Hey! I did a lot of talking in this video but I hope this video finds someone who really needs the encouragement to make some changes with their clothing possessions! Sharing honesty is not always easy but I appreciate all of you that are accepting and kind in this community. ❤️ What are you working on this week??

I am an old woman of 71 and I am trying to declutter my whole house so my children don’t have to deal with it after I’m gone. Videos such as yours certainly inspire me. I am not a fashionista, not even when I was young so not that much to purge there. What I found really relatable was the pet hair. When I was single I kept finding cats and had 5 at one time. Now I have only one dog left in my pack but she is a Doberman and sheds very little. My past dogs were another story. I would have to scrape every piece of furniture of fur, it was exhausting but I do miss all those wee souls. Midtown Magic Cleaning suggested in a video to check you out. Glad I did! One thing I would suggest is adding mattress protectors and mattress pads to the beds. In another video you said you were going to get the older daughter a new one. I started to do this when my children were small. They didn’t have accidents but you never know when someone is going to have a bloody nose, period or just get sick and it is good for asthma. I am excited to view your other videos, only have seen 3 so far. Thank you so much!

You just perfectly described Swedish Death Cleaning. I have a terminal disease so I'm a minimalist and I practice the cleaning religiously every 3 to 4 months just in case. It's nice to see someone utilize the technique without using it for views while not at all grasping any of the actual concept behind it :}

I have been looking for realistic cleaning & decluttering videos & I am so happy I came across your channel. I also have rooms to declutter & clean & while I want to do it so bad, I don't know how or where to start. While our house is two floors, it is still small & minimal storage. I don't have the extra space to just pull everything out of a closet & go through it. We are that tight. I also struggle with parting from things. Like, I can't afford to throw things away. But it has to be done. I have to declutter my grandmother's & daughter's room that they share ( I have a family member staying in my daughter's room temporarily) & my grandmother never likes whatever plan I have to tackle her bedroom. I'm hoping that when I clean & organize mine, she will see how good it looks & allow me to clean hers the way I want to. I just want to make the room more accessible & safe for them. Wish me luck. I am going to work on my bedroom this weekend!

Yes, yes, yes! I feel I can relate to your reasoning. I decluttered my clothes, shoes, purses... anything that was in my closet. Now I enjoy going into the closet. It amazes me how much of a difference some decluttering can actually change your life. Great job, Mama! We're resolving issues in our home in 2023, not creating them.

Respect for going through all that! We have a dog too. What really helped me with all the dog hair was decluttering. Less clutter means it's easier and faster to vacuum and clean. That means less hair on our furniture and cloth. And grooming our dog really helped. He gets a quick brush daily while watching TV in the evening. A real good brush once a week and a shower with dog shampoo once a month. Way less hair since we have that routine.

I am so proud of you! I think the steps you are taking right now are going to make your life so much easier! And you’ll be happier in the long run! Also for the pet hair I totally understand. In my case I found that once the house is decluttered and easier to maintain tidy, I vaccumed more often and it really helped with the hair on my clothes! But some materials just won’t do it. Mentally I felt so cheap and dirty wearing those and it really weighed on me. Wearing clothes that I feel good in makes ALL the difference for me. Sending you courage for the rest of your journey! Xx from Montreal

Thank you so much. I agree material is important. That’s the new chapter I want with a capsule wardrobe after my weight loss. My daily routine is good now so if I don’t have ton much stuff I agree I have time for the tidy up of the floor. ❤️

I did exactly that with clothes in 2021. After being a teacher and principal for 41 years, I got rid of all the coats, jackets, blazers and suits that I never intended to wear again. I kept ten bottoms and tops about five dresses and ten pairs of shoes and boots. I got rid of slacks which I had never worn because they got lost in the closet. Ten construction garbage bags later I removed them to my basement and let friends have at it! They were told a week ahead so they didn’t miss the day and at the end of that day what was left was disposed of! I was so empowering to be rid of all that stuff

So true. When my mum passed away in 2021 we had to go through so much stuff. It’s so hard to do when most of it was just stuff and we had to get rid of it. It spurred me on to continue to declutter my belongings so at least if anything happens to me at least there won’t be as much to sort. It’s a constant work in progress. Well done on your declutter ❤

For different reasons, I also removed my closet door. What I did was get a small tension rod, put it at the top and add a cloth shower curtain in white with grommets. so it was easy to open and easy to close off. Even a curtain panel will work perfectly. Another thing I did once I did a massive purge of my clothing was to go back 4 to 6 weeks later, and look at it all again. It was amazing how many more things I could get rid of once I had just let it sit as it is for a few weeks. Once again, You did an amazing job getting your stuff together!

Appreciate your honesty. Suggestions: (not that my suggestions matter, but my perspective) 1. Your oldest child's bedroom appears larger than yours? Ever consider swapping? 2. Would relocating your bed in current space give you room? 3. The chute: when you show the basement the piles of laundry is overwhelming for me as a viewer. Do your hubby and/or oldest help you with laundry? Best wishes for a successful declutter tho! No offense intended, your videos are motivational and I been there... where I've just got garbage bags and tossed stuff. Especially when my boys were little...."oh, it's all in the floor? You don't care/appreciate?? Cool, lemme get rid if it." Yet, even as adults, they STILL DON'T GET IT! And, my dad passed going on 2 years, the burden of going thru his over excessive things has been difficult, THREE sheds filled with tools, some in duplicate and triplicate! Currently, it's an ongoing battle with my mom, whose home is also being used as storage unit by family members I've distanced myself from. Mom just don't seem to be brave enough to tell em: get your things outta here... cuz I keep reminding her it'll be ME whose left to deal with it.

I love these videos where you get rid of stuff no longer serving you and your family. And the talking in the end of the video made a huge impression on me. I have not heard an American address consumerism before. It made me so happy. I am sure you will help many people get their homes and lives under control. When I started decluttering I had no idea it would affect my life positive in so many ways. My "decluttering project" right now is my health. Food, exercise, say no, rest enough etc. I look forward to follow you along here on KZbin. 😊
@MomLikely
@MomLikely 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. It’s definitely not addressed enough but unfortunately that’s also because avoiding it is in the pursuit of money through selling. I don’t mind buying and selling but not in place of facing ourselves. Appreciate your comment I was very reluctant to share that and have people be offended. I really hope to help families hop on board the decluttering train and adopt some new habits. It’s helping me do it with others and that’s what I hope comes from it it’s sparking change. ❤️

How I approached decluttering my closet is to bring it all out,figure out what was a reasonable number of each item (sweatshirts, leggings, etc) and then keep the best of the bunch. There was a lot less decision making that way - you are picking the 5 best/favorite rather than making a decision on every single item.
@MomLikely
@MomLikely 2 жыл бұрын
I agree. In the bigger picture it’s a capsule wardrobe but by item. Ideally when I get a new wardrobe I won’t have many of the same item and I will have the reasonable number of tops and pants arrangements. I don’t have much of anything other than stretch shorts and sweaters but my sweaters are also for work clothes so it’s not much. The decision making is a huge problem for people who have to much of what they don’t love to just have more for when something is dirty or missing but I want more people to try less also and just buy what you actually want.

I don’t know if you knew but it’s called Swedish death cleaning. When you clear out most of your junk in case you randomly die the next couple of days/months/year so your family doesn’t have to take time out of they’re lives to do it. There’s books and many KZbinrs that help people with this. Btw I’m new and wanted to say that your videos have helped me so much. I can not thank you enough. The first video I saw was the one where you cleaned out your daughters room. I have a hard time letting go of clothes and toys because I had very little growing up. But you made a very good point. I honestly can’t remember what you said that completely changed my perspective on this year but it was the best advice I ever got from a stranger. Your an amazing mom and I feel like you deserve everything you’re saving up for.

Decluttering is really ongoing but you are right, we at times get wrapped up with the new things or things you see on social media that next thing you know you are buried in the stuff and get angry at yourself for spending that money. I have been really....decluttering for the past few years and although I still have things to declutter I feel like I am getting to a more reasonable stage. However, my husband tends to struggle with getting rid of things and likes to keep things he does not use but....he has made some progress. Just the other day he was going through his closet and getting rid of some clothes that he has been holding onto but now realized that they either don't fit...or not his style any longer....I was really proud of him plus I think he has been watching me get rid of stuff. I too live in the midwest region and feel that since we are inside our homes most of the winter, that is when we notice that we need some space and realize our stuff is taking to much real estate in our house. Little by little wins the race.

Great work!! I love the idea of taking the closet door off so give a little more space to move around - you could add a curtain as a door if you wanted.

That thing hanging in your closet could be used for those sheets roll them up military style. I bought some of those and did that. With all the blankets in each room but mines go over the door

I’m lucky as clothes are easy for me to declutter and I own so few. I’m a single mum of three so I don’t like spending money on myself plus I don’t feel body confident so hate buying clothes. I have the smallest room so don’t have much storage so it’s a good job really lol. I love your videos and you did a brilliant job. 🥰 xx

New to your channel, watched previous videos glad to see you have slowed down the speed a little or it seems as though you have. It is easier to actually view and get inspiration.

You can buy some brackets for the mirror to hang it on your wall or behind your bedroom door.

Really liked the video and your message. Fyi, now that u took off closet door, use door handle to replace bedroom door handle. And instead of getting rid of mirror, get some mirror brackets so it can be mounted on the wall - they cost less than $10. Can't wait for the next video.

👋 hello! Instead of removing the closet door to accommodate your mirror you should purchase a mirror that hanged over the door...the mirror will be safe and neat and your door can stay for a neater look. Nice video!

I took it off because it’s a small space and clutter piles up if the door stays open too. It’s not practical how we have the bed set up. My husband took it off and I toss it. However for the mirror my daughter had that Kim and said she doesn’t want it anymore so I’m going to actually scree it into my wall right there.

My mom passed away last April. My sister, brother and I had to go trough her stuff. (My dad passed away nearly 3 years ago) My mom would never declutter, so she had a TON of stuff. It was so much work to clean it up. I have some clothes from her what I wear with love and good memories. And some other little things. I miss her dearly and I loved her to pieces, but all her stuff was a nightmare to clean it up. Irma from the Netherlands

I hope you and your siblings helped each other. For many especially in hoarders it’s a sad reality for families. Im sorry for your losses. I lost my dad in 2016 , miss him so much.

A little tip I found for getting rid of clothes is if you didn’t wear it in the last 6 months and your not going to wear it in the next 6 months say goodbye, I’ve declutter end so much lately and I honestly can barely remember anything I got rid of and I shoes me how much those things actually meant to me

Thank you so much for this video! I have recently moved and I moved to a smaller home. I have too much stuff and I want to hang onto it just for the sake of hanging onto it even though I’m never gonna use it again, but I don’t have space to do that here if I want to have a clutter free area. Thank you for this video I needed it! ❤ You got me up and doing what I need to do. Wanted to add I also have eliminated a lot of black and navy from my wardrobe because of doggy hair 🤭

I just started watching your videos. My kids are the same age. Love your videos! Anyways for the pet hair on the clothes my aunt and mom use the Bounce Pet Hair and Lint Guard dryer sheets and say they work great. They have cats and dogs. ;) hopefully they work for your clothes.

Love a good declutter, fab video. I love animals and would love a dog but I have OCD and I just know I could not cope with the dog hair. It would cause way too much anxiety for me. I already hoover numerous times a day without pet hair lol 😂 you have motivated me to declutter my wardrobe now so thank you x
