Always enjoy videos on the under appreciated 25/06. I have hunted eastern whitetail with a Ruger M77 in 25/06 since 1980. That rifle has never failed me.

Thanks for the review again! There aren't too much info about 25-06 so it is def helpful. The 25 Creedmoor is getting there, hornady is already making factory ammo and bullets. Hope you get them reviewed soon!

I am usually late to the party of new calibers except for the 6 ARC. I like to see if the new cartridges have great success. The key to new cartridge success is if brass is readily available through several companies.

Really good comparison. I didn’t realize the CM could compete with the 25 in velocity with the same weight projectiles. That’s pretty impressive from a short action. Those projectiles at those velocities work well on whitetail deer inside 300 yards.

Seeing that BAR in .25-06 is awesome. Growing up and hunting all my life in the Northwoods of Minnesota, pretty much everybody had .30-30’s or .30-06’s, and that was usually a Rem 740, 742, or 7400, or some lucky guy had a BAR. I literally didn’t know for a long time that you could get a BAR in anything other than .30-06. Same with the Remington’s. I was shocked when I saw one of my cousins, who hunted the farm fields of Southern Minnesota, 742’s in .243. Lolol.

Thanks Dave for another awesome vedio. I Love 1/4 Bore I have several coustom calibers in 257cal. I have a question for you Dave . Have your tried any of the heavies for 25-06 ? The BC on the 140-163gr is out of this world. I have a standard 25-06 & 25-06 Ackley improved. My 25-06 with 145gr Black hole bullets at 2850fps 0.2 inch groups. Im my Ackley improved 25-06 156gr at 3008fps getting 0.4 inch groups. Iam about to try some wildcat bullets that are 163gr In my 257-300 PRC that should arrive any day now . Numbers show with my 27.5-inch barrel I should see 3300+FPS . What do you thank about the new heavies for 25 caliber ? In my opinion it makes the 25cal. King of the hill . The 25CM and 25-6.5 PRC 25sst 25 SAUM are killing it in the field and in competition. The BC on the 156gr 25cal. Blows the doors off the 156gr 6.5mm . And the 163gr 25cal the BC is untouchable unless you step up to the 200gr 284cal-7mm . I know you like speed in my 25-06 Ackley improved 101gr hammers 3506fps with 1/2 inch groups . I like long barrels on my rifles 26-30 inches long gives me greater velocity and better powder burn 🔥 . The beauty part I have zero pressure signs so if I wanted to I could bump my speed up 100+fps but why should I when all my groups are under 0.5 inch . Looking forward to hearing back from you. God bless you and your family God-bless America 🇺🇸 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇨🇱🇨🇱....GO TRUMP GO

You have "Much more" experience with the .25 cal. ammo and chamberings than I do. My 25-06's have a standard 1-10 twist and configured for 80-120 gn bullets. I found the 100-117gn standard shorter bullet weights do work very well and maintain flat shooting for hunting. I do not compete therefor I stay within my limits for Antelope and deer size game. The upcoming 25 Creedmoor does sound intriguing and will probably be chambered for the longer higher BC bullet weights that you mention and in a short action.

What a comparison, some of the better bullets that 25-06 barrel can stabilize vs some of the poorest bullets for the 6.5mm. And still at 400yds that stacked comparison in favour of that long action cartridge puts it fairly comparable to that smaller more efficient cartridge.

Contrast is a better description, as both perform very well within their intended purposes. This video was just to demo contrasting semi- auto action rifles and 100gn vs 100gn Nosler BT bullets. Thanks for your comment here and for watching.

I'd like to see you compare your Bear Creek .243 to these two (even just on paper/ ballistics comparison) I'd bet the .243 is right up there with these two, as far as speed/ energy ;)

In my personal experience with both on deer the 25-06 is a superior cartridge. It just works better than what paper shows. For me it just drops game in the tracks far better than the 6.5cm. My experience with the 6.5 has convinced me that I’m a lousy tracker!!! I never knew that when I hunted with the 25-06. 😂

Same weight projectiles with 2 different calibers, the smaller will always have better bc's and energy. I might be wrong but those 2 rounds are super close

Now you’re talking dirty!!! I stick to my Amish machine gun 7600 pumps, though. My go to is the 30-06. I’m taking the 35 Whelen pumper out this year! Both will shoot groups that touch at a 100 yards pretty consistent with hand loads. The 25-06 would be my choice of your two. Good info Dave.

How do the two rifles compare in weight? The 25-06 was the first chambering in a centerfire rifle I ever bought, Rem 700BDL, but that BAR get nostalgia points as well. MSRs, whether AR-15 or AR-10 sized, get points for modularity. I would rather be in your position, where I have both and can take whichever my mood decides. A lot of "hate" has been given to the 6.5 Creedmoor, but those NBT bullets should perform equally well on game at the range limit you described.

AR-10 platforms tend to be 2-5 lbs heavier depending on configuration and materials ie aluminum, steel and or carbon fiber.

@davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009 2lbs heavier than the BAR is not too bad, but 5 could be too much.

It would be cool to see stabal match with 150 grain Nosler BT in 30-06 for a comparison of a 308 info you achieve. A lot of people see those low numbers published by Hodgodon for the 30-06 and match but I believe they’re wrong and most people do assume that it won’t perform. Also I can’t find any information out online or on KZbin about stable match and the 30-06.This would be a good comparison and would probably get a good amount of views.. The thing is that that powder is for heavy for caliber high bc bullets. I personally have gotten the Speer impact bullet 172 grain to go over 2900 FPS from my 30-06 stabal 6.5 and not close to the max powder charge . I did consult with hodge on about the load with this bullet. I just have not had time to work up a load yet with match .but I’m sure the sd and es would be lower with match with as much as 80 or more FPS over Hodgdon load data.
