I bought a base '23 for $30k OTD earlier this year. A few thousand dollars spent on Falken all-terrains, a hitch, intake, intercooler, tune, shifter upgrades, and it's really a fantastic car for the money that I can use anywhere for anything. After having ND2, S2000, 911 in recent years, it's really fun to just not worry about the car because it's cheap and capable.

@@kamilb8232 The GC8 / GM8 series was definitely a fun car IMO! The 2.0L with the boost coming in hard at 3500rpm was fun (7000rpm redline in the WRX, 8000rpm in the STi -- not that it makes power all the way to there). Not necessarily "the" most fun, but it had a rawness compared to the Liberty B4/GT, which obviously it doesn't have anymore. The Subaru 22B is not that far removed from a normal Subaru WRX STi Type R coupe (or Type RA for the sedan version of the rally homologation car) for people who think the 22B is special! KiwiCarLife put up a video the other week saying the GC8 STi Type RA was one of the most fun cars he's ever driven, there's also a glowing video about the Type RA by Richard Hammond for Men & Motors back in the day! The Type RA scoots through its short gears in a way my long geared GC8 standard WRX never did (or most later long-geared 5-speed WRXs don't)! It seems like a hoot! The Type R/Type RA also had a quick ratio 13:1 steering rack back in the 90's (very quick ratio for the time), I imported one but never fitted it to my WRX, I sold it to someone to fit to their Australian-spec GM8 STi coupe (which didn't have the Type R/RA goodies).

@@KTH96 VW are the worst offenders, they engineer all the fun out for reasons known only to them. Others like RenaultSports and Honda Type R are not quite as numb. The recently discontinued Renault Megane RS Trophy is still relatively lively and eager for a modern car.

Wow, you’ve got Kazoo as your copilot I’m digging it as the WRX has the engine, handling & a beautiful interior - I love how they made the massive screen the focal point of the dash - however, the exterior still leaves a lot to be desired aesthetically. They need to offer it in a hatchback. This is why the WRX is at the bottom my short wishlist. The Acura Integra A-Spec manual is my top choice as far as my prudent aide coming out due to it’s more affordable price. My indulgent side has the Type-S as my 1B choice as my devil variant is on my shoulder to just spring for the Type-S despite the extra loot. I do love the Type-R but as I am older now I am looking for a more refined & mature hot hatch or liftback ; I will go for a sedan though although a hatch is a must. I love my RDX but I despise automatic. I only got it so my ex-GF could drive it but she is an ex now obviously. Manual is a must but I am torn on AWD & again on a hatch or liftback, but it’s preferable. The Corolla GR is like #2 on my list but it has the opposite issue from the WRX. The exterior aesthetics are night despite lack of a sunroof but the Corolla GR’s interior is a bit lacking & plain but it’s not a deal killer. A GTI or Golf-R would be on the list but in VW’s infinite folly they’re killing the clutch which is sad & tragic. So it’s basically between the Type-S or Corolla GR. I’d get the Integra A-Spec if my sensible side wins out but I might as well just indulge & spoil myself. I want to like the WRX TS more but despite all its merits the exterior is still lacking & overall it can’t compete with a Corolla GR or Type-S. Thanks for your videos. It’s helping me do comparisons. It’s a big & difficult choice but either way I can’t really go wrong either way whatever I choose. It’s probably going to come down to what I like best driving & overall reliability metrics. Thanks for your reviews & videos, they’ve helped a lot. Keep up the good work👍🙂

What's frustrating me about Subaru right now is the price. I don't understand how this costs $45k when the 2025 GR Corolla starts just under $39k, and it has 30hp more and front and rear LSDs. Where has that $6k gone? Adjusted for inflation, the 2021 Subaru WRX STI was $44,414.66. So, this not-an-STI is about $600 more. Wake me up when it's putting out 300+ hp and has front and rear LSDs and a DCCD for this price.

My favourite part is how Subaru has had that digital cluster in production for Japan only since 2020 but they've been gatekeeping it because they dislike exporting cool things, everyone has been complaining that the analogue gauges are either okayish or cheap-looking and too busy with information plus the screen is so small it's hard to read and make no sense for the CVT eco boxes where seeing the RPM do funky stuff is an eyesore, the only car the analogue gauges make sense on is the manual WRX where you want the RPMs always visible and easy to see physically, and yet here we are, the first Subaru outside Japan with the digital gauges is.... a manual WRX. It's like they saw the tS, and said "yeah we need to make at least one dumb decision"

@@morallyemptycorruptedmaggot so much easier to read, digital Subaru ones display maps on them, driver assistance info. The analogue gauges in the Forester, Outback, Crosstrek are just hideous as those cars are slow, CVT flares the RPMs, and there is so much junk crammed into that tiny LCD display in the middle it's horrible. The digital clusters are ten-fold more legible, and with maps on them it's just straight-up safer having that info closer to the road. For WRX, especially manual, analogue gauges made the most sense, yet it was the car that gets digitalized first.

Open Letter to Subaru for the 2026 WRX Soft Refresh: 289Hp (Why this Amount? the Elantra N's MSRP is $33,700 for the same Power at Crank)., Brembo Brake Package available for Prem Trim and Up, STI Transmission Optionally Available, Instead of BRZ Rear Pads being standard.. maybe give it some Bigger ones.. Just saying, No Exposed Plastic Cladding (The Levorg Looks A lot cleaner having no Cladding you know) and lastly Fully Painted Bumpers / Rocker Panels This is all you had to do in 2022. The trims could have remained the same. PS: The Ascent has 277ft lbs of Torque, and you tell people to Tow (Light things) with it. So.. is there a Reason that the SPT was detuned to 250 even though youre utilizing the same gear box but modified? The S4 was always quicker in Japan.. US Can't have this? You guys don't think this would help sales? Im pretty sure you can achieve mpg efficiency and have a higher power band. Whether the CVT or the Manual, the Car can Safely Handle 289hp at crank, and would have shown much Improvement to the Legacy of the WRX Model Year. Theres no reason why the Current WRX Can't be Quicker than a 2007 Hawk Eye WRX. No Matter what Deal you have going with Toyota, Certain People Do Not Care that the GR Corolla Exists. We are Waiting for a Proper Non-Outbackified WRX from Subaru.

The valved exhaust tended to pretty blatant cheats (e.g., on the Porsche 911 the valved closed at 55kph and opened again at 65kph, since the driveby noise test is at 60kph) which don't fit Japanese culture of being polite.

A bit expensive if the tS does come in at the mid 40s, lower trim might be the answer there. I thought the looks would grow on me after a few years but nope I still really, really don't like it. The front is ok but the side and especially the rear are just terrible. At least in black(purple?) the big diaper on the back doesn't stand out as much.

I usually shift between 2,000-2,500 when cars cold, then when it's up to temp usually between 3,000-3,500 casually driving, Car seems smoother when shifting at those rpms and you're usually just a tiny bit below peak torque on the power band in the next gear. Haven't redlined mine in a while, but I'm sure it can handle it well if it's all up to temp with decent oil and proper fuel. If the cars tuned for more power there's a point where the transmission can have issues.

You can get a lightly used C7 Corvette for $45K and blow the doors off the M340. See how stupid this sounds.
@xFlared
@xFlared 12 күн бұрын
@@layne4376 That's a bad comparison. A C7 is a full blown sports car designed for track with little space and spartan interior. M340i is a luxury sedan that fulfills similar needs to a buyer of this WRX. A WRX that has the same powertrain from the 90s. What's worse is that a 2024 Golf R brand new costs the same as this. New power train, AWD as well, more luxurious interior, 1.5 seconds faster to 60 and better handling.
@hhaste
@hhaste 12 күн бұрын
@@xFlared And all new VW's have terrible quality control and many other problems. The WRX is highly tunable and customizable, which is what the audience for these cars want. It also have a manual transmission option, which the 240i does not, and that alone is a deal-breaker for many. Someone that's buying a 340i isn't going to build the car. That option is encouraged with the WRX. It's a great starting platform to modify. Many other cars will always exist, it doesn't mean it's the correct choice for everyone. Options are good.. and I for one would want a brand new car with a warranty over a used car for the same price. You can enjoy a 340i and I'll enjoy a WRX and we can all coexist happily..
