I appreciate your honesty in documenting your journey in personal style. Most fashion youtubers act like they got it figured out and are here to teach everybody and often times come off as too prescriptive and inflexible. While you definitely limit yourself in what you think you can wear, you are refreshingly honest about those things and are clearly trying to work out the reasons. That said, you already have some cool and unique pieces (or at least you reviewed those). I think those are your distinctive style characteristics - separate cool pieces that you appreciate for what they are. Photographs of famous people from the past, while a cool inspiration piece, are almost never resulting in unique looks (by definition I guess). Hope you find your look that will make people copy your style, rather than copy the style of the photos you copied the style of of. Also, summer just sucks, you have to embrace the options that make you sweat less and wait till fall haha

Great outfits but I agree. In Portland, OR this summer and I would boil alive in jeans, LTT boots, and Oxford shirts. Light colored things show sweat on me. White bottoms I always have to worry about and look worse the more I wear them. Very light chambray or linen or Madras/poplin cotton shirts, great; in darker colors. Synthetic (like hiking) or cotton shorts or 3/4 pants, sure. Very lightweight cotton or linen pants (6-8oz fabric), sure. Birks. Sneakers with very low socks (not white shoes, mostly). Tank tops (I was also a shirt-in-the-pool kid but because I'm beastly hairy and need to manscape before tank wearing).

Hi Michael, if you don’t like the wrinkles in linen, I strongly recommend either full tencel/lyocell or a tencel linen blend. It’s just as breathable as linen (sometimes actually more so in my experience) but doesn’t wrinkle and has a really lovely drape to it!
@eyespy30014 ай бұрын
Hemp and hemp/cotton blends for the win. Breathable fibers that don't wrinkle anywhere near as much as linen, and hemp holds its shape incredibly well.
@zfehnel4 ай бұрын
Michael, you look awesome in oxfords. I also suck at my summer style. I'll admit, I've gotten into linen this year and I definitely get it now - It really is more comfortable. I did get some nice blends, and those don't seem to wrinkle as much as my full linen shirts. (Linen and Lyocell - they're pretty great)

Here to show some support for the humble Oxford shirt! I hope you got a couple from Uniqlo because they are simply the best button down collar shape in their price range for miles. I also have a couple Taylor Stitch oxfords and for whatever reason their collar just sits unnaturally with no elegant roll like Uniqlo's. Also I almost ALWAYS roll up the sleeves and have some of my very long oxfords tailored to shorten them for untucked wear. This really helps take the formality down a couple notches. Last thing, those Uniqlo pleated trousers look amazing with their linen shirts tucked in and a few buttons undone. Personally I wear a tank top underneath.... even though I was a shirt in the pool kid as well.
@knifenutsdave4 ай бұрын
Taylor Stitch's oxford collars are much too short, even J.Crew has a ~3" collar that allows for some roll. The Taylor Stitch. Collar length makes much more of a difference than people realize

Every year I try and see how much further into summer I can make it before shorts are a necessity and with them, the curtailing of outfit options. Shout-out to Buck Mason though, I've gotten a few pairs of pants and shirts from them recently and they have been fantastic. The measurements have been spot on and the stitching quality has been there. Only problem is even 9.4 oz cotton trousers feel to warm in 85+ degrees with 70%+ humidity.

Great video, nice to see a bunch of different summer options. Question for you - are you seeing cuffed pants start to go away more significantly this year? I noticed minimal cuffing, more full breaks in this video. My go-to with my jeans the last few years has been a single crease cuff that's a few inches long, with crew socks underneath - but I also don't want to lose touch if that's starting to become off-trend. Thoughts?

Those khakis fit really well/look great on you. Please keep them. This wider, relaxed fit trend is doing a lot of us “average framed” guys dirty. Sure, the boxy cuts look great on the tall, jacked models (because everything does). For the rest of us it just kinda ends up looking frumpy or like we’re swimming in fabric or like we’re kids borrowing our dad’s clothes. I’m a lazy guy and only 5’7, so it’s fit and quality over everything else for me. I mix in modern touches with texture and pattern, sure. But it’s oxfords (Bonobos makes a short length) and polos (texture for style or tech for heat). 7” inseam shorts that don’t make my legs look like toothpicks. Simple white or tan shoes. Birks if I’m feeling frisky doing errands.
