Especially the Rockrooster, which has an actual vibrams sole. I've had a wolverine "durashock" sole before though, and they do last a long time, at least those center pads do. All that white sole will wear down and round over around the edges and those big pads in the center will still be in good shape. But for 200, this thing is a no-go

I’m a commercial electrician and have been wearing these boots everyday for two and a half years. They have been fantastic. I’m shocked they didn’t rate better. Mine have the black soles if that makes any difference. I have been waiting for them to wear out. I have a brand new pair sitting on my shelf. I did clean them occasionally and take a handful of mink oil and rub it on super think, let them sit overnight and wipe off the access the next day. I work outside a lot and they are great and have a composite toes. I’m surprised I didn’t notice the lack of a shank, I’m on a ladder a lot. Thanks for the review, I was hoping you would do these.

I think it seems like they’re a decent boot. Taking care of it the way you have definitely helps - the big problem here isn’t terrible construction, it’s terrible marketing. It would be nice if they would focus on the construction as opposed to the advertising claims.

That’s the difficult part of these videos, you don’t get to see how they hold up long term. I’ve had a pair of Chippewas that looked disappointing when cut in half, but I’ve been in them 40-50 hours a week for 4 years and I’m still happy with them.

I'm also an electrician and have been for about 10 years; I've used Wolverine Durashocks this entire time. Not this particular model - there's another pair that come in black and have a steel toe. On average (because I don't spend any time on leather care) a single pair of these will last me three years before the outsole has no functional tread left and the leather on the toe has so much damage that the steel is almost completely exposed, making it not worth it at all to resole/repair them. On average, this costs me about $60 per year. If you're caring for them like you say you are, I would also suggest having some toe caps applied to mitigate the damage from kicking/dropping things and pay special attention to the tread wear. Other than that, they're quality boots that will definitely serve you well in the long term. On top of that, I've also found that these are extremely comfortable and mitigate foot fatigue to a high degree; ladder work is much more tolerable due to the cushioning the entire sole structure provides. Definitely keep a pair in reserve if you like them so you have a pair to use while you're getting your main pair resoled, but you'll likely enjoy these as long as they continue to make them.

I wore a pair of bates durashocks for a number of years when I worked security. I found they were very comfortable and they did generally hold up for a year or 2 in general duty use. My pair started to fall apart and the company did stand behind the product by sending me the replacement out before I sent the other ones back. That way I didn’t have to wear another pair of boots. Have bought them on and off over the years. At least until I started buying Jim greens

9:53 That boot is all synthetic padding. Look at how thick that insole insert is. Your feet are walking on foam pillows, wrapped in a weatherproof membrane. A cobbler, or you, should be able to carve off & sand down the worn outsole, then glue on a new sole. You could always replace the insole insert as needed. $190 retail. You should be able to buy it for less with coupons and such. A Vibram wedge sole retails for around $40, or around $100 when installed by a cobbler. This boot is good for at least 1 cheap resole. But I wouldn't spend up to $300 for a skilled craftsman to deconstruct the boot and rebuild it with a new welt, midsole, et cetera.

That’s my issue too. Wide feet. I ordered a pair of Whites Perry moc toe in EE and they were too tight. So I traced my foot and sent it into whites and said I needed an F in width. So I ordered the Whites Longliner boot in FF and it has been the best boot. To bad they cost an arm and a leg. I do have a pair of the Thorogood Emperor Toe boot and I loved those boots for a long time. However, those Thorogood boots are only 8in tall. And the Whites are 10in tall. Right on, came here to say the same. When I was watching the Rockrooster teardown I pulled up the Amazon listing... and to my surprise, they had one pair left in my size for $90! Impulse buy. Now having seen them in person, the RRs are definitely more impressive than I'd anticipated-and I'm typically a Thorogood/Red Wing guy. Costing just half of what the Wolverines do ($180/Mens 14 on Amazon today), what Rose Anvil fan *wouldn't* prefer the RRs if forced to choose?

I'm a sneaker (trainer) guy, but last year I bought some £275 Italian dress shoes for a wedding, from an Italian tailor called Romeo, in Richmond, London. The brand is Sergio Duletti. I'm honestly mesmerised by the build quality. I can't even work out how they stifffened the heel; it's uncompressable, but at the same time incredibly thin. The main leather of the shoe is dark blue, and crimped in such a way that makes it look and feel quilted. It's also just 1mm thick, and so soft and pliable. My first wear of them was about 12 hours on the wedding day, and my feet were fine when I took them off. They needed no breaking in. I'd love to see your channel look at some expensive dress shoes, just to get some insight into the build techniques.

Wolverine and it’s brands will always have a spot on Walmart and Boot Barn discount shelves, so they can sleep easy. Have y’all considered releasing leather suspenders to go along with the belts? An interchangeable button, snap clip, or clip end with a sold separately bachelor button set would be amazing. Maybe there can be a wider version with shoulder pads for work suspenders and a slightly slimmer one without shoulder pads for casual suspenders? I don’t know how much work that would be compared to the camera harnesses, but it would be pretty unique for Rose Anvil compared to all the heritage style belt offering popping up on social media right now. Nicks, Hanks, and NB leather have been flooding my Facebook and KZbin about their belts. Just a thought.

I bought a wolverine durashock for around 120 about a decade ago.. It was high at the time, but ended up being more durable than I thought. I got nearly two years out of them and I still have them actually (all beat up now). Working in construction, stomping around on concrete slabs all day and walking on steep roofs. I was surprised how well they just kept going- because they were super comfortable from day one-- so I assumed they would tear up fast. But for 200, that's not happening. At 100 to 120, competing with the Rockroosters-- that's where they should be. 200 is crazy for these.. and I think they are just leaning on that 'moc toe" to get the sale.

I bought these 2 years ago. Pros: super comfy soles to wear long term, used them in a wear house setting and had plenty of opportunity to beat them up and they hold up, looks good, and the waterproofing did work for me during Chicago winters. Cons: I got the safety toe version for work and the shape of the safety cap ended up digging into the side of my toe and killing the nerve for several months. I stopped wearing them for that reason and after months the feeling in my toe returned to normal. If it weren’t for this issue I would give it a 10 but because of this issue I’d say 7.5

Thanks for the breakdown Weston! Ever since I wore through a pair of terribly constructed Calvin Klein dress shoes in high school that I had to wear every day and replaced them with leather shoes, I’ve been obsessed with finding quality boots and shoes that can stand up to at least daily wear and some that can take a punishing. I bought a pair of gore-Tex lined Danner Marine Expeditionary Boots as a hiking/work boot when I was working in rocky Southern California canyons back in 2020 (when they cost $250 brand new) and they’ve held up really well. I love finding smaller brands that make work or casual boots that are high quality and don’t sacrifice construction or materials for profit like almost every single major brand. I’d really like to see you cut open boots from Parkhurst and Oak Street boot makers (to name a few) so we can see quality in more casual to dressy boots from smaller brands. Can’t wait for the next series!

@@johnnybarbar7435 this isn’t fully true. It will also release water vapor if the outside is colder than the inside. The heat will push the water vapor through. A bit late but as a inexpensive boot Jcrew always has sales. Even at full price you are able to get a Alden indy clone for half price at 300. I’d like to suggest Bordon from Colombia, parkhurst, Truman, caswell boot makers, and BLKBRD

I had a pair of boots for riding my motorcycle 40 years ago. In those days most bikes were strictly kick-start only, and the shank on my kick-start foot snapped and made the boots unserviceable.

Wolverine was the first work boots I ever got. When they stayed getting sold in Walmart (05-06?) The quality definitely went down. I tried several random brand and have settled on redwing for my everyday work boots. On a side note here is my plug again for a cheap hiking boot. Ridgemont has gone beyond my expectations for the price

I haven't worn these exact boots, but have worn wolverine work boots and they do not last at all. You get hot spots and have no real support when standing on a ladder. I had a coworker tell me once you go Redwing you never go back and that has been true for me. Buying at least 15 Redwings over the years I can say treat your feet right, It is the most used part of the body . Redwing is pretty local for all to ,still brick and mortar.

Got a pair of Wolverine Durashocks in 1999, and they held up good for 5 years until the air cushion in one heel ruptured. They were 6 inch safety toe and the outsole may have even been vibram. Probably would be about $250 today, but haven't seen anything like that for a while.

I was impressed with my bates boot, lasting over 7 years, I didn't know they were made by Wolverine. I did know that they owned Saucony though which kind of look like nock off of asics, well some of them do any way. The problem I have had with merrell is the arch support goes to far back and under the corder of the heal. Thankfully the bates do not have that issue. Also the sole on those bates was hardly warn it was the upper that fell apart. The Plastic pealed off and it looked horrible.

Hey Rose! I love your reviews, but something i would love to see in your reviews is measurements taken and a review on how it feels to wear the boots as you often try them on. I would love this especially because for me I love boots that has space for my toes whit no squish and it’s not always obvious looking at a boot if it has that, I like a good heritage boot whit a strong heal whit an arch support but prefer the toes to be more on the flexible side, to sum it up I am very picky on how a boot feels on my feet, and what I can do whit my feat while I have them on, so I would love to hear more about that in your videos cause it is so important when you buy an expensive pair of boots.

I use these boots at my job as a bartender. Bartending is so destructive on shoes. It’s hard to buy quality stuff because even the extremely well built stuff gets ruined. I’ve found these to be a great option. They’re insanely comfortable right out of the box, and they’re waterproof enough to keep my feet dry behind the bar. I probably wouldn’t go dig trenches in them, but they’re great for what I need them to do.

The issue with Rockroosters I have is width. Every one they sell is xtra wide. Unfortunately this causes me no end of trouble with shoes cause my foot flops around in there and within a year even if not worn out the boot becomes unwearable cause the heel counter blows out. Additionally I blow through laces for the same reason, I can’t cinch them tight enough for comfort. With B.A. Mason going out of business it’s going to make B width boots a Royal PITA to find. Now I’ll admit Mason went downhill getting rid of the heavier rubber v pattern outsole ( was able to secure a pair of those with a lot of luck and I’ll be trying to score another pair too). Guess I’ll have to resort to custom stuff in the future as the cheaper brands don’t realize not all of us have big wide feet

I've been an electrician for 10 years. In that time, I've been using Wolverine Durashocks exclusively on the job; they're incredibly comfortable for me when doing ladder work and have stood up to whatever i throw at them. Due to deterioration from the job itself, each pair of these has lasted me about 3 years on average. I opt to replace them outright as opposed to repair/resole, so this costs me roughly $150 every three years for work footwear. I'm not going to argue with the review here, but I figured I'd share the practical side of the product as opposed to a formal review. Do with this information what you will.

You should break them down into work trades. Say inside warehouse/ on concrete jobs division and then an outside division too. Most won't want an indestructible logger type boot to prance around the warehouse all day, and most loggers don't want ultra plush super squishy cute boots 😂

I don't know how I missed this video, but thanks for making it. I have a pair of these in black with the black sole and was curious how they'd stack up to other and what you'd think of them. I bought them because the wolverine durashocks i had back in '97 had one of the best oil resistant soles i could walk on oil coated rippled sheet metal used in roofing freestall barns without slipping and falling on my ass like everyone else was, also they were super comfortable. I've had my i90's for about 4 or 5 years, I don't wear them daily but when I wear them its all day, they are my dedicated boots for riding motorcycles. Only thing I've had happen with them is the moc toe has come a bit undone and worn through from where my shifter hits and the sole on the edge has worn pretty good from dragging it on asphalt from the aggressive lean angle when i ride on winding roads and the inside heel fabric has worn pretty good like all my sneakers do but surprisingly I didn't notice for quite awhile and it in no way has affected the fit or feel. Again thanks for doing the video, I'll buy them again because they fit my needs and they have a few things I prefer in my boots, but your video gave me some new insight. Keep doin what you do man.
