I have an 8922 RE four-cylinder, and it still runs beautiful. I’m the second owner so the motor doesn’t get abused. But recently the idle started going down really low, especially after driving when I shut it off and then started back up it’s sputters until you give it a little gas and clear it out and it drives just fine no matter what the idle is. But it’s only after it warms up so there’s something around the throttlebody area. I’m going to try this, I hope it works. I already did a tuneup with plugs plug wires cap and rotor etc. I’ve already see foamed and cleaned the throttlebody. If what you showed me doesn’t fix it, at least it still runs great. It’s just one of those things that bugs

Sadly there are many things that can cause a 22re to have idle issues. Check the timing. Have the battery and alternator checked. Then you just have to start verifying everything. Could be something simple like bad oring in idle air adjustment screw. Pocket of air in the idle air control valve. Would check everything that can cause a vacuum leak. A leak down, and compression test will should eliminate things like valves, and fuel injector leaks.

So a week later I unscrewed that thing counting the turns on the way out so I can put it back to stock. I tried spraying it with some kind of PB blaster spray to rejuvenate the rubber but it didn’t do anything. I finally did it a couple days ago, when I tried to get the old O-ring off that thing wasn’t moving. I had to chip it out and it broke off in the three pieces. It’s so old it was like a piece of hard plastic. I lubed the new O-ring which I just bought from a car parts store, they Had an assortment and I just picked one that looked the right size because I was holding the part in my hand as well. I bought a couple different ones because they were cheap enough just so it would be sure to work when I get home,and threaded it in and backed it off a total of three turns back to where stock was and it’s perfect now. Thanks for the video, it starts up and idols beautifully even after it’s warmed up. No problem at all and it seems to run stronger. It makes sense that that’s where they was getting past the old O-ring that wasn’t accounted for by the mass airflow sensor. Just like if you do some kind of vacuum line up there or something, it won’t run good because the mass airflow sensor is an accounting for that much. Just like a vacuum leak

Check plug wire order if the distributor or wires were removed. After a timing chain, guide, pumps, and cover was put on the engine shook violently from side to side. 2 and 4 weren't firing. Swapped plugs around and it runs like a champ now! Remember all the little things.

oh man be careful with that rubber intake hose that will crack really easily after 20 years and you'll get a big vacuum leak from that.

I have Toyota Pickup 1994, left unused for three years. Now starting to use it, but it has rough idle, and sometimes stalls at a stop light, or even while driving it just dies. It can start up again easily, however. Cap and rotor replaced, no difference. Was thinking of replacing sparks and maybe spark plug wires too... but seems I should also clean out that throttle body intake area with some seafoam and toothbrush scrub around that flap?
@tubejim1013 жыл бұрын
If it has been sitting, it most likely has water in the tank. Run a few bottles of this through it: amzn.to/3myz4r7

@@tubejim101 When I drove it the first time with old gas (about 1/3 tank of old gas), it was running rough, but it didnt appear to hesitate while driving. Then I filled the gas tank with new gas tank (about 1/2 tank of new gas) and that's when I noticed the rough idle got worse and it seemed to want to stall ( and did die at a stop light, and also when I had foot on gas pedal while driving)... so I guess mixing old and new gas is bad and maybe it has water in gas tank after sitting so long as you mentioned... ok, I will give HEET a try (I did pour seafoam into the gas tank afterwards, but it didnt seem to help... maybe need a few more days to driving to let Seafoam course thru the fuel lines.. will it clean my fuel filter too?)...

@@tubejim101 Oh, yes, I happened to have also got Marvel Mystery Oil when I picked up the SeaFoam product the other day at Walmart. I poured Seafoam into the gas tank, and a little MMO into the oil opening on the throttle body (the old oil inside is thick black, I think I need an oil change soon)... I've yet to pour MMO into the gas tank, maybe I should do that next, and also with HEET... hmmm...

@@be236 Sitting so long, some of the fuel injectors may be sticking. Hopefully that will free them up. If nothing else, will help your fuel pump.

I just changed out new tps and COR. It started up with very low idle( almost dying) unless I give it some gas to keep idle up. A few moments later truck won’t start unless I crank and give gas. To keep running I have to constantly give gas and if I don’t, truck idles and dies. Any suggestions? I took throttle body off and cleaned thoroughly

Don't play with the ac screw. Set your idle with the idle screw. My truck is setup for ac, but the compressor has been taken out, before I got it.

Three things you need to check, and you will need a multimeter. Cold start injector thermo time switch. It controls the cold start injector. You can check it with multimeter. Coolant temperature sensor. Not the one for the gauge on the dash. This one sits right beside the thermo time switch on the front of the intake. Check it with a multimeter. If those two sensors are ok, pull the cold start injector, and see if it is clogged up. They can get real nasty looking. tubejim101 has another video that shows how dirty it can get. Try to clean it, or take it to an injector shop for cleaning. In the Spring of 2017, my 92 22RE was not not starting right. It would take three or four times before it would fire up. Once it got hot though, it would crank first turn of the switch. My thermal time switch was bad. The thermal time switches are very expensive. I bought a Beck Arnley thermo time switch from RockAuto hoping I would get a re-boxed Toyota part. Opened the box, and got the Toyota part in a Beck Arnley box. Yes I was lucky.
