Funny story: I work in the oilfield here in Alberta and my shift is 3-6 weeks on, one week off. Thanks to you, in my last set of days offI bought a CVA Scout in 45-70 (last day off). I just returned home and this weekend I was going to Public land to try it for the first time. I wear prescription glasses, so I can't share mine. My dad did not have safety glasses, so I stopped at Home Depot and bought him Milwaukee safety glasses! Unfortunatelly when we arrived at the place we usually shoot, there were signs all over that as of last month there is a temporary ban on firearms use there and we wasted the trip. I had go show this video to my dad, laughing about the coincidence of you wearing the Milwaukee glasses! Well, I can't wait to try both, my 7mm Rem Mag and the 45-70.

When I picked up a secondhand browning BL22 stainless 6 months ago, was hesitant about running shorts, but never had one feeding issue with it. Touch wood. I’ve mixed up CCI shorts 710fps, CCI long 710fps, CCI standards in the tube and a huge mix of other supersonic LR. Best thing is can fit 23 shorts on the magazine but for the price, the CCI LR 710fps are cheaper than the shorts for quiet shooting. I use it for around the farm where I don’t want to hear the supersonic rifle crack.

I bought a Henry lever action .22, and when I tried it out, the action was so bad that I couldn't cycle LR rounds! I took it back to the dealer and they sent it back to Henry. A few weeks later the rifle came back, and the action worked perfectly. Super smooth even with shorts! In Oregon maybe because of proximity to CCI/Speer Operations in Idaho, we can often readily get varieties of CCI shorts. Contact Bi-Mart our employee owned Northwest department store- they always have the lowest prices on ammo.

My father had a Savage-Stevens tube fed auto loader when I was a child (60 years ago) which would run LR, Long and Short. But the longs and shorts would not cycle the bolt so there was a handle on the bolt which you could push into a slot to turn it into a bolt action to run the shorts and longs. It was odd in that the action stayed open after each shot until you released the trigger. Had a bull barrel and Lyman target sights. I took out thousands of gophers on the farm with that thing when I was a kid but my goodness it was heavy for a ten year old. I got a penny per tail which was probably more than the rounds cost back in those days but it kept me out of trouble and taught me marksmanship. Good times ...

All 22's are fun. Adding capacity with the little shorts and longs adds to the fun. Many years ago I used the 22CB Longs for pest control in the yard. They were exceptionally quiet and were plenty accurate for pesting inside 30 yards. Today we have even better quiet rounds in 22LR but very few are as quiet as the old 22CB Long rounds. I may buy some 22 CB longs again and compare them to the CCI Quiet rounds and other subsonic rounds I have. The most quiet I fired in the past were the old (30 + years ago) Remington CB's which Remington call its 22 Long CBees

I used to shoot short, long, and long rifle in a couple of different guns, but the prices changed, and in my area of the country, long rifle became quite a bit less expensive than the other two. Last time I checked, shorts were a dollar a box more than long rifle. Keep on shootin' Adam. Now you're down in my caliber!

As always that was a really fun video. Thanks for the content I’m not a fan of lever guns but I want a 22 that I can shoot with low power rounds in a populated neighborhood without disturbing everyone. I would rather have a lever gun than a bolt action or single shot so this video is pretty interesting to me. The old 22 rifles I had growing up would shoot anything I don’t know why these modern ones don’t. I had a marlin semi auto that would shoot short long or long rifle in semi automatic it worked perfectly. It probably would not run low power loads like I want but still it ran full power loads. I can still find shorts all the time but they are usually low power shorts either way as always your videos are fun and I love how wholesome and honest you are. I have had great luck with savage rifles over the years my older ones seem better than the newer ones but the new ones still are pretty good. Shooting .22short in .22lr rifles fouls the chamber and the rifle might not like to return to lr without a deep cleaning of the chamber. According to someone I talked to recently the fouling around the chamber head is hard to get out. The result being feeding and accuracy problems and the cases sticking/hard extraction. Some rifles are marked .22lr, long and short, those will run all but you still have the fouling issue. BTW if you really want a silent .22lr load look for "Zimmer" or "Z" ammo. They shoot a 30gr bullet at ~50J, those are more silent than a spring powered air rifle.

I enjoy .22 short honestly. I inherited a Saturday night chambered in it and its stupid reliable 🤣 weirdly i come across more .22 short than i do magnum here in North Florida, seems like its everywhere from Curry Thomas Hardware, to walmart, and every sports shop. CCI, Aguila, Armscore, are the most abundant around here and the CCI is typically .22 short CB which from a rifle is literally more quiet than any suppressed weapon ive fired 🤣 I like that i can have 500 rounds just inside a small pellet rifle ammo tin that fits in my pocket. I wish .22 Mag was as prevalent here as .22 short or lr because its just one of my favorite all around cartridges because im getting basically .22lr rifle performance from a shorter barrel and when i throw it in a rifle i get better performance. People complain its expensive but its cheaper than other magnums 🤣🤣

there's a smooth boor sleeve that the casing slides into where the projectile meets the rifling. be careful with shorts as you could foul that sleeve and cause wonky patterns going back to the longs I'm pretty sure. aside from that, yes you could throw a .22 short in there cause its still a .22 chamber but if you throw a long in a barrel that is meant for shorts, you get over expansion of the casing and sometimes blow outs where it splits the casing or blows the back off the casing depending the chamber setup.
