Hey Brad, that buzzing that you're hearing after engine shutdown, is the Def system clearing the lines of fluid (def). More important for colder climates to prevent the fluid from freezing.... cheers 🍻

I'm also a 2020 eco diesel jeep owner, that buzzing is the turbos oil pump thats running afterwards to help cool it down to minimize wear. Also I just got rock Krawler springs from Northridge 4x4 n falcon 3.3 shocks. Also since it has the auto stop start it already has a dual battery system from the factory so I dont recommend messing with it other then upgrading the upper battery to a larger deep cycle due to the smaller Li ION battery under the main battery is the starter battery. The computer automatically maintains both batteries charged n auto isolates the larger aux battery from the starter. If you any questions I've learned a lot of the diesels quirks over the last 6 months

Congratulations Brad! Beautiful Rubicon. We are a family of Jeeps however I would give you a word of advice. Go to your dealer and sign up for the extended warranty. After 80K my beautiful Diesel Grand Cherokee which I had all outfitted for Overlanding bit the dust. It started with a plug up radiator at 70K than in the middle of a trip she went into limp mode. All the injectors were plugged up. Had to wait 2months to get the parts as this is a common problem with the diesel. By the way did I mention I live in Prescott and had to leave my vehicle in San Bernardino. The dealer took care of the rental thank god. After 2 months getting her back she started overheating again. This problem is common with all the Grand Cherokees and Ram 1500 equipped with the Diesel. The mechanic at the San Bernardino Dealership said they've been inundated with warranty returns and some folks are faced with the reality of having replacing the engine. It's allover the internet. Needless to say after investing over 80K in this build I had to move on😒 GET THE EXTANDED WARRANTY!!! A loyal follower

Welcome to the eco diesel club. I’ve had one in my Ram for four years and I love it. Like you I live in SD and wheeling in Baja has been on my list big time (love your videos from down there). There is one big problem that I hope you will address on your channel and that is that you can’t drive a modern American diesel down there due to the fact that low sulfur diesel isn’t readily available. My understanding is that diesel sold in Mexico will foul up the emissions of the vehicle causing it to stop running. I’m sure you know people at Jeep that can help shed some light on this. As I said I really want to go down there and would love more information about it.

Hey Conrad, thanks for asking. Of course the 3.0L Diesel doesn’t leave much room or options for the twin ARB air compressor let alone any space in the engine bay. I didn’t want to place in the main cab (noise/space). So I put mine in the storage tub in the rear. I pulled the water plug and ran the air lines and extended the wiring harness. Safe, protected and practical. You could also use the air filter extenders and route them into the main cab, I chose not too. Works great when the top cover is closed and also dampens the sound! Airing up 37”...no issues with air flow.

Damn, I currently have a Jeep Wrangler CRD 2.8 Sport 2D, pushing 220Rwhp, and just shy of 608torque. That’s with tune and headers changed, 3inch exhaust done which is a must for any diesel. Pushing out 23-24max PSi, 35s no need to regear Especially the fact you want to avoid revving high in a diesel. The 2.8s had couple cooling problems so look at oil catch can, clutch cooling fan, oil cooling plate and also vented inner fenders. Would definitely recommend a snorkel for any diesel especially thr fact you’re in the desert and it’s hot like it is here in Western Australia where we reach around 43 Degrees C in the dunes. Would be interesting to see if the eco diesel turbo is a VVT or not. Also with coils, you should look at doing progressive rate springs and you are going to have to go about 1inch-1inch half higher due to added weight of engine and roof racks etc. teraflex coils wouldn’t recommend unless they end up realising some heavy duty ones, I currently just got the piggy back falcon shocks with teraflex coils about 2 months ago. Runs bloody awesome although after putting about 3,675km on the lift kit I have sagged a fair bit all round on the teraflex coils. So would definitely recommend looking at kings, dobinsons, progressive rate, heavy duty etc. Once you go diesel you’ll never go back. Slap a ECU Remap or custom Dyno tune after you get the 35s on and you’ll easily see about 35-60% gain all round especially if you combine it with better inter cooler, snorkel, oil catch can, high flow turbo and etc. I’m truly looking forward to this build! Bit sad they only put a 3L 4cly would be a lot better if it was a v6-v8. Would get way better performance all round. (ps the 2.8 Jeep diesel engines lasted around 300,000km then they often died. Also we have a 81L Tank which would last me currently around 300km on 35s, and heavy foot and throttle controller but I’ve seen someone get up to 750km on fuel of tank on 37s but that’s driving like a nana and also after tune) Best of luck! Truly looking forward to this build series

I have been wheeling the eco diesel for about 2 months now. you will definitely notice a difference in power compared to the 3.6 at the higher elevations aka 12k to 13300ft. for brakes don't worry they have up sized the calipers and rotors . when they did the test the tires make a big difference in distance. when you are wheeling and doing steep grades you will use about 5 gallon every 5000 miles of def. if you have any questions I have 9000 miles on mine and 500 of it on trails

i really like TR's channel. He has done all the upgrades over the years and has so much knowledge. You listen to a lot of other channels and feel obligated to lift your jeep, get fancy suspension, and huge tires if you want to offroad.

Hey Brad, as a Jeep owner of 2 JKs in south FL that often runs with no doors or top. I'm a fan of non-electric seats since we often do trail rides where we get water in the cabin and sometimes to butt level, with doors we'll go headlights level. Today was our first trail cut for JWJ (Jeepin With Sherriff Judd) charity event scheduled for Feb 2021. This is the sixth year of the event. We had lots of deep water crossings. Just remember, you have drain plugs.

This is going to be fun to watch. I just upgraded over a month ago from a 2003 TJ to a 2020 JLUR, but with the 2.0T model. I'm a little jealous of the diesel, but I have had no issues wheeling with the 2L model. I'm excited to watch the rest of the build and see what ideas I may want to use as well.

The Diesel engine seems like the natural choice of options for the Wrangler and the a Gladiator. It should have been in them since the eco diesel came out. I think the eco diesel is gonna be a game changer for overlanding. I wish they would put it in the Wrangler coupe. The only thing I can think of is maybe they think it’s to heavy in the nose of something with such a short wheelbase or maybe it’s to short to put the DEF system in with it.

FCA and Jeep specifically have some pretty talented Engineers that could more than likely make it work. What I'm guessing is that it's a cost disparity thing. People just aren't buying the 2 doors enough to make it worth it for them to do all the engineering and testing with the diesel in the 2 door platform. It's sad to say because I'm a 2 door fan but it is what it is. It's wild when you think about it though, it used to be the opposite, when they were making the CJs the longer wheelbase versions were actually less popular. the CJ6 and the CJ8 didn't sell very well compared to their shorter versions (CJ5 and CJ7 respectively).

If you want to hear that diesel while you’re on the highway, take the freedom tops off and roar through an overpass between 65 -75. They sound delightfully angry-but that is the only way I’ve been able to hear it while driving. It is super-quiet inside, especially with the upgraded sound system that has active noise canceling.

As a GC Ecodiesel owner best advice i can give is if possible see if the latest GC ecodiesel update can be added to your Wrangler,. It lets the cam sensor be used to fire the injector pump when the tone wheel blows apart. ( tone wheel is what normally does this job but when it fails the vehicle is stuck unable to be started, Plus since its on the flywheel/flex plate its a gearbox our job to replace, 18 hours on a GC according to jeep) other than that pretty good engine

Sounds like you have a solid plan in mind. Cant wait to see the transformation unfold.. I bought a 2018 JLUR and went straight to Moab and Ouray in it. Didnt do any really difficult trails and had no real problems in stock form. I did wish for lift and larger tires on Poison Spider Mesa trail. We got home and I did the lift and 37’s but havent been able to get back out to Moab for 2 yrs now. Being an only child and having a 90 yr old mom sometimes changes priorities....

Nice looking and well-optioned Jeep. My 2¢: Longevity questions/concerns aside, my biggest reservation about going diesel is availability of fuel in the back country. If you have a gas motor and run low on fuel, you can borrow/siphon a half gallon or so from several folks and be back in business. Chances are a half gallon won’t seriously negatively impact any one person and if you borrow from a few folks, you may now enough fuel to get back to a source. With diesel, you might have to be totally self-sufficient… at least until others join the diesel-party.

Remote keyless is awesome, no hunting for keys when we are exhausted from a hike or hunting packout. We have the 2.0 and I own a Duramax. On the jeep we love the super quiet 2.0 at off-road speeds with the top open and windows down, especially on hunting trips, nice to sneak in to a trailhead. I would love to see how the jeep handles with the stiffer springs as we plan on picking up a Gladiator to pack in more gear to our extended alpine basecamps and our choice is between the 3.6 and 3.0

Hi there! Well it’s nice to know that you have a diesel jeep, and it’s really the pulling power that counts especially on rugged terrain. But here in the Philippines, diesel is the most practical choice because it is efficient, cheaper than gas and suitable for hauling people, and because we Filipinos take our family or friends out on roadtrips most of the time. And our roads here are not as long and good as to the roads in the US. Here, gasoline is expensive so most people buy diesel powered vehicles.

20 decibels on a decibel meter is what I got. Another guy on KZbin tested with a decibel meter app for his phone and he got the exact same drop as me at 75mph. 90bd to 70db. Either way it’s a lot quieter to my ears and that’s what matters.

You are going to love the LED lights on the Wrangler. I am very impressed with my 2020. All of our work trucks are diesel and DEF is a bit of a pain but you will get used to it. DEF fluid is very corrosive so make sure you rinse it off if you spill some when you are filling up the tank. The painted fenders and top are awesome and I believe that the JL in stock form is about 1” higher than the JK which makes it easier to stuff some bigger rubber under there easier. Well, Canada you say!? I can hook you up with some fantastic fishing if you come up to the central part! I see you liked the trailer I backed up to a couple weeks ago, my wife wants to get that one!! Congrats on the new rig Brad!

That noise is a pump for the def fluid it has to circulate it. And def fluid has an expiration it’s only good for a period of time then it needs to be drained if it sits. It will crystallize in the tank and lines.

Props for mentioning GVW and staying light- many people forget that. I'm curious why you went with the full Pioneer roof rack vs their Vortex load bars if all you're loading on it is an RTT. Making that switch alone will compensate for most of the diesel vs 3.6l payload difference. I also respect your methodical step-by-step tire size process so you can report mileage and performance differences over time.

The buzzing you are hearing when you turn off the engine is the pump for your def fluid pulling it out of the lines back to the def tank. The def freezes at 10 degrees and there could be a problem with it possibly drying and causing issues in the lines.

Brad def has a shelf life and it doesn’t like heat. I learned the hard way on my semi. When def gets hot the water evaporates out and messes up the mixture balance!

I just bought a 2023 JLUR diesel, ive noticed that the stopping power is horrible when you really step on the brake, especially if you need to stop quickly. Ive gotten in the habit of tugging the E-Brake and thats worked REALLY well for me...

Brad, I’m loving your excitement in this. I’m waiting to see what your practical build is going to look like as I will prolly steal some of it. I already have the rhino rack and wheeled with a cvt 2+ tent. It doesn’t make a sound. Also, the Tazer Jl from Z Automotive will disable the keyboard lockout while moving, and also allow you to disconnect the sway bar in 2WD and the rear locker.

Check out the GFC Superlite RTT. Only 80 lbs. It's the lightest RTT and it's a hardshell. I'm going to pre order one and will soon start making videos on building my JL. Enjoy that diesel and thanks for these awesome videos.

Well I hope it works out for you on that ecodiesel. We had a ram 1500 EcoDiesel this last year and it had a big problems. Turbo went out EGR system got clogged. And we drovr mostly highway use with it. Technician at the service department flat told me that the EPA has these diesel so choked up that they plug up easily and that the only way that I would get around from having this problem again was to delete all the emissions. I traded that ram in for a mojito 3.6 JL

hey Brad you said you were going to add in a headliner remember to tint all of those windows even the back ones. in California you can tint SUV rear windows as dark as you want and get a ceramic clear tint for the front it will prevent the dash from getting too hot. i live outside Death Valley and i can tell the before and after when i did mine on my 2018 JLU.

Man, wish I found those seats comfortable like you do. After 100 miles in a Gladiator I knew there was no way in hell I'd want to take a Glad or Wrangler on a road trip.

I have a 2015 Ford Ranger here in Thailand and I get ~ 25 miles per gallon on the highway with their 3.2 L diesel. So you should get a little more with the much better highway systems in the US. The diesel engines are much quieter than the old ones but I love that sound of power!

I love my JLURD. As far as 3.73 gearing, I was really disappointed that the diesel Rubicon came like that. But I’m on 37’s now and tow a 3000# travel trailer and I’m not even considering re-gearing. The engine can handle it no problem. The cooling system is another story-I have to watch engine temp constantly while towing.

So now I have this Jeep, in Granite color and yes the tan seats for me look very good, and when you get those seats they change the dash color to black from red, not sure why. The grand plan for this Jeep is to upgrade it just enough for better off roading without killing my daily ride. In fact the real intent is to get a drivable RV to tow this out west and have that Jeep for fun and running around. On the factory wheels I am getting MPG average of 22.5 I noticed the best speed for millage was 45 - 50 gets you 31 MPG traveling at 70 not so much. What I really want you to find is either an additional fuel tank or larger one. Stock tank is 18 GALS and no one I can find makes a larger one they all say no space. Get rid of that DEF tank and we have room for 5 more GALS!

FYI on the DEF tank, keep it topped off as much as possible. Over time the DEF sensor will get a build-up of dried DEF on it and will not function properly. I'm excited about your new build.

Brad I agree with you on the need of power seats, but what if you have top and or doors off and you get wet whether it be from water crossings or just rain? Another thing we need are cooled seats!! I live in Ohio and tho it’s not as hot as other states, it’s extremely humid and sticky and still kinda hot!! WE NEED COOLED SEATS IN THE WRANGLER AND CHEROKEE TRAILHAWK!!

For what it's worth, from what the dealer has told me no power seats because of water fording. Not sure how they can make an engine compartment water proof and not a heating element but that is what I was told.

It’s called lie on the fly. I asked the dealer why they put the window controls in the center ? He replied “because the doors come off” but the mirror control is on the door. “The mirrors come off with the doors” I said slowly “”So Do The Windows”” then he tried to look at me like I was stupid. “”Dealer B*ll Sh*t””

@@duoglide69 but if you take off the front doors and leave the back ones on. Which some people with dogs do for instance. You still need a way to control the rear windows...if the controls are on the door then you can't do that.

Heating element??? It has heated seats. I’d speculate the larger engineering/expense problem would be waterproofing the electric motors for the power seats. Plus, if you jammed the motors for power seats under there you wouldn’t be able to fit a lock box under there.

Congratulations on the jeep! Looks beautiful! I have heard that before you turn off the car, let it idle for minute or so to let the turbo spool down. Try that, maybe the sound goes away. Enjoy the build

The turbo on diesels spools down quickly at idle. The idling before shutdown is to circulate oil for cooling the turbo bearings. Another poster believes it the DEF pump making the noise.
