I prefer the 550 because: - It's $50k cheaper - It has better ground clearance - It has better mileage - It's actually available (G63 is always on a long wait list)

G63 is too complicated for the exterior design. But 550 looks way cleaner

A lot of people formed their opinions of these on the basis of Savage Garage talking about how horrible the G63 was. It was slow, it didn't drive smooth and was bumpy, it didn't strive straight and on and on. I always like the 550's and even the 500's and the G63's. They were super tough, fast enough and handled well. The Brabus ones are very nice, but also very loud and I never thought they were worth what people paid for them. Then the 4x4 version of these is a whole other level. Extremely capable and they drive like a truck, but not something you feel like you have to fight.

I recently drove the G63. Really nice car and I love the V8 rumble! But the ride is really not great and the wind noise is definitely there when you get on the highway. If you want a luxury SUV there are better ones out there. But this thing is a beast! I’m sure the 550 you drove is 95% of the same experience for a lot less money.

Compared with the other off-road vehicles, the G’s tires just look so disproportionately smaller relative to the body. It’s probably no wonder that it’s easier to steer and it rides ‘like a car’.

The G550 being reviewed includes the AMG front bumper/grill and wheel arches. It's virtually impossible to get a G550 without the AMG bumper/grill package - Mercedes ships all of them with this "option" already installed. I know because I didn't want that "option" and couldn't find one anywhere in the U.S.that didn't have it. BTW - all of these reviews of G Wagon's show the blue/purple interior accent lights - you can change those to any color you want. They still come in blue/purple when you start the vehicle but then change to whatever color you chose after that.

G550 and G63 look exactly the same except g63 has side pipes and over 100+ hp more..

A simpler exhaust mod and ECU tune and you basically have a G63... brakes are another big improvement in the G63.

Those make no sense to me. You barely have any room in the rear seats. It’s almost a two person suv. Horrible gas. Can’t be used for any utility. Still behind on tech yet it’s one of the most expensive vehicles you can by from Mercedes
