Suzuki shifted the sportbike segment into the next gear with its original 1986 GSX-R750 superbike. Although the category has again upshifted, Suzuki remains true to its roots by offering this mid-grade 2020 GSX-R750 ($12,499) in its US model lineup. Last updated nine years ago, the GSX-R750 remains a capable sportbike for street riders looking to do it all.
--
As always, ease of use and overall friendliness are signature features of this Suzuki. It’s got a low seat height and relatively forgiving ergonomics as compared to other manufactured sportbikes. The ability to tweak the position of the rider’s footpegs and a cozy rider and passenger seat are more road-worthy features.
With a full 4.5 gallons of fuel, the Suzuki weighs just 420 pounds-lighter than many other sportbikes made today. On the road the GSX-R750 is agile, but not overly so. Handling is a tad on the conservative side, as compared to sharper-handling modern bikes, but we wouldn’t necessarily say this is a bad thing. It makes for an easy-riding motorcycle that won’t bite.
Cutting edge nine years ago, the Showa suspension rides well and offers a wide range of adjustment based on weight and handling preference, both on road or the track. The OE-shoed Bridgestone Battlax BT-016 tires perform well, but the technology is more than a decade old and feels more rudimentary as compared to current-generation sport rubber. Thankfully, that can be easily fixed with a fresh set of rubber.
Powertrain-wise, the 750 category splits the difference between the high-revving character of a 600 supersport and the lumpy immediate bottom-end of a literbike. The engine is good for around 130 hp at the back tire. But think of the GSX-R750 as a built, race-prepped 600 with a beefier bottom-end. This makes it ideal for street riding, with a punchy, exhilarating 14,500-rpm top-end.
A mixed digital/analog dash keeps tabs on everything and is classic GSX-R. It’s a tad small so it’s a tad hard to read nowadays, but it is functional and sticks to the basic script of an instrument panel. Although Suzuki was an early leader in the fuel-injection and electronics department, the GSX-R only offers two adjustable engine power modes (A and B). Think of it this way: A is fast mode, B is slow mode.
Triple disc hydraulic brakes offer just the right amount of feel for street riders and are relatively forgiving versus the brute force of a modern superbike. Still, because there isn’t ABS, some degree of care should be exercised during braking to prevent skids over slick pavement.
Suzuki’s 2020 GSX-R750 offers the de facto classic sportbike experience. It offers a level of simplicity and a riding connection that’s missing in modern bikes. And while it remains entertaining to ride, more contemporary sport riders will miss the sharpness and hard-hitting performance that they can get with modern sportbikes.

I did ECU flash, removed cat, added yoshi r11 and changed to stainless steel brake lines with Brembo master cylinder. Rode twisties and track, just pure fun! I have a 2011 GSX-R750 (first year of the new generation) and it makes a good highway and commuter bike and fun in the mountains of course. Lots more torque than a 600 for traffic, B mode for riding in the rain, good wind protection with zero Gravity Corsa screen. Very reliable and strong running and easy to maintain. Recalled 2011 front brake master cylinder and rear axle adjuster block replaced under recall/warranty. Blue and white. Replaced the white front fender with a blue one from the 600 resulting in the best color scheme ever. M4 slip on with baffle sounds great and rear foot peg delete, now significantly lighter than a stock 600. Stock exhaust is long, heavy, and too quiet.

I downsized from an R1 to a 2015 GSX-R750 and it was the best move I ever made in sports bikes, as you could cane the 750, something you never really could with litre bikes, IMO from A to B the 750 is as fast as anything on the road.

Phenomenally underrated motorcycle. Super simple and very lightweight. Incredibly easy to ride consistently on track, very smooth throttle, and easy on tires compared to past literbikes I've owned. A good foundation for making it your own. Add steel braided lines, Brembo RCS master cylinder, a quick-shifter and a set of proper tires, and you have a sleeper motorcycle that will surprise the latest/greatest literbike riders on track. Get a year-old new leftover off the showroom for less than two-thirds MSRP, and you will be happy, even coming from a modern over-the-top literbike (well, I did just that and I have no regrets 😊).

The ergonomics are great as well, probably the most comfortable japanese bike I’ve ridden. My comment about my weight and height are for people who are on edge if they can fit comfortably on it. My boy is 5’10 and he also agrees that it’s comfortable. Well, it’s his bike so I hope so. Power is amazing on this too, if I were to choose a 600cc bike, I’d jump on this instead

I have a 2014 GSXR1000, my buddy has a 2017 GSXR750 and we would switch (during rides) once in while. I wouldn't trade permanently of course, but I think I enjoyed riding the 750 more. It had good usable power around town, and I could get it out of second gear without breaking ALL the speed laws

i feel like it has to be said- ALL middleweight sportbikes (apart from the 636) are a decade old at this point- look at the cbr and r6, those things are older than this! daytona 765 too, same platform for well over 5 years- people don't buy enough of these to warrant investing into the class, hence the slow updates and high prices. shame, i agree.

Just bought a new but leftover 2019 Aprilia Tuono RR for $14,900 out the door Tax,title, everything...plus the dealer threw in a Leo Vince mid pipe LV-10 exhaust and are re-mapping it for shits and giggles. My point is if you are buying a new SportBike for a $12,500 MSRP they should at least update the damn thing. Suzuki doesn’t even seem like they give a shit anymore

@@robertpowers1045 That's a really nice deal, but that's not going to happen in all markets. A quick calculation based on the fees I was told last time I was at a dealer would leave a price of roughly 13k, without the exhaust or mapping. I highly doubt you can get that in the NYC tristate, would be awesome but I doubt it. Edit: 13k for just the bike.

This is a great bike at that price. To all those saying get a used one, you will for sure have to spend money on regreasing headbearings, replacing bad bushings, checking valve clearances etc. You might even end up spending more than what this bike costs new if you wanted to respring/revalve suspension. It just depends on how far you are willing to go to ensure your motorcycle is in good condition. Sure you can ride a clapped out pre-crashed and neglected motorcycle for a lot less. I still do that on my 03 sv650. But if im going to be tracking a similar bike i would either spend a lot of time with TLC on a used one or just buy this one new. Also as soon as suzuki updates this with abs and throttle by wire people will remiss the good old days. If you want all that you can buy pretty much any other modern supersport.

Suzuki's GSX-R line reminds me of Nissan's performance cars. They both come out with great cars, but it's super outdated compared to the competition; like the 370z for example. There's almost no reason to buy a brand new bike apart from the peace of mind knowing the entire history of the bike and that it hasn't been abused.
