The fact that this race had the 2nd most overtakes of any race this season shows how bad the TV direction was considering we only saw what felt like 5-6. I think we would have enjoyed the race a lot more if we saw more of the midfield battles.

Half of those "overtakes" weren't overtakes. Gasly, Vettel, MSC, Zhou, etc.. Falling back after contact and mechanical issues made up more than half of the "overtakes".
@kuyt20
@kuyt20 2 жыл бұрын
@@matthewd6306 Yep. 'Overtakes' in and of itself does not make a race exciting. Its the back and forth battle that does. For example, Verstappen's overtake at the front was so straightforward and easy that it did nothing for the race, other than act as a padding for the generic overtake stat.

We literally watched Russell and Hamilton switching places near the end of the race as names switching in the sidebar graphic alone. We were shouting "what!?" at the TV as it kept going RUS HAM, then HAM RUS, then RUS HAM again

@@hisham_hm As a Vettel fan, I think all I did the whole race was staring at the time bar graphic. Especially in the end, when the super close battle for the points was going on and we didn't really see any of it live. It was absolutely frustrating.

For those who complain the broadcast often doesn't show the front of the race even when nothing is about to happen there you go... too much Max with Leclerc at a distance and a lot of midfield battles missed. It took ages to show the Vettel/Schumacher crash for instance. The race was not that dull, the TV direction made it look so.

This figure has to be including passes made while drivers were pitting and crashed out. If that is on track passing, I agree, the tv directors fudged up. But I don't think so.

TV direction was to blame for the public perception that the race was poor. There was a whole pile of action in the midfield that the TV directors just ... didn't show. Really sold the whole thing short. Not suggesting this was the best race ever, but it seemed like it was an above-average race.

Get multiple tv-directors, at each track. Why only one? Lets have some competition, we'll see what's more popular, and you can change the worst one. (We do this with multiple commentators already, why not with cuts and shots...) Get ALL camera footage in a big database for a LOT of people to make propper replays post race. Get multiple streams going at once (already possible to do with live onboards, I do Picture in picture or second screen w. Max / LeClerc). Add a replay-stream. (There already is a alternative, with Picture in Picture at F1 tv) Only have crowd shots: Picture in picture.

I disagree with Leclerc and Verstappen racing a too politely. I'm very happy that there's no toxicity between the two. Fans keep saying that they want good and fair racing, but at the same time they want drama. Like, come on guys, make up your mind. If you want drama so badly, then why did the Abu Dhabu GP in 2021 get so much hate? Masi CREATED drama by making decisions outside the rulebook, and yet people are pissed. And when things are handled accordingly and things end wholesomely, people complain about it being too boring. Don't encourage the FIA to create drama for the sake view numbers, please. Just let the races develop naturally. However, I agree that the crowd shots were too much. Just cringe and pointless. But I'm happy to see the Max GOATstappen winning. The guy is a once-in-a-generation talent, and he really improved over the years to be an aggressive, and yet a clean driver.

Absolutely. Last year was a shit show. It's great that Max won it but that was not what I call great racing, it was mistake after mistake, dirty move after dirty move from both of them. This is more like Schumacher vs Hakkinen, intense, even, exciting and clean. We don't need more Schumacher vs Hill or Post vs Senna type moments.

I think the FIA and race directors should also be focused on aiding the racing as well though. For example, F1 was better off before VSC - which is so boring. Saftey car is sometimes a bit OTT but at least it usually makes for a thriller.

I'd love to see that pie chart where 1/3 of the broadcast is actual real time, racing and the rest is crowd shots, celebs, replays, the same super slo-mo shot again, drone shots of someone driving down the pit lane and that shot where they pan away from the track to show some palm trees or something.

The company that received the payment from those SPA fans, is not the company that payed to make a fake marina in Miami... Why would you relate those two separate things. The company that did the (IMO dumb) maria did it for profit, and probably successfully so.... She said: "splash money around" But by WHO(not f1/fia), and WHY(to make PROFIT!), and IN WHAT DIRECTION (F1 made money in Miami, they did NOT lose it...). If you want a refund in case of rain, that's something you should have set up before it started raining. Complaining about it afterward seems like: "Lessons learned" Or "for future reference".

30:00 Hey Matt, you can't just easily put together Albon's and Gasly's RB days in one box. Gasly had one full season and 6 six races of experience in Toro rosso before his RB seat. And he did very bad in 2018 at RB. Alex was in his rookie season, only had a few races of experience before RB seat and he did really well in his 2019 RB campaign. So... I'm expecting more brilliance from Albon tbh.

Lap 9: Max's overtake on Charles - watch the Main Race (on Sky or any other platform) and Race Highlights (by F1 on KZbin) - it's easy to find the delay. It's frustrating, to be honest😅.

Tommy may be savage, but he's laying down some truth. Mick really IS performing poorly, and perhaps Mazepin being so bad, and a meme, saved him a bit last year. Yes, Mick is young and yes Kevin is experienced but the guy did miss all 2022 car development and basically all off season, steps in, and from day 1 has thoroughly beat Mick and Tommo has a good point, he wasn't even in full race shape! It's not a good look, and didn't Mick have the most crashes (or at least most damage caused from crashes) last year? Again, he's young absolutely I'll give him time, I wanna see him around. But end of year if there isn't progress we gotta start questioning. And he has a benchmark now in Kevin, not saying he needs to match him but we can see how far off he remains still, the better car and esp better teammate puts a ton of pressure on Mick.
@mikedamico3176

I think it's worth considering that Mick also doesn't have much wheel to wheel racing experience in F1. Besides his teammate he really hasn't had to make any overtakes and I'm sure it'll take some time to adjust to that. I don't think with a last name like Schumacher, he will be going anywhere any time soon, just hope he picks it up quick!

I wasn’t gonna attend the race not because I don’t have money or can’t afford it but it was just not reasonable for me to pay that much money for Miami. I have been to Mexico twice ones in 2015 and 2018. But when I saw the GA campus pass I said you know what I am down. Which I did. I only went on Sunday but it’s better than something. I took my leclerc shirt and was going to take my vettel hat but forgot it at home. I was still going to buy merch at the track. I spent 210 in just two caps a Sainz one and a Lewis one. And spent a total of 35 on food! A stupid sandwich, a Pepsi, and 3 waters. Each water was 5 dollars. It was worth it and everything and I would do it again but at least lower the prices a bit. For sure he couldn't hv done that in a williams Sure, it may not be like Lewis's move to merc from mclaren, but it sure as Heck was an upgrade

I don't understand how f1 fans can find this race or any race boring? I loved every bit of it! An overtake isn't the only exciting part of racing

Seeing comments this race had 45 overtakes. That is shocking, I literally can't believe it. The TV coverage really was dreadful and I say this as an American: I think the concern over hype and glitz and star power and appealing more to the "Drive to Survive" crowd is to blame. Like, we enjoy F1 and want to see that. I dont give a crap if its "eurocentric" or American TV is more used to drama and "look at this". When I want that type of stuff I watch that stuff, when I watch F1 I want F1.

George's decision to stay out was not really a risky one. He was going to finish as least p7 if he had boxed before any safety car. The hards were just not going off and he could have probably gone until the penultimate lap if he wanted to.

Yeah the C2s have shown that after the initial graining phase, they can last a whole race at decent pace. I promise you teams would be doing no stops if they could get away with it in the rules.

Excellent point from Katy about not too enviroment friendly track being built & teared down, really hope americans know how to recycle tarmac and not dumping it in the wrong place. So it will be a try and see tarmac what will work or finally use the parking lot tarmac like Cesars Palace.

Max and Red Bull hasn't had a single PU issue this season except for the sensor issue on Checo's car, yet he still finished 4th. All other issues were fuel vapor lock, broken fuel line, hydraulics, brake fire, etc. All 3 DNFs were non-PU related.

The race was very entertaining. I watched it on the official F1 Stream. Way more to see. The Schumacher/Vettel incident was live on split screen. I don't understand the point of having a 2nd tier TV direction for Sky. Can't you get the offical F1 stream in GB? If not, I am very sorry for you guys, that would be just dumb.

44:15 I think the opposite. Sure, there are a thousand cameras to show footage from and you cannot show everything, because sometimes it's happens simultaneously. But the F1 feed is provided by a multi billion dollar company and they need to do their job right. Everybody does mistakes. But it's hard doing that for 1 1/2 hours straight.

...Thinking on it, as much as people say the race was "saved" by the safety car, it's a relatively low grip street circuit in absolutely brutal weather conditions. If anything the fact that there was only one safety car late in the race was possibly rather lower than what would normally be expected, likewise there weren't as many errors lower down the field as you'd expect.

I’m a local, and the pricing is just normal here in Miami. They did their research and they seized the opportunity. The ticket prices weren’t really affordable either (I couldn’t afford to go, although that’s not really relevant).

So exactly how do you think Sainz was going to stay 2nd? He was boxed in by his own teammate so being more aggressive to try and keep Max back potentially would have taken his own teammate out.

At the start, if he would've squeezed Max left more he likely would've kept him behind and wouldn't have had his teammate right in front of him, more so to the right/front of him. Possibly of course, you never know how it would play out.

Living in Florida for my whole life, I feel like the tv direction was limited to what “REAL” Miami is. Everyone knows that the area where the Hardrock stadium is, it’s not the best for glamour shots. So in my opinion it’s more of a test for what it is to come next year.

The f1 tv angles was absolutely brutal for the Miami GP. There was a crashed missed because the camera was pointing at the sky and multiple overtakes missed because the camera was pointed at the crowd

I made a point during the race that there had to be something wrong going on with the TV direction as I kept noticing positions changing frequently between drivers yet we saw virtually none of them. They really need to stop showing faces nobody knows and crowd transitions when they can't even get the racing consistent. The fact Miami GP had 45 overtakes tells you everything.
