I'm not arguing about the validity of these tips because they might make some difference. As a 67 year old man who never got the big arms despite decades of weight training, I'm convinced it's mostly in the genes. I've known men with big arms and giant calves who never did any weight training, while mine never grew, or at least not much. That's just my 2 cents.

I’m 64 and I lift but I still use the old nautilus method. 2 seconds up then 4 seconds down with the squeeze at the top. I still use what we called negative workouts too but I don’t do them like I did when I was younger.

None of this is specific to "over 40". Train smart for life, young or old. I hate videos that are clickbait with "over 40" when the reality is to train smarter regardless of age.

These are basic biceps training principles and have no particular relevance to those over 40. For us older lifters what's important is exercise selection, intensity, frequency of training, and sufficient rest. It's in these areas that our needs are distinguished from those of the under-40s.

I do both, barbell and dumbell. I start with heavy barbell perform 6 reps full range motion and follow with light weight dumbell doing drop set. Total 3 sets of each. Then I can really feel the burnt in my biceps. I love this combo. It's works well for me.

I also was doing a semi heavy barbell of what I can handle and then used a much lighter dumbbell as well as a light broken bar curl. I haven't done this for a long time, though. I did it at home before joining a gym.

Thanks. Simple to remember and makes a lot of sense. I'm in my 70s, vegan, overall good health. Need to build more muscle to stop age-related muscle loss (Sarcopenia). Finally not having much trouble doing around 20 - 30 push-ups; slowly with good form. But struggling to get back some pull-up ability. I'm working on slowly lowering myself from the top position to full (bottom) extension. Descent time has gone from 3 seconds about 4 weeks ago to 9-10 seconds recently. I'm guessing stronger biceps might also eventually help with chin-ups. Thanks again.

What are you eating for protein?
@oldbrassman2157
@oldbrassman2157 Жыл бұрын
@@boostedmaniac Thanks for getting back. Beans, tons of Broccoli (5-6 times weekly), a variety of Nuts & Nut butter, Chickpeas. No meat... but occasional fish (Haddock). Also a peas/mushroom mix. I think I'm OK on protein and fiber (flaxseed). Just don't want to waste time on doing the wrong exercises (to get pull-ups going); or doing them incorrectly.

Do you recommend using lower weight to start Gary❓️ I guess what I'm asking is, I've been at it for over a year now, I'm 57 and biceps are the one group I work on the least because I figure they're used in most other exercises, one way or another. You're always talking about mind, muscle connection, so I should start with a lower weight, and do the 2 second rule, that you always recommend❓️ As always ☮️ from 🇨🇦 my friend

If any one of you going to gym long enough you will see all kinds crazy ass people doing silly things. One of them is no doubt that there are people trying to be Mr tough guy or something. I have seen people swing the big heavy dumbell while doing the biceps curl. I also have seen guys trying to bench press 315bls and lift up the weight and come down only 3 inches. Look absolutely ridiculous. If I have to guess I bet he can't even 225bls properly. Same go with doing squat. A guy try to squat 315bls and yet he come down maybe 10 inches.

Great breakdown sir, I know I've been doing them right.!👍 But, there are so many that are doing not only biceps wrong, but triceps, back, chest, shoulders, legs, etc.. Especially the young people. I've been working out for 25 years. So when I'm in the gym I try to help these young people, they can either listen or not. But some do. Including some adults as well. You're right, if people don't do the exercises right, they won't see results..💪 Plus you get a lot of people trying to act macho putting on a lot of weight. Then their form is dead wrong, also injury is right around the corner.. I just subscribed to your channel cuz of your knowledge. We all know knowledge is key.! Thank You for your videos. God speed.!! 🙏👍💪
