpost there have been quite a few concerns raised about a wrinkling effect on the back seats.

The 350 version of this car feels awful. I did an extended test drive yesterday and the turbo 4 just feels inadequate for the size of that vehicle. The transmission seems to be a bit lost as well. The price as tested was $67K (US) and it had a 4 cylinder! I test drove an X5 afterwards, $68K, with the turbocharged inline 6...much better driving dynamics but their sensatec seats are not as nice as MB-Tex. I'm still amazed that you can get these two brands optioned up to nearly $70K before you get real leather or ventilated seating. I'm waiting on the GV80.

Bulbous describes the overall shape/look. Think that extra 15 grand for the e-active body control & curve mode is really good tech and a bit hefty, but then what's 15 grand to the rich? Mercedes Benz and Audi is way ahead of BMW with the interior/up-market cabin feel.
