This review fails to mention the HUGE advantage the Pajero has (apart from price): it can be driven in 4WD full-time. It is the only one here with a real centre diff which you can unlock, making it like an AWD SUV. Go offroad and lock the centre diff and it becomes a proper 4WD. I test drove one for 700km (Budget rental hire) and it rained most of that time. Swapping from 2H (rear drive) to 4H (diff unlocked) around town and on the highway made such a huge difference to grip and security that I went and bought one. I drive it in 4H all the time.
@jerrymyahzcat2 жыл бұрын
Yes, never bother driving a SuperSelect2 in 2H ever. Not worth it. Negligible cost savings anyway. My LandRover is permanent 4WD. No 2WD option as not required and a waste of time. Always have full grip all the time.
@OiAndyAum2 жыл бұрын
That’s not correct. The Ford Everest is also permanent 4 wheel drive. The is no 2wd mode at all
@wjchivers2 жыл бұрын
@@OiAndyAum Ah thanks, I did wonder whether I was correct in saying that. I did extended tests (Budget rentals) of the Mitsubishi, Isuzu and Toyota but I never considered the Ford because of my previous experiences with that manufacturer (I have owned three Fords in the past, all three were shockingly unreliable). So for me at least, the Mitsubishi was the only one with full-time 4WD.
@MiggyMndza2 жыл бұрын
It's easy to see how they did the judging. As mentioned by another commenter, the Everest is indeed a full-time 4WD and thinks it's an advantage. The great advantage of the SSII 4WD is that you have the option to choose if you want to drive in 2WD, full-time 4WD or low range 4WD. Also agree how Fords can be very unreliable. They're famous for that here in the PH, that's why we're a Fortuner and Montero Sport country. Some buy due to the badge(Fortuner), and some buy based on overall capabilities(Montero Sport). I wouldn't even call the Everest comfortable, heck it's the only one of the four who doesn't have tilt and telescopic steering.

The Everest, I admit, is a great package. I have had two. BUT. If you included reliability in this test, it would have lost by a massive gap. My first one (19.75) 2.0 litre bi-turbo 10 speed blew its engine at 26,000km due to the oil pump failing. Then it suffered from the famous rust problem in every door, bonnet and tailgate. To their credit, Ford replaced it with a 20.75 Trend, which ended up having transfer case issues. A friend of ours had a 19.25 Trend which also had the rust issue. After months of trying to get the repairs to an acceptable standard, Ford replaced it with a 2021.25 model Trend which also ended up having the rust problem and a complete Adblu system failure. They traded it on a new MUX. Another friend of mine had an Everest Sport and it was replaced by Ford for transmission failure. His new one is now showing signs of transfer case problems. The Everest is a good looking, capable package, no doubt about it. But with the well reported reliability issues such as the rust, which Ford couldn't seem to get control of, then it's no more Fords for me, which is a shame, because - for me but not for others - their customer service was A1. So. Investigate the number of people who have had their cars replaced by Ford or are fighting with Ford to get theirs repaired. It's no good having a capable car with lots of tech if the darned things are regularly in the workshop with some kind of major problem. For those cars with some history, their reliability should be included in such a comparison. Additionally, in my experience with owning two of them, the 10-speed gearbox is absolute rubbish. Choppy, banging and crashing through the gears around town but fine on the freeway (fun in Sports mode), it was an absolute disgrace for a car with so much acclaimed tech to have a gearbox like that. Ford even admit there's an issue. When I used to take it to the dealership for servicing, they used to tell me it was fixed by a software update, but it never was. SO the Everest is not such a great car. Hoping for Ford's sake the next gen Everest has solved the problems.

You can travel in 4WD on sealed surface in Mitsubishi Pajero sports with central diff unlocked because of super select 4WD which is safer as compared to some of the other wagon in the market which only offer 2WD on road. That alone should be the reason to consider the Mitsi for families. Moreover Mitsubishi comes with a auxiliary transmission oil cooler and not sure about the rest. According to other reviews done on KZbin about everest, apparently 10 speed auto is not the best in towing as it jumps too many gears while heavy towing on incline. Plus 3.2 litre engine is way better than 2lit bi-turbo as the boost pressure has to be generally high to make the equivalent amount of power. By the looks of it either the reviewers have not tested the cars throughly as 4WD 24-7 Australia or the video is sponsored by Ford and these guys are keen to have good relationship with Ford for future purposes. Not a Mitsi fanboy but these should have been the obvious facts should have been stated in the review. Have a good day!!!

If you want a proper diesel motor - Isuzu. No one ever does a road test in the wet, that's easily going to go to the Pajero Sport with its 4H. That thing sticks to the road like a cat on carpet. Given 10 years how many rangers and everests are going to be in dodgy car dealers with low compression after being pumped huge amounts of boost through them to make them drivable. The drive team do a good job, but in this case it does sound like an ad for Everest. From everything that I’ve watched, listened to and researched, the Fortuner is the superior off road vehicle out of the ones compared in this video. The title of this video is which SUV is the best off road, the conclusion in this video is that the Everest is the best ‘all-rounder’..so, the video didn’t even cover what it was meant to. The other annoying part is that all these tests are done with brand new vehicles…people who watch this now and in years to come are doing so for research on which car to buy now but are also interested to know about value and durability at the 100k, 200k, 300k kilometre mark. Can you shed some light on data about these points in the cars life? Some quality research there wouldn’t go astray. I would go as far to say that the results are already in before a car has even been driven. This review has already been done several times over by various other reviewers and the drive team themselves have already reviewed these cars enough to know. It’s purely content for marketing and business purposes. I understand that this is necessary because we are all trying to make business and money, but make it a bit more valuable and genuine. Finally, for anyone who watched this to know which vehicle is the best off-roader out of the ones compared in this video, then the one that stands out the most from all of the research I have done is the Toyota Fortuner.

@@Deatomizer Cool, that's more anecdotal evidence from your view and no I can't comment because I haven't driven one off-road, but I have driven one on-road and found them to be comfortable. I have driven a HiLux (Off road) and can vouch for that. I have spent a lot of time looking at owners reviews, as well as 'expert' reviews, I've read plenty of forums and whenever I get the opportunity I like to ask mechanics about this subject. From everything I have gathered, the Toyota Fortuner consistently scores better than the Everest in the off-road department and the Toyota engine, reliability and durability also wins consistently from the mechanics perspective. The Fortuner and Hilux underpinnings consistently get reviews having an 'agricultural' or 'truck-like' feel about them and so when it comes to on-road comfortability, the Everest mostly scores better. Personally I have driven an Everest and a Fortuner, however, only for a short test drive from local dealers. To me, they both felt just as good as one another on road; but that's just my view with not much time behind the wheel. Whatever the "known mechanical issues" were that you mentioned; well, i'd bet that Ford have their mechanical issues too; given that mechanics tend to rate Toyota as the better brand when it comes to durability and quality.

We've had countless rangers and Everests in the shop for transmission problems. Everest and ranger don't have a seperate transmission cooler unlike the fortuner and pajero. People who tow regularly with an Everest or ranger should get their transmissions looked at to prevent damage. This video was very Everest biased In every way and totally miss leading. The pajero sport is great value for money with the super select 4wd system. Fortuner holds good resale value, engine is great. Great vehicle. MUX solid vehicle with great interior. If I was to score these vehicles id rate the Fortuner and Pajero sport equal first, MUX second, EVEREST WOULD BE MY LAST PICK OF THE BUNCH. Stay away from the 2.0L 10speeds! The 3.2L 6 speed is a much better buy

That was a Ford advert. If you’re going to have a comparison you generally talk to the features and performance of the other vehicles, pros, cons etc. not a single word was said about any other vehicle. There’s 11:28 of my life I’ll never get back. As a motoring journalist you have to do better than that, you’ve got people like Ronny Dahl that started as an amateur you tube vehicle reviewer and he is literally running rings around these types of reviews.

Typical Toyota fan boy/girl comment. I looked at a Fortuna back in 2017 before I bought the Everest. WIth issues Toyota is having with their engines I'm glad I opted for something else.

I think you should bring the Toyota Lc Prado aswell it is a SUV since the beginning of the prado era, and prado vs fortuner would show us the differences between those suv based on pickups and a properly built sub such has prado

Good advert to pay the bills, owned an Everest and a Ranger. Both blew gearboxes, 110km/h on the freeway and it decides to into limp mode. No thanks! Never again

These are not large 4wds. They are mid size wagons based on small utes that are proported to be big tough utes. The buying public are so easily engineered these days into believe anything they are told by the press. Cars are a classic easily seen through example of this

Ford drives well when it is new. After a couple of years it is a liability for your wallet. I have owned one for 5 years. Never again. That Mitsubishi seems interesting though.

Infact in today's climate this certainly is the greatest shock!.... Over $2p/l for petrol!! It's only short sighted upper Middle class bogans or buisnes men that would be looking to by anything less than electric going forward from 2022.

Ford are smart, put in a nice interior, make it look tough on the outside & a nice driving experience out of the show room & you not only fool the buyer but car reviewers as well!!🤣 These reviews are an absolute joke!

Your judges are full of shit. Off road they are all pretty similar but the Pajero definitely has the smoothest on road drive as well as turning circle. This seems more like an ad for Everest.

The pajero sport was the most cramped of the bunch tho, the one with the lowest outputs and oh, that awful looking rear also.
@devo64882 жыл бұрын
@@w1ldm4n82 Pajero has more space in both second and third rows than Fortuna and MUX, 8 speed gear box, all wheel drive on high traction surface, smoother ride, better turning circle and way more features. I’d trade that for a few kw. People carry on about the rear end but I just don’t see it as ugly at all. That side of it comes to personal taste it’s not an objective thing like the other factors.
@w1ldm4n822 жыл бұрын
@@devo6488 liar lol. The pajero sport isn't even as wide or as long as its rivals in its segment. And if you're just talking about numbers of gears alone, then the ford easily trumps them all.

Don't trust Ford in Australia, a lot of bad history, hanging on with Ranger and Everest. I would have Fortuner /Mux on Par, but Pajero is able to be in 4x4 on tarmac, others part time. previous fords I have owned have fallen apart, customer service, etc.
