I think you've missed the whole point on what a 5500 really is for. It's not for a mall or grocery going person. It's for the guy towing over 10k on the regular. For the guy who is going to upfit for its business or heavy duty needs. It doesn't need to be fast, it needs that big gear ratio for towing. It needs heavy duty springs for s very high payload capacity. If you are complaining about how harsh or slow it is, you don't need to be looking at mid grade commercial trucks with commercial tires and wide front axel. Also, you said you used to sell cars yet you don't seem to understand how drive train work for 2500 and 3500 much less 4500 and 5500

the engines are detuned for longevity. the rear gear will make up the difference.

These trucks are used by several RV manufacturers for their super C rv setups...going head to head with the international bodies with the same motors, but the Allison 3000 tranny.

they are Commercial trucks, great for a concrete contractor, landscape contractor, roofers, I own 2 of then and they are the best

Not sure about 2020 but just got a few 2021 5500 rams, great trucks but will say for a work truck it's got a shitty floor, cushy and all for after a long day of workin on your feet , but If your gonna be grabbing and tossing shit and getting in and out like you do in a work truck It looks like it'll wear holes fairly easily

Is Ram going to put an Allison 9 or 10 speed transmission in these for 2021? I am looking to buy, but a few things are holding me back like the uncertainty of the new transmission rumors. The other is the availability of a 4:10 axle ratio for lower engine speed on the highway. It's no longer available in the 5500.

depends on what you need it for. they both pretty much tow the same amounts, however, the 4500 has a higher payload. higher payload is nice because you can keep weight off your trailer by storing gear on the truck instead of adding it to the trailer weight.

Don’t forget now, the ride quality is really bad because it’s still a chassi. Once a service body or whatever is on it it’ll be better but not that great lol. They make conversions to do air ride for 5500 and they are sweet

This is really a basic truck. They didn't put in a bed liner or a soft release tailgate. All my stuff will slide around and fall out. Good video as always. 😎 👍👍👍👍👍

Power output is lower than the 3500. Not sure why the don’t use the HO Cummins.

@@scrapmanindustries really? they derate them? sounds like one more reason to buy it. along with the stronger frame and big brakes compared to the 3500. i want one for hotshot work and id like it to stop with a loaded trailer lol that trucks a true tractor. my question is the fuel economy with em. cant find any info on em

@@vardenfell971 you won't be able to find anything from the manufacturer about fuel economy on trucks bigger than a 1500. it varies to much depending on how the truck gets used and what/where you drive. for example the truck I use for my welding rig used to get 17mpg when it was stock. I put tool boxes on it and now I'm lucky to get 15mpg. when I have my trailer on it I was getting 11-12mpg. now I put a cage around my trailer and I get somewhere around 9mpg. If ram told people you should get 14-17mpg like you should when its stock there would be a lot of pissed off people complaining to ram that they can only get 7-13mpg. so its easier for the manufacturer to just not put out any fuel economy information on heavier trucks. if you're really worried about fuel economy go on forums for truckers and search and or ask other truckers about that specific set up your trying to use and the area you'll think you'll be trying to run in. or try to ask people at truck stops when you see them pull in. but take what they say with a grain of salt. some people like to complain about everything and others like to act like their opinion is the only thing that matters when it comes to trucking. its like that everywhere in the world I guess but truckers can exaggerate things and be dramatic for no reason I feel like. also the 5500 compared to 3500 the 5500 uses commercial sized tires. not the same as semi's but they are larger than the 5500 and can be recapped easier. larger tires means your drive train won't be spinning as fast going down the road assuming your gear ratio remains the same. meaning longer drivetrain life. there are other things that make the 5500 better in my opinion but those are the main points that most people care about.

@@scrapmanindustries alright thanks for the info. you think theyd be able to simulate mpg by just adding some weight to the thing like get close to the max gvwr and drive it on a test track to somewhat get an mpg layout under bad conditions. wish it had some higher gears though. thos 4.4 something gears are really low. but hey cant complain to much i put 4.56 gears in my 4x4 s10 lol

ram 5500 no es un buen truck tiene muchos problemas con recall partes no disponibles ;problemas con la bomba de diesel ,problemas con mangueras del diesel,mucho ruido. les recomiendo que compren modelos mas viejos aunque tengan muchas millas van a tener menos problemas

Why is this kid reviewing a truck like this? I wouldn't trust his reviews on anything based off of this review alone. I own 2 5500s and a 3500 all of which are service trucks at 13,000 or 20,000 lbs and I tow periodically.
