I came here to say this. I have just tried it, and this transition had never made this much sense before. I think it had been the hyperextension of the wrists for me (which mine are pretty finicky, to begin with). This feels so much more fluid.

I love rolling my toes in vinyasas! I think it keeps the vinyasa much more fluid. Yes, with my limited back extension I do have to slide my feet back when transitioning from chaturanga to upward facing dog. I think I even honed my technique of doing this from one of your earlier tutorials either here or on Instagram! So, thank you for that!

You're so great at what you do and your yoga videos are a pleasure to follow along to. I'm also loving these short infodumps (they're much more sophisticated than a dump I just couldn't think of a different way to describe it haha)

my mind is BLOWN. i've been doing yoga for several years and i was arrogant about being able to roll over my toes in the chaturanga transition 😅. i've filmed myself just now and my wrists are slightly hyper extending. not as much as to hurt, but enough to have an impact long term. love when the yt algorithm brings me such a gem of a video!

Great video and instructions! Thank you so much for making and sharing it!! I am struggling quite often with my down dog, and ask myself if I am positioning my bum correctly. This explanation definitely helps me to better understand the best positioning of my lower part of the body - and I think that this adjustment will also help me to improve/straighten my low back "curve" which I have when doing downward facing dog. And yes, chataranga is a really strong pose and I should stick to doing it with knees on the mat (I am still a yoga beginner). Thank you once more for the video 😊 Namaste 🙏

Thanks for giving mind to feel!! Soo cool! Been doing yoga for years (over a decade), and I tend to 'feel it" and just work with that. My philosophy was just, "Well, so what if that body does it that way. Every body is unique!" and, that was my inner motivation if I didn't follow instructors pin-point. Now, learning there are all these "whys," while making me more comfortable to adjust accordingly in classes, also makes me feel much more nervous for guiding yoga classes! lol, but.. I much appreciate these videos. Super cool! 👍👍

...and as Chutterunga is often repeated many times during a yoga class, if your form (technique) is not good you’re likely to create injuries. As an allegedly strong looking man who has done many a chutterunga, I’m not afraid to revert to performing the move on my knees or skipping every second one if I have an injury or something’s not feeling right.

Omg love this! I learned it was a huge no to say roll on to the tops of your feet in YTT for the exact reasons you mentioned! When I cue the transition from chatarunga to up dog, I say, “Flip to the tops of your feet, push the ground away from you as you shine your heart through, finding your upward facing dog.” I’ve seen that my students still keep their form while transitioning 🤍

It seems to me that a lot of things in yoga are "rarely discussed" when it comes to poses and how to get there or how to get out of there. It's as if the instructor thinks that talking about it makes it less yoga-like or something. Coming from a dance background, I hate the way there's seldom actual instruction on poses.

From my experience, rolling over the toes in caturanga, tobe discreet, helps not to squish the bits 😅when lowering, if my hips lower before my heels, the angle causes them to swing forward and get crushed by the pelvis.

I have arthritis in my feet, hands and wrists, but I have a really strong and flexible back. I can do the rolling the toes, I find that it puts my upper back nicely in line with my arms and wrists. But I never do it, in order to control better and place securely my hands on every step, then I just put my feet wherever I'd like them that day.

Hi there. Thanks for the video I am tall and long armed so I finally understand why I find chataranga so hard! Can you please advise on if you drop your knees for chataranga what is then the best way to transition from there to upward dog? Would you lift your knees again and then transition to upward dog or transition to upward dog with knees still on floor and then lift them? Thank you in advance if you do see this and are able to respond! :)

Thank you for taking out of yoga instruction the "must do it like I (svelte young instructor) do or you're a worthless old hag (me in my fit 50's but now a truly worthless old hag of 70)"! Arthritis in wrists doesn't allow for flexing them to 90 degrees with weight on them for more than a few seconds. And I won't even describe getting up from and down to the floor! 😜🙃🤣

Or maybe not even teach Up Dog in anything less than a level 3 class. Almost nobody gets the combination of latissimus/serratus/abdominal engagement right until they have mastered a number of other skills, and UD ust becomes a sloppy way of not really practicing anything very much at all. I'm quite swrious. Teach people to master Cobra first.
