In Cali gas is still about $5 per gal. Some EV offer free charging. You can get 7500 or 11k in rebates off from the purchase price. If using a EV for business they can be a tax write off as well. So an EV the Prologue is pretty comparable to the CRV.
@burntbeanjuic36 ай бұрын
Price of gas aside, if you're vehicle buying decision comes down to running cost you would need to account for the reduced maintenance cost of the electric model, difference in cost to insure, and depreciation across the time you plan to keep the vehicle. But I'd say this cost comparison likely comes second (or more) to the buyer's emotional response to a particular model.

Charging speed is limited by the GM battery design otherwise known as Ultium. Unfortunately for GM, they are in a parallel structure which means they are limited in their charging speeds. It allows GM to stack them on two layers for larger batteries and greater range, but unless the battery is bigger it can only charge at a slower rate due to the parallel architecture. One of the reasons this car is Honda's first and last joint project with GM. They are now working on their own battery architecture and from now on out it will be their own battery and motors. They decided although GM allowed them to move faster into this market, they don't want to be tied to GM's limited charging speed tech long term (probably for other reasons as well).

it would have been helpful to note that Honda and GM unceremoniously ended the partnership that produced the Prologue. All official battery statistics are very deceptive. It’s recommended that batteries be charged to 80 percent capacity. You’re not supposed to fast-charge too often. Failure to follow these two rules on a regular basis will diminish battery life. Furthermore, during winter battery range will sharply decrease, as I discovered with my Prius. Oh, and very hot weather is also bad for the battery.
@normt4306 ай бұрын
Your Prius uses an air cooled battery of different chemistry. Nothing like modern EV batteries.
@CaesarDarias5 ай бұрын
@@normt430I am not challenging the accuracy of your comment. It is true, however, that all batteries are affected by the temperature. Whether it’s a smartphone or a car, too hot or too cold will use up the charge much faster.

With federal and Honda Lease incentives, dealers are taking $13k-$16k off sticker and offering attractive lease rates... the value proposition becomes less of a deciding factor....

While the high price doesn't exactly wow me, at least this vehicle is more normal than the ridiculous BZ4X and the Solitarra by Toyota. However: Major downsides are the plain vanilla interior with cheap piano black plastics, ghastly seats that could be found in a bus station waiting room, and though it has Google Maps, you are locked into the Google ecosystem... no Apple Car Play or other alternatives like Waze. For the price you could buy a Tesla Model Y instead with better charging, better charging infrastructure, and perhaps better heating and cooling of the battery. Personally I would always wait for the second generation of any new product. I'm sticking with my 2017 Subaru Forester for reliability and cost savings.

Who said no Car Play? It has both the Google ecosystem and Android Auto/ Car Play. Actually, it has the best implementation of Car Play I've seen to date. It actually allows Car Play maps on the Driver screen and directions on the HUD. It's not just confined to the center screen....
